Hi,
Thought it was agreed we weren't going to give any thoughts about CHSIB untill June, as we will have had a decent chance to have a proper listen to it???? Heat xxx |

I must have missed that conversation too. What is that about, not discussing CHSIB till June? Maybe I'm being obtuse, but I think Meat wants us to discuss the album. I''m not trying to be difficult Heat, just don't understand. At my house I've heard it plenty enough to form an opinion...I think it's GREAT!
As for the purpose of this thread, I think Meat is certainly entitled to share his opinion as far as comparison to BOOH, after all it is his work. And anyone else is free to voice theirs. It's just not how I view music, comparisons are interesting, granted, but I can't compare these 2 albums myself. I love both albums and appreciate them for what they are. As I do the rest of Meat's work. I'm weird, one of my favorite songs is "Amnesty", no one else seems much entranced by that. I like what Meat does, I'm definitely not an unbiased observer. This occurred to me when I was listening to "Do It". Done by anyone else I probably wouldn't give it a second listen. But since it is Meat I kinda like it, because it is so different for him. Never going to be one of my favs tho, hard to beat Testify, LYOL and I think both covers are superb. JMHO, hope I didn't offend anyone, T |

I've listened to it right through dozens of times, so I think I'm in a position to comment.
Not many people would say that CHSIB is better than BOOH. Neither would I. The comparison issue (Jim/non-Jim) comes up a lot and I am frankly bored with it. I'm sure many people will agree that Jim is the best (or one of the best) songwriters in the world, and that he's in a league all his own. So I think we can put that issue to rest. I think its more useful to compare non-Jim stuff with other non-Jim stuff. But like I said, the comparison issue bores me so I don't do it a lot. |

I also thought 'what is this' when I started to read this topic. But at Tyre Tracks we rate songs. That's very hard to do for me always, because it seems to change how I feel about a song, depending on my mood. I was one of the people who asked to wait with this rating for a while. White of High is the person who does all the work there (avarages) and it seemed better not to give 'points' at this time.
But it perfectly allright to talk about these beautiful songs. As a matter of fact, I think we should! As far as this question 'which one is better' that has never been interesting to me, because I just enjoy both. I am focussed on CHSIB these days, like many of you. I can only say, to me, it's just as impressive and I truly feel, it could do just as great. Maybe not sales-wise, but these are different times. I think CHSIB could be an album many, many people will still play in 20 years time. So, if I had to answer this original question, I'd say they are on the same level! Great day to you, Mariella |

Hi Heat,
Yes, with that 'husband' of yours, I wouldn't get much sleep either But I quite understand why you said this, because the question was asked at Tyre Tracks and we did talk about not rating songs there. But now this topic has been 'moved' to General Messages, and here we can talk about it all we want!! At the moment I am listening to YRIWR, very hard to 'get into' that one. If this was a song by anyone else I would have stopped weeks ago. But I do think the voice is great, so I am trying to get from 'good' to 'I love this one'! Good to have you back! Mariella |

Thanks Mariella
I, personally am having real problems listening to Do It!!. To be honest, i think it's the worst song on CHSIB. i'm listening to it, and all i can think about is that advert for Huggies Nappies, you know, the one that says 'do it..do it..do it in Huggies' It's doing me head in!!! I think it's totally wrong for Meat, but that's just my opinion. Like Mariella says, the only reason i'm listening to it, is cos it's a Meat song, but i really dislike it. Maybe it'll grow on me Heat xxx |

I hope it will grow on you, Heat. We are both 'trying' and if we can't love it, at least we tried!!
I thought Do It, wasn't a song first time I heard it, just A LOT of noise! But, after 4(!) days, I found that I took it too serious. This song is FUN/ determination for me. Not a song I play every day, but at certain times I just LOVE it! Now, could someone please help me with YRIWR?? Maybe we should coninue this at CHSIB where MB has this great topic! Great day to you, Mariella |

This isn't a song rating.
There is just one question. Do You think that CHSIB is better than Bat. I think absolutely not. I like the songs. But I think other Meat albums are better than this one. There is one song I hate and that is Do It. I will move this to the CHSIB board, because this isn't a song rating. |

I do think personally that comparisons between Bat out of Hell and Couldn't have Said it Better are impossible to quantify.
Take B o o H recorded at what was to become the epitomy of Meat Loaf personified- B o o H is synomous with Meat - its always been a must have in every collection - Steinman and Meat loaf proved that beyond a shadow of a doubt that their collabaration was made in heaven. They always bring their own kind of magic to the songs. Could Have Said it Better although "different" in texture and feel still satisfies the need of bringing music and lyrics alive to us - I certainly couldn't state one was better than the other precisely because they are two totally different albums -production and music, but the lyrics basically remain the same offering songs that all can relate to sometime in their life but the - B o o H was I believe the epoch of Meat Loafs recording career |

I dont know about the rest of you but for me anyway, hearing a song live is the way it gets into my heart. I think its impossible to judge the album against one you have had in your life for perhaps 25 years. You know the songs word for word and have several live versions of them. We all know how good meat takes a song in a concert so i think all these CHSIB songs will have a different effect on people when they've heard them live and hopefully a new live cd is released!!??. Already i've heard people talk about tear me down being far better live than on the album, and i agree. lol, Lets wait to hear them live continuosly for 25 years and then come back with an opinion.
