Default London

Right, my dad, my little brother and I are going to London for a week (well from the 8th-13th) and we have a few ideas of what we want to do, but we're kinda running low. We've done plenty of things already from previous trips down there, and I was just wondering if theres anything anyone would recommend....??

We've already thought about the IMax, London Zoo (although dad is reluctant), Madame Tussauds/Planetarium, and I'm going to see WWRY with a few friends ( ).

So if anyone could suggest anything, that'd be great!

Trying to think what we did last year when I was there!

Went to London Zoo which was pretty good though certainly not the best I've been to. We did the London Dungeons too which was pretty good, there's a feature about Jack The Ripper which was really interesting and the actors in there were pretty funny.

Shopping on Oxford Street ( and of course a trip to Virgin Megastore to show my other half where I bounced with Meat! He was mega interested in that....! ), lots of the usual site seeing really...

A word about Madame Tussaud's though....if you've not been before, make sure you see everything you want to see in each room before you move on to the next section. Like anywhere it had a general route that you take around the place and everything is split into rooms, but as you get to the end you go on a fairground ride type thing that takes you round to see London through the ages, and when you get off you're in the gift shop - so make sure you've seen everything before you get on it as you can't get back.

Also....in there they have a section which if I remember rightly was also about Jack The Ripper....my other half laughs to this day as you will never again see me scream and run so fast in your life!! Scared the pants off me!

I've been to Madame T's before but that Chamber Live thing is new since we went, so we really wanna go see that. And all the newer wax works. Should be good!

I totally forgot about the London Dungeons...might look that up aswell. It sounds cool!

In fact, quote just in from my other half: "they're probably still cleaning up the mess you made!"

Enough said!

If Meat plays wembley during the Bat3 tour we should all have a big group outing down there Gerry! Start saving! !! LOL

I've always wanted to go to The Hard Rock Cafe or Planet Hollywood....may coax my dad into taking us there!

Been to Tower of London. Really cool...but we had to miss the dungeons unfortuantly.

You can't go wrong with Covent Garden, one of my favourite places. Along Tottenham Court Road the guitar shops, well music shops. In Virgin Megastores, downstairs there is a music shop which has near enough anything you could possibly want, some lovely Spector Basses there.
The Tower of London, Dungeons, The Globe Theatre, The Eye and the Saatchi gallery. Are all good.

I think the DUngeons is definitly on the agenda now (although dad's argument is that it's more expensive than the York Dungeons ).

I've always wanted to go to the Globe Theatre but noone else in my family have been interested

The best is/was (haven't been there in a few years) the little dinosaurs eating the big one, when I was little that used to scare me but each time I wanted to go back again.
Then the bit about creepy crawlies. In fact The National History Museum, is the best.

If youre coming down to London and you like music...you NEED to go into Soho!

For the shops -
Carnaby Street
Oxford Street
Camden Market (esp. the stables and main street markets)

The above places are meccas to me, esp Camden, which is my spiritual home and a place I may be moving very soon

For the sounds -

Wardour street (just off Oxford Street)...there is a really good couple of independant record shops there such as Shades *which should still be there...havnt been in a few months*, a little Jazz shop which has the most metal. basement. ever.

Music is also good in the Intrepid Fox pub, which is distinctive by the big ****-off gargoyle above the front door and the group of goths/skaters/general freaks inside
If youre there on the evening of the 12th, find me and i'll get you a drink

For other nightlife, try the following depending on what kind of music you like -
Glam/sleazy rock and roll - Decadence @ St Moritz, Wardour St. - over 16 policy, about a fiver to get in, but doesnt start until 11 and kicks out at 4
ROCK @ Mean Fiddler - this night one of the reasons I exist - £3-ish before 10 and £5-ish after, officially finishes at 3 but its been known to be open longer.
Marquee, Leicester Sq. - Legendary club, cheap to get in, over 18 policy but the doorman seriously doesnt seem to care. Band called Metalworkz plays every other friday, covering rock songs from the 70's/80's/early 90's, £3 before 9 or £6 after but the bar prices are way BEYOND cheeky.

Thrash/death/speed metal
theres only about two places worth going.
Subterreanean Hellnoise @ the Marlborough Head, just off Leicester Square - not too heavy, plays requests, "normal people" have been spotted in there.
The Devonshire Arms, Camden - I adore this place, but my eardrums dont. Free to get in *its a pub* and its only a 2 minute stagger from the station.
Garlic and Shots. One word. YES. Nearest tube - tottenham court road but careful not to take a wrong turning as its in the middle of the smut district (Soho)

*reads all the above*
Bloody hell...I might have gone overboard there but at least if youre bored at night you got a few ideas!!

Erm...............I never saw any dinosaurs eating each other!!!!!!! They had little moving models of the smaller dinosaurs, but I don't think they were eating each other!
