i would like to know ,what people thought of meat doin fot crying out loud . ill know now that most of you now have the new dvd, so i thought the time is right to ask you your reviews, of fcol on the new dvd,mine is for years that is the song that i have waited to see meat do , and i thought he done a great job , with the speech before he done the song , just made it for me, it was like a dream come true ,(herd that line somewhere before) so much emtion to it he gave i had tears runing down my cheeks , please let me know what you folks thought of it ?

I had to get uses to it. Fist I thought it was pretty bad. Ofcourse it is not bad but you know, the version on bat i have known for 20 years now so I got used to that version and than its hard to get this total different live version

but

It is one of his greatest live performances ever. its truly outstanding. He is doing some vocal parts, well, i can't describe it, so beautiful it is. For example the last "when you're crying out loud you know...". That is really a great effort that vocal part, wow!

"is blowing down our bodies again " right after the verses he sings it a little higher, thats great too. And from the second time of the chorus straight to the end it is incredible vocals. I cant believe an 56-year-old after such a disastirious tour did such a song and in a way it was very risky for him to do it. But this song well, this is it. It just has it all.

It's brilliant - the improvs are particularly moving and it's obvious that he gave everything to the song. Love it (just listening to it while writing this actually!). 10/10

I think Meat quoted that he hadn't sang this song live since March 1978 New York City, Um do beg to differ as hubby and myself have heard and seen Meat sing For Crying Out Loud at Wembley in the early 1980's of this we are certain..Ah well you know Meat always changing........

Right back to where we should be What an amazing verson of For Crying Out Loud, the strings of the MSO really lent a different slant to this song, Mark Alexanders fingers drifted seamlessly over the black and whites, put me in mind of Steinman....

Meats voice has gained vibrato,( does anyone else hear this or just me)?
such emotion which came through in the soulful way that
Meat bought us a much loved song performed so rarely over the past years....

Meat cut an imposing figure perched on his stool, eyes closed, breathing and feeling every word of this fantastic song, the audience were enraptured, the stillness of the auditorium made this all the more poignant..

This song came straight from the heart , physically you could see the emotions came from deep inside Meat, the sweat, clenched hands, you felt as if you could almost reach and hold each word as it floated into the air.......

The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra lent a different dimension to this song, the strings were absolutely fabulous....

For Crying Out Loud made the hairs on my neck prickle, choked me and re-affirmed that indeed this song is one of my favourites...

thanxs for your reply dottie , i could'nt have said it better myself. dottie every word you said there , is the way i felt , meat did say on the commentry of the dvd , that he has played parts of it live , but not from start to finish, when you saw meat at wembley did he play it all the way through dottie, as you say you know what . meat is like allways changing ,lol

when i saw fcol on the new dvd i thought to myself it was really great. And I listenened to it again and again. It's really overwhelming. Meat is simply the best.

Thanks Greg and Ankie - I've read To Hell and Back and can get various other characters but not that one. Greg's explanation would certainly make sense. Have always loved this track soooo much.

I thought it was good. But they didn't take full advantage of the Orchestra. It was like they were jamming along. Meat didn't have it vocally, but performance-wise, it's one of the five greatest moments in rock and roll / cinema / stage and screen.

You're joking, he's still got one of the best operatic voices around - volume and pitch. Easier with the recording studio, sure, but FCOL demonstates ALL his vocal skills...

I don't think Meat will ever be able to top the original recording of FCOL. It was an amazing 8 and a half minutes of work.

I've heard him perform it a couple of times live and while he tries really really hard, i don't think he beats the original.

That said there's songs like Amnesty is Granted, Life is a Lemon, Couldn't Have said it better and midnight at the lost and found that he performs better then the originals so it works both ways.

Sorry allrevvedup I have to disagree - don't think Meat could put more into FCOL on the MSO DVD and his voice is spot on, in addition to the performance in which he gives everything. Listen to the commentary on the DVD and he also reflects on the passion that song is performed with. Of course I love the original recording but even better to see Meat doing what he's THE BEST at - giving it his all.

I don't think Meat could get that same sound as was BOOH, all songs included, especially after almost 30 years, it ain't possible. Meat was a lot younger then, and his voice was more powerful. But he gave it 110% and all credit to him, I still give it 10/10. I enjoyed it thoroughly.

Fire Ball have written here before about the voice recordings on Bat. That it is his voice but that it was speeded up and down all the way.

Like 2 outta 3, he never ever has sung live the same as on the record.

Just listened to FCOL again this morning on the way to work. I challenge anyone not to have a tear in their eye or a shiver up their spine when the strings come in at the second verse. A masterpiece it certainly is - and such command of a 10-minute song is a rare commodity in today's pop-dominated market...bet even Elton would be impressed given his recent comments about lip-synching
