Default Meat Loaf or Jim Covers or Rarities

Hey all

Many of Jim's songs and Meat's songs have been covered by other artists. For example, Bonnie Tyler did a great version of Making Love and an appalling version of 2 out of 3.

I love checking out new or rare versions of our favourite songs, so I thought I'd start this thread to list em all!

Post any songs you know of by Jim or Meat that have been rerecorded (and by who) or are really rare, and we'll all be able to listen to great (hopefully) new versions of great songs (though most will be vastly inferior to the originals, of course )!

Check out http://www.neverlandhotel.dk/tracklist.php for covers of Steinman songs. Although it's not complete by any stretch of the imagination, it's a great place to start.

What a stupid statement to wish death on someone.

Not raelly a cover because it was already released in 2001 and Meat´s version in 2003, but it may be the right place to mention:
Tear me down by Hedwig
IMO the most stupid song i´ve ever heard
"I´m the new Berlin Wall, try to tear me down!"

Within the context of the musical it came from, it seems to make perfect sense to me, and I haven't even seen the damn thing.

I love Hedwig And The Angry Inch, Tear Me Down is a totally awesome song and Meat does a fantrastic cover but I can understand that if you have no idea of the story and your listening to the lyrics without the visual it sounds odd to say the least, here is the story I wrote a few years back;

SYNOPSIS

Hedwig is shadowed by Tommy who's stolen her songs and claiming their his, she follows him around in cafés and restaurants, and is known as an internationally ignored song stylist down on her luck.

STORY

Born in communist East Berlin as Hansel Schmit, times were hard growing up and in 1961 The Berlin Wall went up and his search for love on his side of the wall grew futile. One day Hansel was sunning himself on a broken peice of church right next to the divide when an American G.I Luthor Robinson, mistakes him for a girl, Hansel feeling empowered of his new found power, took the gummi bears he was offered and the taste of power was so strong that he ran back home, leaving in his wake a trail of rainbow carniage. The next day Hansel discovered a path of sweets back to the old bomb crater and lying on top of the broken up church; Was a giant sized Sugar daddy named Luthor!

Hansel soon realises that to be free from the East he`ll have to marry Luthor only, he`s brought the news that, to leave one must give up a little part of one-self, shocked he turns to his mother for support and is even more stunned when she agrees to it so reluctantly he`s taken to the hospital and his sex change operation didn't go to plan and it left her with an angry inch. She marrys Luthor Robinson and changes her name to, Hedwig Robinson then after the marriage fails she's once again left alone. Her next big love in her life is Tommy Speck as he was known then and she had always found him, 'Incredibly....Hot!' However the two got together and they played together and they were both very happy. Hedwig even thought up his name, Tommy Genosis. She basically told him everything he knows. Then he finds out she has this inch and he's scared off and keeps his distance and then again Hedwig is down in love.

Tommy becomes this massive superstar with songs that Hedwig has written and taking all the credit, claiming their his. She's naturally not pleased with that and shadows him around as an internationally ignored song stylist, playing in restaurants and cafes next door to Tommy`s gigs. She then marry's Yitzack who stands by her though he feels very left out and unfairly treated and is over joyed when he gets a part in the play at Paris. Hedwig however has other plans and being sick of men leaving her tears up his passport.

It's a fantastic play/movie and all credit where it's due, the beautiful lyrics are written by STEPHEN TRASK and JOHN CAMERON MITCHELL as he put alot of effort writting, performing and creating Hedwig and made it into a brill movie.

The songs include: Tear Me Down

Origins Of Love

Sugar Daddy

Angry Inch

Wig In A Box

Wicked Little Town (Hedwig version)

Hedwigs Lament

Exquisit Corpse

Wicked Little Town (Tommy Genosis version)

Midnight Radio

End Credits: Origin Of Love/Wig In A Box

I am very chuffed with that! LOL Anyway hopefully you won't think it so crazy now, I hope.

Barry Manilow didn't do that bad of a job on Read'em and Weep Yeah it wasn't fantastic, but it wasn't that bad. Angela Carnegie doesn't do a bad job of ReaW

Left In The Dark was shocking by Babs and the only version of the song I can listen to without cringing is by Cecilia Vennersten - Lämnad I Mörkret ( I believe it's Finnish)

Hmmm...
Another thing...

Turn The Beat Around by Gloria Estefan is a plagium from Rebel Without The Clue. I think Gloria's version is better.
Wenn Liebe in Dir ist from Tanz is a plagium too... it's originally a David Bowie song. Jim is not really true. :)

Devil With The Blue Dress On and
I Saw Her Standing There

Absolutely stunning

It was from 1987 if you were wondering
