I know I could add a poll to this post, but I'm not going to because I'd rather people wrote an answer to this thread, and shared their experience. Meat Loaf has sung many passionate, deep, and personal songs. He's been through so much pain and torment in his life, that so many people can relate to. If I'm honest I've cried many times listening to Meat Loaf, and that's why I love him and Jim Steinman so much. For songs like "Objects" and "For Crying Out Loud" and it's hard to explain why, but the music hits a nerve with me all the time. I won't write much more but I hope people will reply with personal comments on how he has affected you emotionally, and I think that's the best way to put it.

Not so much cry, but shed a few tears. Hershey, PA in 2010 standing front row between Meat and Paul. Had just met the man an hour before this and now I'm standing here front row listening to him perform BOH. It was like the top of my bucket list, a concert that I wanted to go to so bad. Not only did I get to go, but I met him and scored front row, and I will admit that my emotions got the better of me for a moment and I shed a few tears because of all the emotion and the passion welling up at one time.

Yes,i still well up when i hear "Anything for love". In 2003 my Dad had a couple of big strokes, we looked after him at home as we knew the Docs could not do anything for him, he was bed ridden and unable to talk, when Meat Loaf AFL came on TV or Radio he made a noise and pointed at me and he smiled 3 days later we lost him, went to see meat loaf live and he sung AFL i was crying in the arena. its the only time he smiled during his illness.

I cried when Meat left the stage in Perth. It all happened so suddenly, we were expecting the encore, so I was slowly working towards the fact that soon the concert would be over and he'd not be back in Australia again, then bam, he said they couldn't do one and was off.
As far as songs making me cry, yes I've probably shed a few tears at certain times, depending on what song has hit me and how I'm feeling. I do remember sitting and watching the MSO DVD once bawling my eyes out. |

No. And I shed tears while listening to lots of music, but not ML. It's either the song touches a nerve for a personal reason or that it's just a sad song. ML hasn't done that because most of his songs aren't extremely sad and they haven't had the random personal connection which brings on sad thoughts.
The closest I ever came with ML was 'objects'... Than again I'm not one to cry just because something is extremely good. That's what goosebumps are for... ![]() |

As for songs making me cry, I've had several of them do that to me. There is no deep reason for it other than the passion and feeling he puts into the performance.
The other moment I recall crying over Meat or something relating to him was over the album signing. Not over him because he was lovely but how I felt I wasted the opportunity and also the fact that all I could think about was how mad I was with security and how it affected my enjoyment of the event. A friend told me not long after to work with what i achieved rather that what I didn't and that seems to have stopped me overthinking it too much. |

Watching Meat put his heart and soul into For Crying Out Loud at the MSO concert, the crowd around me disappeared, I lost myself in his emotion and bawled my eyes out.
Is Nothing Sacred brings a lump to my throat every time I hear it. I can so relate to Melon's comment about that feeling at the end of Meat's concerts. I hate the feeling of loss as Meat walks off, removing his energy and presence. I find I have to compose myself before I leave the arena. |

Not directly. But back in 1996 I was supposed to "lead" a group of fans to a "meet and greet" back when they were free. Turns out the person who had phoned me had mixed up the information and the venue staff we contacted knew nothing about it and kept us waiting. I wasn't as assertive back then and I could have done more. Thing is we missed the "meet and greet". Most of the venue staff were kids from the local college probably working only a few hours so they did not know and may have thought we were lying. Looking at everyone who had depended on me - even though there was miscommunication - and their disappointment after being so excited gutted me. Even missing my own chance to meet Meat (a bucket list item for me) as bad as that was can not convey how bad I felt. I still have bad dreams about it occasionally. I can still see all those disappointed faces looking at me and feeling that I somehow failed them on something that meant so much to them, and I can never make it up to them. He hasn't played this area since so I doubt many of them ever got the chance to meet him.

The two times I've had the strongest reactions;
1) At my first concert (august 2nd in London) on the Casa De Carne Tour when we where lined up outside and they starting doing soundcheck for Bad for Good and I could hear Patti and CC and just burst in tears because I was finally seeing my hero. 2) This was on the first birthday of my Dad since he was passed away and I was sitting in my bed watching the MSO dvd for the first time (Also the first time I'd heard Paradise) 2/3 came on and I just burst into tears |

I shed a few tears on CA when Meat showed how much he cared about his wonderful charity. He made me really think of those kids.

Meat Loaf directly: CA also when he showed such emotion over his charity.
One of his songs: When I was about 17 and had been dumped, played 2 out of 3 ain't bad, had me sobbing into a box of tissues ![]() ![]() |

Shortly after HIAHB came out, Another Day had me pretty teary. No other ML song has done before but the raw emotion in his performance of this song just floored me. Especially the bit where "she's gone again" - wow!

Years ago, my grandpa died and seeing/hearing "Is Nothing Sacred" at the show made me burst into tears. Every time I hear "Another Day" and "Our Love and Our Souls", I tear up. I'm really excited to hear OLAOS live.

OMG yes! There are a few that make me tear up, that is for sure! I find a lot of his live performances really run goose bumps up the spine and down the arms and legs, and of course produce some tears. Those would be BOH, Anything for love, Amnesty is granted, awwwww Blind as a Bat! Hmmmmmm, I'm still Alive. Shoot there are heaps

Since everyone is talking about moments involving ML instead of the Songs, there was one time that I cried:
When I heard that Jim was off of BOOH3 and Desmond Child was in. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I was crying for hours trying to fill up all the holes with some sense. |

After my Father died from lung cancer in October 2008, I went to see Meat at Clearwater, FL. When he was singing Rock And Roll Dreams, he was looking directly at me ... motioning and pointing when he sang "for you". I just sat there in awe, completely overwhelmed .. and after the show was over, I just sat there crying like a baby. It was as if Meat was telling me everything was ok, and to just let the music relax and let me escape the pain.
For a while after that, I would cry every time I heard the music for the song start because it reminded me of that night. |

Yes & more times than I should ever admit.
So many of Meat's songs are not only very powerful but have so much emotion that if you have had a bad day they can take you to a place where you feel at peace with yourself ... BUT Heaven can wait always stops me in my tracks whenever it comes on through randomplay & to this day I crack up if it is the version from LATW where its just Meat & Jim. That song has saved me when I have been in some very dark places & I can not find words to say just how much it means to me. |
