Default An UNBELIEVABLE night.

Hi all.
Just wanted to share this with you.
Went to a stag do tonight with my regular roadie.
The grinning groom had already gone home to bed (shame on you Biggles ) by the time we got there, but we decided to head into town anyway.
Had a quick pint in "The Post Office" on the way, then headed off to The Rubber Soul on Matthew Street where there was karaoke till late .
I got up and sang Bat Out Of Hell, and while I was singing, this guy came up to the front and started doing camera angles through his fingers .Looked a bit like Madonna doing "Vouge" .
Anyway, I ignored him and got into character and in the moment and sang the song. The only way to do it.
Afterwards, the guy came up to me and asked me if he could have a word.
He told me that he was a scout for The X Factor II, which is due to start filming about three weeks after the current series, and that he thought my performace was fantastic.
He told me that he'd taken some video footage of me (he hoped I didn't mind) and sent it to his boss on the other end of the line, and aparently he was excited as he was, because I am apparently "Meat Loaf" .
He said that they have about 10,000 people auditioning for the show, but they'd like to automatically put me through to the first round. He said that he's personally like to put me through to the top ten .
I gave him my phone number, and he said he'd call me in about two weeks time.I guess i'll find out how genuine he is then .

But the best was yet to come.

A girl came over to me and said "you were in the boundry on Saturday night a few weeks ago".
The answer to this was yes.
She confessed to me that the night she was there, she was prepared to go home and kill herself.
The thing that changed her mind was when Carol and I sang together.
She said that when she seen the way I looked at Carol when I was singing at her gave this woman hope that there was something better in life than what she had right then.It was the way we sang to each other that gave her the hope and determination to carry on.
I can't tell you what that feels like.Without knowing it, we really made a difference in somebody's life that night.
To me, that is what an entertainer sells.Escapism.
No matter who you are, or what problems you have, an entertainer can, just for a little while, make you forget your problems and take you to a better place.
When somebody comes to you and says thank you for making the difference, that's the biggest pay off you could possibly have .

That's brilliant news about The X Factor II, Neil and even more incredible about that girl! I know that some people have posted that Meat Loaf has saved their lives and it's amazing that you and Carole have done the same too.

It must be wonderful to have a job that you not only enjoy but can touch people's lifes in such a special way too.

Well, done, sounds fantastic!!
It is also nice to hear somebody for a change being interested in how the audience is effected by the performance rather than how great he or she is.
I hope you go all the way to the top - keep us updated, I am sure loads of us would be delighted to be there at the finals to cheer you on!!

Neil

Nice to see you getting recognition for your hard work - it's hope it's genuine (watch out for that Simon Cowel - he's a nasty ~~~~~~ )

I bet you felt good when that woman told you her story - glad she made the right decision & you helped in your own special way

Thanks guys .
I've remembered what the guys name was.Simon Fuller.
It was a name that sounded quite familiar, but I didn't know why .Had a quick search and found out he's quite a big name in the music buisness .
It is possible that this guy was not "the" Simon Fuller, just someone who happens to have the same name. It's also possible that this guy is just some joker who get's his jollies by going to karaokes and telling gulable singers "Hi, i'm Simon Fuller, i'm gonna give you your big break" .
I can't be 100% sure, but the photos on the net do look like the guy I was talking too last night.
Saying that, I haven't looked at a newspaper today. There are probablly pics of Simon Fuller taken last night in London .

I don't expect anything big to come out of this.Shows like Pop Idol and The X Factor are all geared to finding the next pretty boy or boy/girl band .
To them, an overweight, long haired bloke who sweats a lot when he's belting a song out just isn't commercial .
It's a good novelty though, and the show needs novelties to keep it interesting.
This time next year, I could be doing a commercial for Pizza Hut .

Either way, it'll be a laugh

OK.This subject takes a little more thought .
It was an unbelievable feeling for someone to tell me that we prevented someone from killing themselves.
Very sobering.
No matter what you do in the entertainment buisness, you have the power to make people forget their problems for a short while. That really can work wonders.
Every entertainer can make a real difference to people on a regular basis. It's just that most of the time you don't know about it.
I've had nice moments in entertainment, where I think i've taken away people's pain for a short time.People with real bad things in their lives at that time. but this is deffinatly the first time someones said to me that Carol and I saved their life.
And just by singing??????????????

Neil, Simon Fuller is the CREATOR of Pop Idol and currently suing Simon Cowell for ripping his show off and making X Factor!!!

He is like the biggest name in the music industry, I'd be very excited if I were you!!!

So Simon Fuller has nothing to do with The X Factor (so will presumably have nothing to do with The X Factor II)?
That's weird
We'll soon see I supose

I'm so please Neil that through your music you have managed to save someone's life. That must have felt really good.

And it would be great if it was a genuine person you saw. Oh. well I'm sure you'll find out soon enough.
