Actually my tribute band is a tribute to both you and Billy.

He and you have songs that really mesh so well together :)

Ya on some of the higher stuff he mixes himself out and let's the BVs take it.

Uptown Girl is usually all just backing vocals and Billy miming.

But for what he can lower, he does lower.

You should totally see about doing one of his guest spots at MSG!!

I've been talking about Billy Joel's first album "COLD SPRING HARBOR" a bit lately. And the BS he went through on it. Did you know they mastered it at the wrong speed so that Billy sounded almost like Alvin and the Chipmunks? That's what I read. Then he was touring around and didn't even see a copy in the shops? So he just walked out one day, started working in piano bars as BILL MARTIN, where he wrote "Piano Man", and Columbia Records heard "Captain Jack" on the radio, and the rest is history...

But the original record company wanted their label on the next TEN albums.

I do not believe Billy has ever really completed "COLD SPRING HARBOR". Go and check it out if you haven't already. It's a pretty interesting piece. Raw. Intimate. I would be interested to see him remake it actually.

What happens in recording studios these days would really shock you all ( except you meat ) you already know. So many artists are plugged in and programmed to sound perfect.have them only sing a few notes and the rest is all put together. Going in and singing your heart out is a rare thing these days.

Exactly .. he brings an energy and obvious love for what he's doing, does it damn well, and gives his fans a great night. If his voice has changed over the years, if he doesn't hit all the notes he used to, they don't care because he's giving them a great night which is what they've come for

Perhaps because your voice has always been so extraordinary, some fans forget you don't sing a list of songs but rather deliver a SHOW, conceived, designed and delivered as a night of musical entertainment live on stage, packed with passion and spectacle .. and if you don't deliver the odd note as you used to 20 years ago, you still deliver thousands, still have that passion which brings each song to such special life, and your stagecraft and ability to reach out to an audience has only increased with the years.

They miss the point imo. But every time, many thousands of them don't. They are the ones who stand at the end cheering and willing you not to leave the stage; the ones who keep begging you to come back again. They are legion. I am one of them
