I have Dead Ringer for VHS its a nice little arrange of music videos with a small but funny story in between. Its like watching that Micheal Jackson film Moonwalker.

I would digitalize it but I don't know how to do that for VHS.

REALLY?

Have you any idea how hard hunted that movie has been?

To give you some sort of indication, i've heard the term "Holy Grail" used more than once by fans in connection to the Dead Ringer movie (and that's not an exageration).

Do you mind telling us more about the tape and where you got it from?

Is it an official tape or a bootleg?

If it's official does it have any kind of label on it? (any chance of a photo if this is the case?)

When and how did it come into your possession? (if you bought it, do you mind telling us how much you paid?)

There are two versions of the movie:

1 - The version that Meat Loaf and his team produced
2 - The version that the record company tampered with

I would not consider either to be truncated, just they are what they are. We have only seen one version widely (which is the version that a private collector owns the 35 mm print of), so no telling what the other version is/is like.

My mom got this when she was in British Columbia at a video store that was selling it, she never heard the dead ringer album before. Its basically Meat and the manager trying to do business but Meat is acting crazy. Its funny my favourite bit was before More than you deserve when he cannot get any pie at the reception he flips out and it goes to the video.

The front of the box is a simple black boarder arounf its carboard slip on, the top right hand corner is the price tag of the video it is a yellow sticker I haven't removed it cause it might damage the box. The front is the cover of the Dead Ringer album and on the black boarder is a caption saying "It's the Complete Meat Loaf Experience".

The back is black covering with a sypnosis describing the music videos and Meat Loaf's achievments, from the man that brought you Bat Out Of Hell brings another "Hell of a ride". I am paraphrasing but its essentially the same. The main image at the back is Meat Loaf in his opera outfit and three panels showing off the music videos, love her for both of us, more than you deserve, and peel out. It was distributed by VH1 according to the binding.

Its a little worn but still play great. I am not sure if it was a limited release or what but its one hell of a vhs.

As for the price the sticker said $13.99 and the runtime as Wario asks its says on the back 101 mins. approximately. I'll see if I can borrow a digital camera or something so I can post pictures. I was severly distraught then as it lacks Steinman appearance since he did write the album I think he would've gotten equal runtime with Meat.

I am not much of a media wiz so how would one go about doing that? And does anyone know why is there a lack of Steinman on this film?

Thanks for the info.
That's one hell of a rare item you have.
It's got to be just about the rarest commercial release ever put out by Meat.
It's amazing to learn that a copy ever got as far as a shop shelf.
Any idea what year your mum bought this? I'm guessing early 80's.

Meat and Jimmy were drifting apart. Meat being the focus of the Bat album rather than the spotlight being on them both as a team was a big factor. Swinenberg, although still working with both of them, was not helping the situation and was activly keeping them apart.
Also, Meat was busy with Dead Ringer while Jimmy was working with his solo album Bad For Good.

Actually my mom got it in the early ninty's about 1993 or so it was when her and my dad were camping out there during a summer that she bought it. It was a used copy. My mother also collected several other VH1 tapes, including Jim Steinman Bad for good which show cases a brief interview with Jim about his album and shows the music video bad for good which starts with the storm and has life death and an american guitar.

Then it shows the interview then dance in my pants then the end of the interview where he says he is planning another album. Then it ends with rock and roll dreams.

My mom was baffo for music videos and collected many of their early vhs releases including Queen and the beatles. She has Bat out of hell on VHS which shows all his music videos. From that album. However once VHS became less of a market I guess she stopped bothering buying them. My fav art is the Jim Steinman one its the album cover on front and at the back shows Jim and his eyes are glowing with white light and he has wings.

That could explain things.
Perhaps the copy you have is a promo copy of the intended VHS release.
I would expect the word "promo" to appear on the packaging somewhere, but that's not always the case.
It would explain why this one copy has found it's way into circulation and why there are (so far) no other known examples of the movie on VHS.

Still a extremely exciting and rare find though
