Default Funny Faces

Don't know if this a stupid question or not but can anyone tell me why there are suddenly little faces under everyone's avatar? Is it anything to do with why the forums were apparently down for a while?

It seems to be a new buddy management system. Hopefully an explanation will be posted by one of the mods.

Click on profile, then Manage Buddy/Ignore/Disallow Lists.
There's a FAQ link. Lots to read.

After you click on profile, at the top of your profile you see: Manage Buddy/Ignore/Disallow Lists, just click on that.

he he... but hey, I added some buddies now, so I'm a happy little fishy again
Dottie, choose "add buddy" and put a nickname of someone you want to add. Or, if you don't know the correct nick, just type * in the popup screen in the left corner. Then choose the one you want to add and confirm that. No worries, you'll get the hang of it.

A question
Since there is an "ignored by" bit, isn't that going to cause offence/ hurt feelings etc?

I've decided not to look at that bit. I might get depressed.

Seriously though hopefully it shouldn't have to be used that often.

I think that option is meant only to be used in case of a fight or someone that is really offfensive/abusive.
I can't imagine I'll have to use it.

Well ... it is quite easy actually:

(1) The Buddy List: Buddies are your "online friends".
Using the buddylist you have quick access to these usernames for posting a PM as an example.

(2) The Ignore List
Messages from users in your ignore list are removed completely from your view. You will not see any posts by someone on your ignore list.

(3) The Disallow List
Users in your Disallow List cannot contact you (through the forum) by PM or email. Furthermore all contact details of your profile are invisible them.

Just browse the memberlist or simply view a topic or user profile and fill your lists by clicking on the appropriate smilie. Use the managing functions in your profile to amend your lists.

That's all. More info here.

I don't think a mod need to use the Ignore list.

R.
just a question here,i've read the above explanation by you,
but can't really understand the point/purpose of "buddy "thing.....
perhaps it's just me...
the "ignored by" bit worries me, surely this will cause ill feeling....if you end up on someone's "ignored by" list.
Won't it cause division and ill feeling on the forum??
I'm genuinely concerned by this....hence this post

Well, let me say it this way:
I do think that all members will use this tool wisely (ok, i'm ignoring the fight club here). Why do I think this?

Well, as you already found out, the "Ignored by" and "Disallow" feature always show that you are "ignored" by someone else.
And exactly this will make people think about "ignoring" or "disallowing" somebody else. This coin has two sides and both are visible all the time.

On the other hand, I think that a buddylist is quite useful and a standard feature of modern BB software. If you post lots of PMs, then use the buddylist for "easy-addressing". Give this a try, add some users to your buddylist, then compose a PM. You'll find a button called "Buddies". Click on it - you'll find out the rest for yourself.

The "Disallow function" was actually requested more than once and basically allows to reject private messages.
Nothing more - nothing less, another standard forum software feature.

At the end of the day, you decide for yourself how you "act" in this virtual community.
If you ask for freedom of speech you could also ask for freedom of choice regarding what you want to "see" in this community.
Now you can.

I think the buddy list and the disallow list will be very useful to alot of the forum members

I can't help but think the ignore list could be a bit strange though. If you don't actually see any posts by the users on your ignore list some threads could lose their sense (assuming they made sense in the first place ) if some posts are missing.

There isn't anyone I'd want to ignore so I guess I'm not going to find out.
