I love performing and recording Meat Loaf / Jim Steinman songs. I have great fun working on backing tracks etc. It is a lot of work but I do my best. Reading these rules and thinking how I can work around them is giving me a headache though. I much rather just post my stuff on my website. Liked to do an orchestral version of For Crying out loud next. We'll see.

That's why I suggested less rules and more fun...with so many rules, I do agree...it becomes a chore...I would just give some kind of tentative deadline...otherwise this will go on forever...and then see what happens with submissions...

That works for me too...although I now worry about my entry...LOL...

Interesting you should say that. I always thought it would be ace to take a really cool song (like I'm Gonna Love Her For Both Of Us) and then make an album of just that song produced in various different styles (eg rock, disco, gospel, country, "Il Divo" etc!)

In fact, the only thing that stopped me doing it was a lack of talent, ambition, equipment, and patience.

I agree it shouldn't be made to be a competition

...I agree it should be fun and relaxed

...I agree more than one version of the same track should be permitted (indeed this is the case on NBAMN II at least - one of the Steinman Fan appreciation albums)

...however, I think decent versions of tracks should definately be allowed rather than preferring people 'making an ass of themselves' (personally I'd rather listen to a decent album than one of wailing cats, I can sing to myself in the car if I want that effect) BUT do agree that enthusiasm and dedication counts for a lot and it shouldn't be treated like a competition.

Why not see how many people wish to contribute before making a decision how many tracks to include?

There are some people on this forum I KNOW can sing and would love to hear their contributions just as much as those who are doing it purely from a fan point of view. Not all of the contributions on the NBAMN albums are pitch perfect, but all are good to listen to.

And I believe a good mix of known and lesser known tracks is a good idea - whilst NBAMN II has well known tracks such as Total Eclipse of the Heart, Paradise amongst others, it's also the only copy I have managed to lay my hands on, of "What Part Of My Body Hurts The Most" - a song I really adore...so sometimes lesser known songs are good mixed in with the ones you know and sing along to (not that I'll be singing along to Total Eclipse of the Heart though...I like my windows intact ).

Oh, and I'm not so keen on the no leaks rule - why can't we let other friends on the forum listen to our tracks and offer advice or opinions before submitting?

Well that's just my thoughts...I'm only sorry and disappointed in a way that I don't have the singing voice to contribute my own track, which is why I'd love to get involved in some other way if I can.

It's a great idea isn't it Helen? Both to have tracks by the various people on here that we know can really sing and then some.... as well as the more respectable efforts from those of us who want to contribute just because we love the man and his music.
I really like the idea of having various versions of the same song if they are all good versions. Also, for some people choice of songs will be pretty limited due to not having Meat's wonderful multi scale leaping operatic vocal ability.

Yes i think it is a great idea and i would love to hear people's attempt's good or not so good. You could start a thread even and let people post there versions on there and after the deadline we could all vote?
Could be a good way of working it.

Probably because 6 versions of Paradise on one CD where only 14 songs are going to be on it doesn't sound like a fun CD to me. That said, why can't ALL the songs and their different variations be uploaded somewhere for anyone to download?

if we only have about 28 submissions anyway you could just make it a double cd.
and try to encourage people to stay away from the more well known unless they really must. otherwise it's like when you have a party where everyone contributes to the buffet and you end up with 8 million crisps and biscuits and no butties!
