Busey was in charge, and was a failure at being in charge. and He still won.
No final boardroom, but a woman was fired. She was too much of a team player, to which she should be commended. Her name: Meat didn't receive that much screen time, which was a bummer. He seemed to be out of a lot of the shots. wouldve liked to see more of the banner making process. Meat and Gary had a little spat at the beginning but the "Settle Down" was taken completely out of context. Meat messed up a part of the presentation, but luckily nothing he messed up on affected the boardroom debate. Gary is not well liked on the team. Its Meat, JR, Mark, Jose, and Lil Jon vs Richard and Gary good episode. not too stress induced. Star Jones is growing on me. Next week: Dione's the PM and Lil Jon's the PM and their directors of a commercial. Someone does something distasteful that Trump says "They Cannot get away with". Excited. So glad the men won. Loved hearing John Rich and Meat singing together. He needs to get John to do something on the new album.
No Gary and Meat showdown this week. Extra TV was wrong! I did say I believed them as much as I believed that trash rag, the National Enquirer. Next weeks episode looks good. Hoping for another win by Team Backbone and Meat, of course! |

Love watching the show but the women need to get rid of Star JOahn and Deon. I can't believe they are still on there.
Laughed when John said "Meat's my roadie!" |

Episode 3:
This episode begins where Episode 2 left off. Showing the men going into the boardroom. The promo’s had Gary approaching Meat and telling him to settle down. But Gary is on another plane most of the time and Meat was totally calm while explaining to Gary that he loses focus. After a childlike Gary tries to drag on the argument, Meat concedes just to shut Gary up and says “okay, you’re right, I’m wrong.” The women come back in and join the men while awaiting the two left from the firing squad to return. In walks Star and Dionne and wham Star and NeNe are getting into it a little bit about control over the task and more “oh no you didn’t” and “I’m keeping it real”. Sent me for the excederine again. In front of Trump Towers the next task is assigned and the camping task is announced with it’s criteria of how they are going to be judged. Team managers are chosen after a little deliberation. The men went with Gary Busey and the ladies went with Nikki Taylor. It is apparent that Gary has NO direction straight out of the gate. This seems to be the trend throughout this task. The ladies actually seemed a bit more organized and the project manager asked pertinent questions to the task at hand. They had a walk through of the features and benefits of the RV’s which were the centerpieces for the brand Camping World. There was much confusion on the mens side because Gary couldn’t make a cohesive plan. If it weren’t for Lil Jon, John Rich, Meat Loaf, Mark McGrath, and Richard Hatch, Gary would have sunk this challenge. I just don’t think the men wanted to lose overall, so they pulled together, came up with a theme and executed it. There was a confrontation between John Rich and Richard Hatch in the van because Hatch eluded to the fact that the country audience were Hickish , uneducated, and had little money. Which sent Rich into a strong stance defending his fan base and that Hatch’s stereotyping was wrong. Meat was sitting right next to Rich while this exchange was going on, his hand went over his brow almost as a face palm type of move. The mens and ladies teams went shopping at Camping World to outfit their campsites which were to capture the essence of Camping World’s products. The women took about 7-8 carts full of stuff. The men came in, got what they needed and got out. Leaving the women to ponder all of the things that they selected for their campsites. Dionne was shown shopping at a snail’s pace, while Busey was excited about walkie-talkies. Meat and Rich were off getting 3 banners made for informative product draw. And Ivanka comes in the RV to see Gary and Jose sitting on the couch enjoying the fire place. This made Ivanka question their production. Meat and Rich get back to find the stuff they got from Camping World still in boxes. John was a bit bothered by it. Meanwhile, Gary had approved two different people for trees and shrubs which were to arrive the next day with a shortage of funds. Yikes! Mark was one of the people obtaining greens and he called to cancel the order for lack of funds. The company ended up donating the greens free of charge and the men’s outdoor camping site was looking fun and together. Meat was shown folding washcloths and moving a large potted plant, amongst other things. Meat was the presenter of the campsite to the Camping World representative/judge. The ladies were busy fluffing up the inside of the RV’s, but their outside was something less to be desired. I think Nikki ended up nixing a lot of the purchase at Camping World, because I was trying to figure out where all the stuff they got went to . It simply wasn’t there. However they got points for presentation by Latoya (she had excellent product knowledge) and she presented with enthusiasm. And they got points for interior design. Their minus came from outside asthetics. Meat’s presentation was going fabulous UNTIL the representative asked what was behind the door (THAT THE BANNER WAS HIDING ON THE EXTERIOR OF THE RV). “WHA?” Meat said, “I don’t know!” Low and behold there was a door Meat knew nothing about behind the banner. Open the door, a nice flat screen TV for outdoor watching was tucked into the side of the RV. Crikey! Meat was disappointed he didn’t know about it. His reaction was kinda funny, but he was clearly disappointed. To the boardroom, Nikki was put on the spot as how did she think her team did in the task. Her answer was wishy washy with the I don’t know. Trump stated that that didn’t bode well. Star was happy with her team manager (go figure). Marlee had a little to say about Dionne’s work ethic and left it off with she does what is expected of her and if that’s what your looking for, then that is a compliment. The men are up next and Gary thinks he is a great project manager. Lil Jon called him a train wreck as a project manager, but the team got it done and had his back anyway. Hatch was not complimentary towards Gary either. Meat was politically correct and Trump gave Meat something to go on. Having said that, Gary informed the boardroom that he was fitted for hearing aids thanks to Marlee for the hookup and he was actually legally deaf using only 40% of his hearing. That’s why he said WHAT angrily. His hearing aids have helped his speech and seemed less garbled during this episode. And Mark commented that he thinks Gary having his hearing back is great, but he still was not a great project manager. Trump elaborated that the representative from Camping World was impressed with Latoya from the women and Rich from the men because they had a musical jingle to accompany their tour. Meat goes running out of the room per a request for a handy guitar, and then goes running back in. Rich is elated that Meat is his roadie which was hilarious. Rich played the jingle. Meat and Mark sang backing and the men’s team was declared the winner of the task hands down. The men take their exit and watch on TV the women’s fate. Nikki doesn’t want to throw anyone under the bus so she takes full responsibility for the failing task. After a few questions from Trump, Nikki remains steadfast and Nikki was ultimately fired. My take on Meat's participation: He took the nose to the ground hard work angle today. He physically and mentally grabbed the challenge but not very verbal. He was given his responsibility and he did it to the high standards that he gives himself. Bravo! Still playing smart, as if I had any doubt. Suzieq |

