Meat says on the live with MSO DVD, that TOOTÄB became popular because a DJ has played it everytime in his show, because his name was included in the lyrics.
His name was Sandy Beach. But what do You think, mean the lyrics of that part of the song? You´ll never find Your gold on a sandy beach,... Why should anybody search for gold on a beach? The song (for those, who not know) is about a man, who leaves a girl, because he feels that he doesn´t love her (maybe anymore). Just interpret it a little bit! R. |

You'll never drill for oil on a city street I know you're looking for a ruby in a mountain of rocks but there ain't no Coupe de Ville hiding at the bottom of a Cracker Jack box None of these things can be found in the ways mentioned above. It's the boy's way of saying that his heart is not in the relationship and that the girl has to stop looking for love where it doesn't exist. He wants her, he needs her but he can never love her. Hope this helps. Diane |

Have to agree Paul. The whole song and the way Meat performs it are so awesome. It's a wonderfully clever example of how Jim can twist an everyday cliche.
Jim claims he got the idea from the Elvis Presley song I Want You, I Need You, I Love You. Diane |

I love those people who play it as their bridal waltz.
Have they ever actually listened to it? |

For me this is one of Meats best songs.
It is just so powerful and though so very sad. Another song that works in the same way is Man of Steel from CHSIB. It is awesome, how much emotino Meat can put in his song, although they are so different. Like this one and for example LIAL(AIWMMB) (I like such abbreviations R. |

Two out of Three,
from the powerhouse vocals, tear stained passion and intense music arrangements and sounds, truely a very nice song... the way Diane put it is always how I thought too. Its spot on A+ Steinlyrics |

I think what Diane said is a little bit too hard.
Like, hey girl, i dont love you and never have or will! You really thought i whould do anything for Love? ah, you´re funny! I think You whould even probably drill for oil on a city street! Ha, ha, ha!!! I think wat lotus said is nearer, it says that he WANTS to love her... but he can´t. R. |

But-there ain't no way I'm EVER gonna love you.
I'll never be able to give you something, something that I just haven't got. Seems clear to me. |

Ha cant but hie wishes so very much that he could. I think that is clear because of the power with Meat sings this lines. He is angry about him self because he wants to feel Love and Peace to all of You! R. |

He's telling her not to be sad. To me he's being brutally honest and telling her he can never love her because he's always been in love with another girl, but she never loved him back. It's about unrequited love. It's all in the lyrics:
"There's only one girl I will ever love And that was so many years ago And though I know I'll never get her out of my heart She never loved me back Ooh I know" Diane |

As for the original question about "Sandy Beach"... yes he was a DJ, who "would not" play Meat & Jim's type of music, therefore Jim wrote him into TOOTAB, with the line "You'll never find your gold on a sandy beach", meaning with DJ's like him, singers like Meat would never get air play, not make money, therefore not find "gold". Meat explains this in an old interview somewhere, after BOOH becomes a mega hit. Sometime around 1979 - 80. J. |

I dont wanna bug, but i have to defend my opinion
With the lines about the ohter girl, i think he just wants to say to her (and to the audience) that he knows how it feels to be left by someone who you are loving. And it shows him from anohter side. He is not just that bad guy, who cant love, he has been hurt once upon a time, and he still feels the pain. Sure, he is brutally honest, but, like I said, he is very said about that. And he WANTS to be honest to her, because he had been hurt and it was hard for him, but know he knows, that its better to be left than to hang on a pretended love that doesnt exist. And so he knows that he has to teach the girl this lection that he had so hardly and painful had learned. But he knows that it is better, though it is hard, for both of them. You dont just have to read the lyrics, you have to listen to the music, too, and thw way Meat interprets it with his singing. Does someone has another oppinion beside these both? Greetings R. PS: Thanks for the Sandy Beach-Gold Information, do you got more such hidden messages? |

There's a fantastic irony to this song. It's a prime example of the clever twist in the tale which Steinman is such a master of. The music cons everyone into thinking they are listening to a beautiful love song when in fact the lyrics are unveiling the break-up of the relationship. It's the reason Meat has been so amused for years that couples choose this song for their wedding dance.
"There ain't no way I'm ever gonna love you" sounds very final to me! Diane |

i think its funny: after reverand married them:
Will you love her forever and... And at this moment comes from the speaker There aint no way im ever gonna love you, now dont be sad... I could understand everyone who whould run as fast as he/she can out of church and never come back! There are many songs in this way for example: Bye bye love (at the moment i dont know who sings) the music is very happy and lucky (just typical 60s Sound like Beatles or Ohio Express did) but the lyrics are about a broken relationship, if the lyrics were a little more deep they could be made by Jim: There goes my baby with someone new, she sure looks happy, I sure am blue. But there´s a reason that I´m so free my lovin´baby, is through with me. Bye Bye love Bye Bye Happiness Hello emptiness I think i´m gonna cry Bye Bye my Love Bye Bye |

A lot of people play the Police "Every breathe you take" at weddings. Presumably they don;t know it's about a guy stalking his ex after a messy divorce.

Sorry Radiomaster if you thought I discounting your opinion - I wasn't, I was was just putting mine across. I have said elsewhere how everyone can interpret songs to their own thoughts. It seems Diane and I are on the same page but the beauty of Steinman songs (and other penned Meat Loaf songs) is there mulitplicity(if it's a word).
