Exclamation Meat Loaf Helps Brittish Tennis Star Win!

Quote:
WATCHING JAMIE WIN WAS PROUDEST MOMENT OF MY LIFE
By Kevin Turner

TENNIS ace Andy Murray yesterday spoke of his pride as he and his brother flew the flag for Scotland with a stunning double win in America.

Andy, 19, successfully defended his SAP Open title in San Jose, California, wrapping himself up in a Lion Rampant flag as he lifted the trophy.

And just hours later, brother Jamie, 21, won the men's doubles trophy at the same tournament with his partner Eric Butorac.

Andy admitted he cried tears of joy as his big brother celebrated his first success on the tennis circuit.

He said: "It was the proudest day of my life - not anything to do with me winning but watching my brother win his first tournament was amazing.

"I couldn't watch from five-all in the second set and I had to go into the locker room and check the score on the TV.

"When they won, I'd be lying if I said there weren't a few tears. I was straight on the phone to my mum, as I couldn't believe it.

"It was 10 times more nerve-racking watching him than playing, that's for sure."

Andy battled back from a set down to beat big-serving 6ft 10in Croat Ivo Karlovic to take the men's singles t rophy - and the £33,770 prize.

After the match, he thanked rocker Meatloaf for inspiration. The tennis ace listens to his iPod to psych himself up for matches - and recently ditched rap for rock.

Andy said: "I have been listening to a bit of Meatloaf. A few of my friends find it a little bit sad but I like it. Bat Out Of Hell is a quality song."

Andy retained 13th place in the world rankings following his San Jose win - with a good chance of reaching the world's top 10 in the weeks to come.

Jamie and his American partner, Eric Butorac, enjoyed a straight-sets win against fourth seeds Rainer Schuettler and Chris Haggard.

It made the Murrays the first brothers to win singles and doubles titles in the same tourney since Emilio and Javier Sanchez at Kitzbuhl, Austria, in 1989.

The win increases Jamie's chances of joining his brother in the Great Britain Davis Cup squad to play Holland in April.

Yesterday. Andy became 6-4 favourite to be Sports Personality of the Year 2007.

He's right Bat out of hell is a quality song...still don't understand why they have to spell Meat Loaf as one word.

I thought tennis was meant to be played with a racket, not a Bat

Although playedtoo loud, the umpire might complain of all the racket going on

I was gonna post this story, I see someone beat me to it!
Saw it in the Daily Mail, and although they managed to spell "Meat Loaf" right, the reporter then said something about the elation of the day making him make such a confession
I see Murray's coach, Brad Gilbert, is influencing him for the better not just in the tennis but in the music tastes! Was pretty chuffed to see the article, though, I follow the tennis, especially Andy Murray.
And, congratulations to him on the title second year in a row!

It would actually be a good move on Meat's part to send the guy two tickets to a concert.

That is something that would make the papers.

As long as it doesn't clash with Wimbledon!
Otherwise it may look like some sort of conspiracy to get Andy Murray out of the way so Roddick has a slightly better chance! Now, if only they could get that genuis Federer out of the way, too........
You never know, Brad Gilbert might already have the two of them lined up to go to a concert.

It'll have to be a while t-shirt, though, or it might not be allowed for breach of dress code! The other grand slams aren't too fussed, but Wimbledon is the biggest one.
Although if Andrew Castle can walk out on court in a leather jacket, I don't see how they could complain about a Bat III t-shirt!

I have tickets for Wimbledon this year. They are for centre court on the first day so I doubt it will be for Andy's match.

Am green with envy! hopefully it won't rain that day, you know what Wimbledon does to the English weather! You never know, you might get to see him play if he's in that half of the draw:)
I will get to Wimbledon one day! Me and Mam will go and I'll get one of those oversized tennis balls and get as many autographs as I can!

Getting tickets is a lottery each year (unless you're very well connected - which I ain't!!).

You apply in August and your application goes into a ticket draw. If you're lucky you get a letter offering you the tickets and then in February you get your allocation and have to cough up the dough.

This is my first attempt and I got lucky. A guy at work tried for years without success until last year. Mind you I would hate to have sat next to him! He's harmless, but an old batchelor who lives on his own so needs to talk to you every time you pass. I re-route myself daily!!

I used to work with a woman who was an avid Wimbledon fan, and every year, she'd go round the office getting people to write their name and address on an envelope for her to send off, on the understanding that any ticket wins that came back would be hers... She did quite well out of it too!

Well, I may not be going to Wimbledon in the strawberries and cream, most prestigious tennis tournament in the world sense, but I am going to Wimbledon in the Davis Cup GB v Croatia sense! Me and Mam just booked three day tickets!!!! Am rather excited, but hope it doesn't clash with important dates about going back to university! Should be Ok though, it's the day after Davis Cup finishes that I go back
My brother's going to first day of Wimbledon through work, a cause of much jealousy from Mam, so we're going to Davis. This means a player I don't like won't be there, and a player I do like will be there!
Anyway, let's hope Andy and everyone else I want to see play there will be fit and well

Had a really good time at the Davis Cup tie the other weekend! Crowds were very noisy and funny, it didn't rain, and we won! Was a little miffed they didn't play a Meat song, didn't really expect them to, but it would have been funny to have the peace and tranquility of SW19 shattered by Bat!
Saw Andy Murray and Tim Henman play twice, and Jamie Murray in the doubles with Henman. Jamie Baker was put on for the last match when the tie was won.
Got some quite good photos, and we had good seats so our heads weren't flicking back and forwards with every hit of the ball. Lots of young people and children there, and lots of flags. The papers said it was more like last night of the proms than a tennis match, I was thinking more along the lines of the Coliseum in its heyday
Despite a couple of glitches like me forgetting our Oyster cards and having to stay in three hotels over three nights we really enjoyed it. I will never forget the roar that greeted Jamie Murray when he led the GB team out.

Oh, and Andy smiled!

Let's all wish Andy the best of luck tonight when he plays his first Grand Slam semi-final in New York! That is, if it will be played tonight: apparently there's a storm heading for the Big Apple...
Anyway, whenever it is, come on, Andy! You can beat that annoying, grunting, time-wasting, unsporting Spanish bloke!