Again a feature of ASAP was that people wanted to do what they wanted to do rather than what they were tasked/asked and agreed to do, and Star continued to keep telling all that she would have done things differently and better .. to camera "I'm a person who solves problems rather than creating problems". When Trump Jnr arrived and Niki told him she was prepared to take full responsibility if her team lost, I knew if that they did the writing would be on the wall for her departure
![]() Quote of the week: from Hope, when she and Niki were struggling to remember what century we're in (and grappling with their slogan "21st Century camping" seemed to be incredibly difficult!) .. "I always remember centuries because it's a hundred, and there's a hundred cents in a dollar" ![]() The footage of Meat at the beginning trying to explain to Busey why he'd said in the previous boardroom session that he (Busey) was the hardest to manage was illuminating. Meat was calm, gentle, trying to explain what he meant by keeping focus. His voice, hand movements and body language were open and aimed at defusing the situation, but Gary was aggressive, interrupting, not listening, and imo isn't even aware of how aggressive some of his body language is. He was in Meat's face pointing to emphasise what he was saying .. perhaps not even realising he was doing it, and is probably unaware of how annoying it is. Meat ended it by saying "OK I'm wrong, you're right"; the bigger man who realises there's no way of addressing it in the situation and time allowed, particularly when there are cameras around recording what's going on. It's clear that all the men find Gary difficult at times. Meat replied honestly yet tactfully in the boardroom when he was leader, but Gary had decided to take exception to this, wasn't prepared to hear Meat out on what he meant, and I sense is going to remain ever waiting to take exception .. rather as David Niven described Charles Laughton .. hanging around waiting to be insulted .. Later in the boardroom he said his loud and aggressive "What???"s were due to his anger over his hearing loss. Let's hope that now stops. We'll see. I think it's a developed style that will be hard to lose, and on ther walk back from the boardroom he was snapping away at John about his criticism of his leadership style, and then confronted Hatch about his answer to Trump. The possible exception to finding Busey difficult is Jose, (although he too criticised his leadership style) who seemed to spend large amounts of time just sitting; he sits well ![]() ![]() Busey was imo a less than wholly effective teamleader whose team won due more to their team effort than to clear and firm leadership. OK, his accident seems to have left him somewhat impaired in terms of concentrating and maintaining focus, and in the boardroom we find he's been deaf since then (until Marlee got him help a week ago), but to me his contribution is shaped and limited by that, and he's often disruptive rather than helpful. He's selective in his listening, and not reliable in how much he takes in and remembers. Mark's description "hummingbird mind" was very apt. A real contrast to Meat, who's focused, and in the RV was taking notes, and asked Gary if he wanted to assign tasks .. a question that went unanswered at the time and led to the double order of plants etc ... Interesting that later when someone expressed uncertainly as to what they were all doing, and how the presentation would go, John said "I think Meat Loaf's got it all in his head" Gary didn't respond well when Mark pointed out he had given his agreement to the cost of greenery. He didn't have a clear picture of what was going on and what he was agreeing to, but he tended to respond aggressively when things like this happened. He was enthusiastic, was described as "inspirational" by JR, and it's probably true that his energy is contagious .. when it's in evidence. He kept something of a handle on progress, but many things seemed to slip past his radar. He talks a good leadership talk, very hot on the forming of buzzphases, but putting less of it all into practice. When Mark was concerned about progress, and Gary and Jose were just sitting in deckchairs shooting the breeze, Mark rang JR but didn't tackle Gary direct .. perhaps an indication that people are wary of addressing issues with him; so things just stagnated until Meat and JR came back, when as Meat said "We're going to have to hustle" .. and their return did inject some energy into getting things unpacked and sorted ![]() In the task Meat did what he does. He's a team player through and through, leads when he has that position, puts his whole effort into what he has to do when he's one of the team. He was crestfallen that during his presentation he was caught out by not he knowing what was in the hatch behind the banner .. but he made a really solid contribution to the task, and the branding that he and JR had been working on, and JR's song (yes, that Country style singing dismissed by Jose as likely to alienate those who weren't uneducated hicks! ![]() Overall to me Backbone are able to work as a team in terms of delivery more effectively than ASAP, who work much more as a group of individuals pursuing individual agendas. This gives the the edge. Loved Meat's "phew" when he went from the boardroom to get the guitar, and his run back with it ![]() Caryl |

