Simply wrap it in bacon, and roast it on gas mark 4 for 20 mins.

This is based on a Delia Chris:
Spread large onion cut in rings over shallow roaster in a single layer, scatter 2 crushed garlic and some bruised thyme. Season rabbit joints and arrange them on the onions and drape the bacon rashers over the rabbit. Make up some parsley and thyme stuffing mix, adding some grated lemon rind and small cooking apple peeled and diced small. Form into small balls and scatter amongst rabbit pieces. Cook 35-40 minutes on 220/425. Remove rabbit and stuffing balls, put tray on stovetop and add 5 oz Madiera (or dry cider) Scrape pan and simmer until reduced by a third. Pour over rabbit and serve

As a kid growing up on a farm, I though everyone ate rabbit, duck, pheasant, blackberries, mushrooms etc, etc. I really didn't realise that it was because we were poor. Perhaps those that are turning their noses up on this subject have never been hungry.

Just spare a moment or two to think of all those in the world, and indeed in this country, who don't have the luxury of choice of food.

Thank you for the suggestions, I will be doing something with it for tea tomorrow.

However, I am amazed by the PM's and emails i have recieved on this. To the people who made the comments to me, people do eat things like rabbit.

I fail to see what possible difference there could be between eating rabbit and for example lamb? The idea that it should not be consumed because it can be used as a pet is utter twaddle to be frank. I know several people who have pet sheep but that does not stop me from sitting down to roast lamb of a sunday lunchtime.

Fair enough, some people do not like the thought of this and that is understandable and i accept that, however i fail to see why I should be criticised for eating it. I dare say that I would be ridiculed if i made a fuss over people eating beef as it is offensive to Hindus.

This message is not criticising everyone, merely the people who sent me messages (some quite abusive ones) attacking my personal choice. I appreciate that i could have replied by PM to each person concerned but I can't be bothered!!!

Oh and Ageing Bat, they also gave me Pheasant, Duck and numerous other cuts!! It was a smallholder who I deliver papers to, money was a bit tight so he settled his bills in the currency that he had availabel. in this case, home reared stock!! I really love delivering in summer when he pays in fresh home-grown veg adn fruit!!

So, what time's dinner Chris? Hope I get an invite!

By the way, does anyone not eat fish & chips because they've got some of their cousins in a fish tank?!!

Happy bartering Chris! Things always taste better when you've swaped rather than paid for them!

Even though I have three pet rabbits (That is Angel in my avatar) I don't see anything wrong with eating rabbit. There are some to breed and some to eat. I was also brought up on a farm and life is so much different then. I just wanted to put this so that you won't think it was me being abusive to Chris because most of you know I have pet rabbits. Hope you enjoyed your meal Chris, but I couldn't eat rabbit now after having kept them as pets, just my personal opinion. :)

I just have to give my opinion on this. I have eaten and enjoyed rabbit as a child. I haven't cooked it since I have been an adult. I don't know if I could cook it if it looked like a rabbit.

I don't really see the difference between eating beef, pork or lamb. My husband works on a farm and I have helped feed baby lambs but I am still happy to eat lamb.

Everyone is different so we should allow each other to eat whatever they like.

Talking of eating pets, and veering off topic for a little while - please indulge me...

[insert tongue in cheek]
Did you know it's perfectly legal to kill and cook your own dog, but not somebidy else's ? I keep threatening my muppet with the oven and it's a far better way of getting obedience (after a fashion) than Barbara Woodhouse's methods

I have rabbits, and I still eat them. I have watched Bambi, and I still eat venison. I have ridden horses, I've eaten them too.

I can understand about people not wanting to eat your pets. And I was the same when I was younger. But I realised its all part of the food chain, and everyone has the power of choice.

And now reading all of this has made me hungry. Barbequed squirrel anyone?
