Unhappy Help ................. Pleaz !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As you may or may not know ................................. I am having real problems with my computer at home

It is not starting up with Windows 98.

Instead I am getting the message:

"Windows Protection Error"

Does anyone know what this means & how I can get past it ????

It then comes up with a bright orange message saying:

IT IS NOW SAFE TO TURN OFF YOUR COMPUTER.

It will then direct you into safe mode.

In safe mode we have run:

Thorough disk scan = No errors found
AVG = No viruses found

NOW we are stuck as what to do next.

ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi FA,
is W98 the operating system on your PC or do you have another?
If not try to upgrade in save mode to W98se or if the memory is sufficiant put on XP.

Thanks

We do not have the disk - as the shop where we brought it from has it.

I have been on Microsoft.com & into troubleshooting - so fingers crossed it may help

If not its back to the shop - but when - who knows

Am not trying to bu funny here but have you tried wrapping the pc in a condom.
That will be a sfer mode to start from and protect it from certain users

Wise decision FA - computer equivalent of calling the AA I knew female logic would win through in the end!

FA, i've had the same error once. Very strange. Didn't really know what to do with it, and the computershop only makes it worse... Then it came out that my HD had a crash... damn.. so, then i've bought a new computer.

Really don't know much about errors in windows... but do know that Windows 98 has a lot problems you can't solve!

Upgrade to SE, should sort out the 98 bugs. 98 SE is the most stable Windows OS.

Gerry you are not supposed to make water bombs with them - especially if you are dragging it around - it will burst - no wonder it's raining up there
