Over here in the states, the rules on personal, non-professional cameras have gotten less restrictive because everyone has camera phones. I work at an arena here and I cannot remember the last show we had that absolutely prohibited cameras. I have not seen the same trend in video cameras though. Where I work, if I catch someone video-taping, I am required to stop them (even the new cameras that do both still and video -like mine).

That may or may not be the norm for every venue though.

Generally, camera's are ok. Flashes are frowned upon in some places though - and there is some debate whether they are actually useful anyway - all my best pictures were without flash. :P

If you were wondering about specific venues, ie Royal Albert Hall, on their website under 'Etiquette' it says:

Cameras, video equipment and tape recorders are not permitted.

Please ensure all pagers and mobile phones are switched off before entering the auditorium.

Not that anyone would actually hear their mobile phone ringing for this concert!!

I guess we'll all have to rely on good old fashioned 'memories'.... remember those?!!

Those rules apply for all the venues, it's for copyright purpose's but the only places I've actually seen them enforced were at the Hammersmith Apollo, losely and Wembley Pavillion where they took my camera for the Alice Cooper concert. Don't want to jinx it though so I won't add any more.

My little sister has got a ditigal camera that takes audio and video. She has used it to take videos of Brad Paisley and Dirk Bentley as far as I know they are not prohibtied here in Michigan.

I think they tell you to switch off mobiles as if they ring, they can inbterfirer with the PA System and all the equipment. It is possible. You start getting feeback.

In my experience I'd say it depends where you go, as it seems to be a different rule everywhere!

Newcastle Arena has massive signs saying "No cameras or recording equipment" but I've never had my bag checked or my camera taken - the only thing they've ever said to me was no to lean over the barrier where i was, but that was a health and safety issue.

In the times I've been to the RAH they've not been the kind of events that you'd take pics of really so I'm not sure on this one - to be honest I tend not to take a camera as I spend so much time playing with it I miss the show!

All the venues have those rules if you read the back of the tickets, some just make a point of enforcing them, others don't.

Personally I've been to the RAH a few times, and I've never been checked for a camera nor when I took a picture with flash did I have it taken but if you're sitting in a seat where they can find you easily (boxes or the front row on the arena floor or even the top part where they watch you) I would use a flash just to be sure.

Also side note, if you're up high but seated, I don't know if the RAH has fixed this yet but if you're a little bit to the right. I hope if it rains you don't have your camera with you as there was a slight leak in the roof.

I just hope people at least have their mobiles on silent at the concert!

oh, how do I know what you mean! I have a sneaky suspicion that it was me that Meat pointed and swore at to get up off my 'kin backside and dance, at the Leeds Castle concert last year. I was the only one for several rows (at least) who was sitting down fiddling with my camera!

I must have watched most of the Liverpool concert last year through the screen on digital camera! Not the same watching him through a comparatively tiny screen!...Although I could zoom and get good closeups...

Exactly - I was next to Alex and I was really aware that he was seeing the show via his camera!

To be honest, I'm more interested in the pics of everyone before and after the show, Meat pics will be all over the net but the ones with friends are the priceless ones!
