I was wondering what people thought of this idea. Do you think that Meat should try going slightly heavier these days to try to get in with a younger audience? I dont mean heavier as in Korn style or Ozzy style but maybe Guns N' Roses type cause i listen to some of their songs and think Meat would sound great on this.
So read the bottom. Dick. |

Well i love Meat's music i'm just thinking going slightly heavier because all of my friends would say Meat isn't popular because he is too soppy. And i think if went G N' R style of Chilli Peppers for 1 album he could prove to the world that he is still a Metaler and can sing any song. (Of course we all know that he is very capable of this, but for some reason the rest of the world doesn't realise.)

It's a funny thing that Meat used to be classed as heavy metal and now he's classed as rock or rock & roll. I think it's because Meat was one of the first metal artists. Then one guy goes that little bit louder and faster, then the next guy goes louder and faster than him.Now after 25 years of people going louder and faster, original metal seems very tame by comparison I think metal has gone to far. It's a parody of what it used to be.That's why Meat is not classed as metal any more. At the end of the day Dick,as long as you like what Meat is doing, you don't have to listen to your friends. They're the fools for not listening |

Meat is rated as pop in some dutch CD stores. I hate it when I see that.
But I think you're right, Flying Mouse. |

I think that Meat is unique and always has been. There will always be a section of the market that you don't appeal to, but to copy other people to get this appeal is everything that is wrong with pop music these days. Meat has been excellent at what he does for 26 years now, its definitely not time to change.

steinbat,
I Couldnt Have Said It Better Myself, meat has been doin things his own way and in his own style for so long, so why should he change to fit in with what is ment to be "heavy metal"?? |

GARRETT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Did you read Flying Mouse's remark? Do you remember? We had got a discussion! But I'd dispute with Flying Mouse! Meat wasn't one of the first metal artist. HE WAS THE FIRST! Metal and Punk singer! And if they put his CD to the pop section... |

I agree completely with 'White of High', meat dont change at all, he should do his own style, its his music.
I like his music because, i like songs with moe than one chord, and melodies with more than one note. 'Dont worry if you dont like life its only tempory' |

Not sure I agree with White of High on Meat as the first Metal and Punk singer, unless your tongue is firmly in your cheek...
Ever heard of Black Sabbath? The Ramones? The Sex Pistols? When Black Sabbath were making metal albums in 1970, Meat was doing musicals and R'n'B. The Craig David of the 70's. You cannot categorise Meat Loaf, he is such a unique and brilliant artist in his own right, he defies pigeon holing! |

Meat's music could never be described as pop, as pop music means nothing. It's definately under rock, its up to the listener to decide how "heavy" it is.

Well, back to the origin of this thread...IMO this tour will have a "heavier" edge to it, due to the addition of Paul Crook as lead guitarist. If you saw him doing BOOH at the NBA deal you will know what I mean. He freakin ROCKED, best motorcycle bit I think I've ever heard.

But then music genres are a funny thing aren't they, as The Flying Mouse said earlier heavy metal isn't really heavy metal anymore, older NWOBHM bands are now classed by some as rock/hard rock or in the case of Iron Maiden prog rock. Metal (except extreme metal) and Punk has in many respects lost it's ability to shock and almost sounds quaint, even Marilyn Manson (as the mainstream embraces him) is losing his edge a little.
Desensitisation leads to apathy and complacency - grrr |

Meat loaf is a niche market that almost everyone can relate to.
Breaks a few rules of logic to say that, but everyone who is willing to listen will find a Meat Loaf song they really really like, this cannot be said about many artists. Whether its ya granny or ya nephew, whether is Bat Out Of Hell, Left In The Dark or I'd Do Anything For Love.... ALL (not most) will find one song (to rule them all... *cough* sorry,) that they love, if they are willing to listen to them (and not just hear them!). Big heavy type conversation really for this time in the morning, but ahhh well, can't be bothered deleting it now so gonna hit the submit butt.... |
