Default A question about the quality of Meat Loaf Live

I'm sure that there are more than a few of you who have a copy of a radio broadcast featuring some songs from this concert. How come the songs sound so much clearer and better quality than on the officially released album? Any ideas?

Mabey cause meat's brother in law produced the officially released version and veteran sound technicians mixed the radio product.

I mean yea, the synthesizer was completley muted from Took The Words on the CD version.

But even with it not being as clear, its still the best peice of Live we have in our "official' bin

Anyone who's a fan can agree MLLive is one of his best releases

It is good, however it's a bit like trying to watch Die Hard with vaseline smeared over part of your telly. You can appreciate its a good film, but its not as clear as you'd like.

Have you heard a radio broadcast that has BBIS, Midnight, YTTW and Bat? If so then compare the two. If you haven't then I understand why you would think that.

I think the sound is quite poor for a live album. Not enough bass, Meat's vocals are far too low in the mix at times (listen to Paradise, it's ridiculous imo).
Having said that you can still clearly hear there are some awesome live versions, vocals, scoarching guitar solos (2 out of 3) and arrangements on that album.

Modern Girl in particular on this album was excellent (I think the greatest ever)

For those who have no idea what I'm talking about here is a quick exercise in compare and contrast.

The first 30 seconds is Midnight At The Lost And Found from the Meat Loaf Live CD, the second 30 seconds is the same piece from the aforementioned radio broadcast.

Thats easy; the yare two different performances. the one for the radio station is the one that wasn't used for the album .Took the words is a different version then the released version. So is BBIS and Midnight and BOOH

I'm aware that they are two different performances, but they should be of the same quality should they not?

not necessarily. It was how his brother in law engineered it.

Then it wasn't engineered well enough! Thinking about it, wasn't this album done on the cheap so Meat could get out of his current contract and sign with Virgin?

It was certainly rushed out, although I don't think Meat signede with Virgin straight away, I seem to remember it being a year or twos gap.