I rather hope John Rich isn't on HIAH. Don't get me wrong, I respect John Rich and I like his music. But it's country music and I hope Meat's next album is just pure rock. Meat doesn't need guest artists, he's the star. I'm glad to see the men win too, but I honestly had no clue who would win based on Gary's management style. |

Did I misunderstand her or was Niki saying the 20th century instead of the 21st century in her demo speeches?

Another great episode. Meat was very diplomatic when trying to make
Gary see he wasn't disrespecting him with what he said in the boardroom and tried to patiently explain what he meant, but Gary was getting in his face all agro and trying to pick a fight about it. I liked how Meat just said I'm wrong, you're right and just let it go. I can't believe Jose just seemed to be sitting around on his arse all day doing nothing. When Meat and the others got back and all the stuff was still sitting in the boxes, you could see they were really pissed off about it, but rather than get in a huge fight about it, just got on with it and unpacked everything. I thought Meat's presentation was great, and really felt for him for not knowing what was behind the banner. But it wasn't his fault. And the women are just so egotistical. Like someone else said, there are only 2 non bitches in that lot. Dionne is pretty hopeless so it will be interestng seeing her trying to lead that lot. Good luck to her!!!!! Carole |

And Chris, even if they'd lost, Busey might not have been fired. I'm glad Backbone won .. Meat's someone who sets out to win, and the team deserved it.
Meat's doing a magnificent job, yet you keep bringing us back to the only thing he was upset about in all the episodes he was in .. and that's ALL the episodes. The reputation he's gaining on the show for someone who's focused, intelligent, watchful, works hard, keeps things and the team going, and is a major contributor to Backbone's success is surely the thing we should be keeping to the forefront and celebrating? He's well liked and respected by his team mates, and I expect that to continue. At this stage we still have no idea of what happened apart from a few seconds on a promo clip .. a few seconds exchange (with someone who's already getting paranoid about plots behind his back, and aggressively tackling anyone who offers him any criticism whatsoever, however carefully delivered,) out of 13 hours broadcasting and twice as many days hard graft? Seems a shame to me that this keeps overshadowing (to use Pud's description, as this is one of those occasions when I agree with him) the "stellar" performance he's delivering. Can't we focus on what we have seen in context, and how good that's been, rather than keep beating our breasts about something we really know little about. Frankly anyone who doesn't watch the shows but is turned off Meat through solely watching a few seconds on a promo clip is imo rather like someone deciding he can't perform based on a couple of lines in a newspaper review. Those who watch the shows will imo probably when seeing it in context understand, and will remain impressed by all the positives they see in how he works throughout the series. Caryl |
