Default Favourite Lyric

Does anyone have one favourite 'line' from a Meat Loaf song? Is there one line that maybe means something to you, or takes you to a different place?

Personally I love the line "Like a sinner before the gates of heaven I'll come crawling on back to you" which I think is very powerful.

Also, I love lots of the lines from Everything Louder Than Everything Else, a song which I think is lyrically superb, especially: "If you don't worry about the future, sooner or later it's the past" and "There's a party raging somewhere in the world" amongst many others.

I think that the second verse of 'Objects' is the best piece of song writing I've ever heard. I think those lyrics are so powerful.

Also, once I heard what the character in FCOL is singing about I was completely blown away by those lyrics too. Especially the last part of the song, "For taking in the rain..." and so on.

I have a couple..
"The angels had guitars even before they had wings" is a favourite, I love the idea of the angels in Heaven rocking out even before they'd developed into what we know them to be....

"You're never alone 'cause you cna put on the 'phones and let the durmmer tell your heart what to do" - because it's true.

My fav Meat Loaf lyric...

DIST... "I want to take you in the backseat now, and slowly drive you home", has to be one of the most seductive lyrics ever penned.

Another wonderful Meat loaf lyric and one of my favs...

is from Where Angels Sing... "where moneys not the power king, and a man can be most anything". Speaks to what's NOT important in the next world. A powerful lyric.

Pretty much all of Rock'n'Roll Dreams, but most especially the first two lines - "You can't run away forever, but there's nothing wrong with getting a good head start...."

There are so many great lyrics that Jim's wrote.
My first has to be "The beat is yours forever, the beat is always true" Another great line is from Good Girls Go to Heaven "the seconds go on forever but the third and the fourth ones are even better" which I think is a great play on words. And how can anyone not grin at "my faded Levi's are bursting apart" Bless the World for Jim eh?!! Life wouldn't be the same without him

hmmm this is hard to narrow down.........
'I don't need no gold watch in 50 years, baby lets me golden today!'
'You're never alone cos you can put on the phones and let the drummer tell your heart what to do.'
but best of all.....'Open up the sky let the plaet that i love shine through! For crying out loud, you know i love you!'

That's funny, yesterday I thought about thees lyrics and thought they were great and now There is this topic.

Like a sinner-part is one of my fav's. Also the first verse from Bat: the describing of the scene.

The chorus from FCOl is so beautiful. Back in the eigties when I was a teeneager I always wrote the chorus on my English Exams when I had some time left. When I was 16 and had my first "love" I translatend the chorus into Dutch and send it to her in a letter ( romantic fool i was in these days )

- the chorus from Love her for both of us and also "i am gonna take her every moment that she wanted to live/I am gonna give her everything you always wanted to give.

- For all those promises we promised to keep- they won't be kept anymore/ Read em and weep.

- Bless all the girls...Kill you if you don't come back. Absolutely as big as any Shakespearelyric!

- the last part from objects "I never know where she disappeared". Somehow that is a simple but great part.

Besides steinman lyrics, I like Sarah Durkees lyrics. "Once a beutiful Miss America" is an awesome lyric. "I can hear the planet groaning like a broken down machine rusted with the guilty tears of fallen kings and queens"

"down on the corner there's a grocery boy stuffin boxes fulla hungry dreams. Boy, the girl can write!

I love 'Like a sinner before the gates of heaven i'll come crawling on back to you' from Bat.

I also love the last few lines in objects 'She used her body just line a bandage, i used my body just like a wound, I'll never know where she disapeared but i can see her rising up out of the backseat now'

Forgot to mention that one - that's one of my favourites. That's a brilliant line.

Also, Heaven Can Wait is full of great lines, the best of which are probably, "I know that I've been released but I don't know to where. Nobody's gonna tell me now and I don't really care" and "All I've got is time until the end of time."

"Somebody bless all these girls that I never have met but damn you and curse you after all that you’ve done you’re the one girl I’ll never forget...
Somebody bless all these girls and everything that they do but damn me and curse me for still needing you." One of Steinman's most underattedly, beautiful love songs.

"There are winners and outlaws and leaders and lovers behind every man in the news. And one thing I know is behind every one there’s a boy who had nothing to lose. Behind every man who has something to say there’s a boy who had nothing to prove. Every hero was once - every villain was once - just a boy with a bad attitude."

"We just never had no heroes."

"Don’t stand there in the rain looking like some long lost angel"

"You've been nothing but an angel every day of your life and now you wonder what it's like to be damned."

"You can fly and never land and never need to sleep; but will it ever be enough?"

"Belly up and bury boy all the hurt you feel today"

And finally, not a Meat Loaf lyric, but one of Steinman's best (maybe Meat is recording it now.... doubt it): "Too much is never enough" "If you're too scared to jump - you've gotta be shoved."

Dead Ringer (the album) has some of the most amazing lyrics to my mind...

(boy) Ooooooh You got the kind of legs that do more than walk

(girl:) I don’t have to listen to your whimpering talk

(boy:) you got the kind of eyes that do more than see

(girl:) you got a lotta nerve to come on to me

(boy:) you got the kind of lips that do more than drink

(girl:) you got the kind of mind that does less than think

Classic!

Just the whole of Read Em And Weep gets me so emotional - the ending just makes me wanna cry

From IGLHFBOU:
When the screws are tightnin’ and the tears are falling
I can hear her crying out to be saved
And like a bolt of lightning I go answer the call
But she’s singing like a siren to me over the waves

I never wanted to take away your lover
Until I heard her crying out to be saved
I always thought of you as one of my brothers
But she’s singing like a siren to me over the waves
Singing like a siren to me over the waves
There ain’t no holding me down!

If you give you me your girl, and you give me your trust, and you give me till the end of the night, IGLHFBOU

The whole album is genius!

Then I saw you making love to my best friend
I didn't know whatever to say
I saw you making love to my best friend
So I looked him right in the eye and I said: LISTEN BOY!

Won't you take some more it's what you came for
And don't mind me I won't throw you no curves
Have yourself a ball with my good woman
Won't you take some more boy IT'S MORE THAN YOU DESERVE!!

Most powerful line EVER!

Personally I love the line:
"You'll never be as young, as you are right now"

Another cool line though is:
"Nothing really rocks,
Nothing really rolls and
Nothings ever worth the cost"

Mercury has some weird lines ' Had me a girl, stole her from a friend, friend got lucky stole her back again' Hmm, not sure I'd want her back! Must be a small town thing.

I think alot of teenagers can relate to 'all revved up with no place to go'.

'all around the city you see the walking wounded and the living dead', exactly!

'Can you colourise my life, I'm so sick of black and white?'

'What about your gods?
They're defective! They forgot the warranty'

'You can't run away for ever
But there's nothing wrong with getting a good head start'
