Default Stoney & Meatloaf album reviews thread

Im very very surprised this hasn't been thoroughly reviewed by fellow users.

In light of this weekend's first show of the TEDDY BEAR TOUR, This is here so you can all post your reviews for the album in question.

Since Meat is hitting a song from every album on this tour, remembering past albums is always key.

We all reviewed HCTB to death, why not review the old timers?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Review:

This album is underrated to an extent. has some kickass tunes and some ass tunes.
  • Heavy as Jesus: This song, for me, is one of the highlihts. its gospel/mowtown rolled in one. The chorus is catchy and meat's in top shape.
  • She waits at the window: I gotta say, this is real different. The song is great, but theirs an odd vocal edit that sounds pretty weird.
  • Game Of Love: no meat, all stoney. good listen, but not a keeper.
  • It Takes All Kinds Of People: Second best song on the album. Its Heavy as Jesus on steroids. Rockin Gospel.
  • Kiss Me Again: Bad. Just terrible. Two minutes of singing followed by a three minute instrumental to make up for lousy song writing. ridiculous.
  • What You See Is What You Get: Most would argue this is the best on the album. I wont contest that cause it is.
  • Sunshine: sentimental but very sappy. SOme good singing and emotional undertone rates this high.
  • Jimmy Bell: I prefer the extended version with extended instrumentation. The regular edit is too heavy on the bongos. all the same, its a fecking good tune.
  • Lady Be Mine: This song sucks. Sorry. But It Does.
  • Jessica White: This song is good, not great. But the chorus is above par
  • Stoned Heart: Would've been possibly the best S&M song if the damn producer didn't omit stoney.
  • Way you do the thing you do: Above par temptations cover. wouldve been better if the song wasnt shortened.
  • Who is The Leader: Same deal with Stoned Heart. God that stupid producer.
  • Everything Under The Sun: Stoney is omitted obviously which is terrible. This song is terrible. but worst yet the omitted stoney vocal is audible in one section. STUPID PRODUCERS AHOY.

Overall: 7/10

It would have been nice if you had reviewed the actual album instead of a compilation of the various releases. The tracklist of the 1971 version is:

Side A
(I'd Love To Be) As Heavy as Jesus
She Waits By The Window
It Takes All Kinds Of People
Game Of Love
Kiss Me Again

Side B
What You See Is What You Get
Sunshine (Where's Heaven)
Jimmy Bell
Lady Be Mine
Jessica White

These are all songs that did not appear on the original album but were released on the 1978 versions (which should obviously be flogged as a "Meat Loaf" album, according to their covers). The original Stoney and Meatloaf should be reviewed seperately from the re-releases, in my opinion, as some of the "new" songs were apparently altered. I assume the original recordings sounded different from what was finally put on the record in 1978.

The instrumental is the best part of the song. I don't like the lyrics and the singing, but the guitar solo is quite good.

I reviewed te album, just decided to give my two cents on the other recordings aha. should have separated them with a heading.

It's neither accurate nor fair to review the original album along with dodgy re-releases, especially when you're tempted to use phrases like "stupid producers ahoy".

If you like Motown stuff, Stoney & Meatloaf is a nice album. It might not appeal to many Meat Loaf fans but it shows what a versatile singer Meat was - especially if you compare it to his vocals on Ted Nugent's Free-For-All just five years later.

7/10, maybe even 8/10 for the original album - when I'm in the mood for that kind of music. I don't know why but I often use to play it right after an old, crackling Mahalia Jackson record.

I always liked Sunshine and She waits by the Window, off this album. It'd be nice to hear them again someday with new arrangements
