Default 45. Rock 'n' Roll Hero

This is the START OUT OF HELL & ARRIVE TO HEAVEN topic.
Let's Go to Rock 'n' Roll!!!!!!

Rock 'n' Roll Hero (6)

This song is okay! A trilly and cheerfuly song. I think the slang is killing the lyrics to the foreigner. Some line I can't understand cause I don't find them in my dictionary (it is 1200 pages). What does the next mean?

"Stacks of scratched up 45's"

It is a Carpe Diem song, request to the free!

"Livin' your life in a blaze of glory
A spark in your eyes
A flame in your soul
Givin' it all to the world!"

My score: 6

Average: 7.22 (65/9)

I picture it as "the ballad of Meat Loaf", because it fits Meats life - particularly in the late 80's when ML played the bars.

7/10

This song is the reverse side of the coin to Rock & Roll Mercenaries.Where a mercenary does it for the money and fame,a hero does it because he has to do it for himself.
The person I think who has put this best is Stephen King (for him it's writting, for me it's singing) who wrote in the foreword of his book Skeleton Crew when somebody asked him why he botherd...
Quote:
All the same, you don't do it for the money,or you're a monkey. You don't think of the bottom line,or you're a monkey. You don't think of it in terms of hourly wage, yearly wage, ever life time wage,or you're a monkey. In the end you don't even do it for love, although it would be nice to think so.You do it because to not do it is suicide. And while that is tough, there are compensations I could never tell Wyatt about, because he is not that kind of guy.
Quote:
I don't need to draw you a picture,do I?You don't do it for money;you do it because it saves you from feeling bad.A man or a woman able to turn his or her back on something like that is just a monkey, thats all.The story paid me by letting me get back to sleep when I felt as if I couldn't.I paid the story back by getting it concrete, which it wanted to be.The rest is just side effects.
Different subject, but the same reason.S.K. puts it better than I ever could.
Not a song I listen too often, but a message that is the very core of Rock & Roll.
10/10 Heroic.

You must be Mr Loaf himself. he has got always cinematic views about songs ohterwise he can't sing it. With this explanation you visualize it. This explanation of rock 'n'roll mercenaries en rock 'n'roll hero is really genius en it has to be an answer from the fat guy himself. Now i understand more of the structure of the album. thanx!

As for the song itself: I find that it doesn't stand out from the rest on the album... a 6 for the effort.

I thought this was a really good sounding song but the lyrics missed. It hit me as self indulgent. 7/10

a great song! fulla rock! awesome vocals and nice guitar work, would love to hear it live. a long guitar solo would serve it an extra point. great track!! to end the album, hmm? why not.
