Default 3 Bats Live CD to be released...

Just managed to bug the guys at Universal for some information and we've got the track listing and price!

Townsend Records - Meat Loaf

No information at the moment about anything else with the cd, but I'll keep on with it.

That would take 2 cds.

And the other songs may not be good enough quality to put on there....what works on dvd doesnt always work on audio.

Ohh it's on there!

I guess this is the tracklist we should have expected, primarily the new Bat III tracks with a few of the old ones thrown in, but in all honestly I really was hoping for the full setlist. Frying Pan was amazing, hearing Land Of The Pigs live completely converted me to that song, Gimme Shelter was brilliant...it could be better but so long as R&R Dreams is on there I'll keep it shut!

hmmm.....not so thrilled about the tracklist

if they dont offer anything new (pigs live, unreleased b-sides) or at least put the whole set list on there, i dont see any reason to buy this one.

i honestly don't understand why you were expecting the whole show??

It never happened with Melbourne and it doesnt make financial sense to the record company to produce a double disc.

Also if they were honestly going to only put songs from that one show then not all songs were strong enough for a cd

Even if there was no chance of getting the whole show there are songs that were stronger than those on the tracklist...though I guess there's songs that could never be missed out, like Paradise

i agree, as i assume we are talking about the exact same versions that appeared on the dvd then, yes i would have left some of those out and put others in, but as you said they needed the right balance of new and old songs. Some that have made it on to this cd i deleted from my rip cd as they didnt sound that great without seeing it too.

Some of the songs on there will be spot on - Bad For Good was brilliant, and you all know my opinion on R&R Dreams live - I'm just not sure that that tracklist is a true reflection of what we experienced in May. Not that I won't buy it

Good point, but for me personally as a buyer, this cd wouldnt have any value, as I could get the same result for free if I just ripped the audio tracks from the dvd.
If it was the whole show, we would have, let's say, a "professional rip", that might have been better than the dvd versions, but this way half of the show (we would get for free by ripping) is missing on this release, so the only reason for me to buy this one, would be if they added something new, like pigs or some of the unreleased b-sides.

short: I dont see any reason for anyone to buy this cd when the dvd with even more tracks is around.

Yes but remember that this CD wasn't put together with the knowledge that half of the people who would want it have already ripped the audio from the DVD, as far as they're concerned they're offering you a CD of 10 live tracks that you don't have and can't get elsewhere

yes, but if id have to decide which one to buy, if i saw a cd and a dvd of the same title, but the dvd had twice the number of tracks, I think itd be clear which one id buy.

especially as most people are able to rip the sound off the dvd anyway (with less or more effort lol)

If limited to only buying one then the obvious choice is to go for the DVD for twice as many tracks, but again the cd wasn't put together with the thinking that most people can and will rip the audio from the DVD, no one's meant to have done that!

I think this may be the reason for the delayed release, so that you dont have to choose which one, personally i dont think you can compare a dvd to a cd two completely different experiences...for example take the melbourne dvd and cd, some of the songs on the cd were taken from a different melbourne night than the one that made it to the dvd, there is a reason for that, because one works better being seen than the one that needs to be stronger vocally etc.

Ripping the audio is fine but it will never be as good quality as a cd so i cant really see the fact that some have ripped it affecting the sales too much.

Some vocals on the dvd just arent that great in certain songs and i see at least one on that list, will be interesting to see how good the tweaking is.

And Lucy if your looking for a representation of what we experienced in may i dont feel even the dvd does that, he should have recorded the show at wembley, the show overall was much better imo

Of what we each saw in May then I think we're all going to have different ideas of what would truly reflect the tour - for me the second night in Birmingham on May 16th was (in terms of vocals) possibly the most perfect show I have ever seen and I'd love a recording of it...I just think that of the setlist we had here there are songs that were consistantly brilliant which aren't on there

Bad For Good? That's probably the worst performance on the DVD!

Great to see AFL is there

I would guess they're trying to keep the cost down by not making it a double CD and including everything.

(assuming you're not being sarcastic then...) yes, there were two MSO shows which were picked at to make the DVD and CD.

AFL is probably one of the tracks I'd take off the CD if I'm honest. We've got plenty of live versions of this, the only way I'd choose it for the CD is if it was the updated version that we had from May onwards. The only positive point I can pull from putting AFL on there is that it's a record of the era of Meat performing it with Aspen, which I say with the point of view of a collector rather than thinking about any promotional gain AFL would bring to an album

Couldn't agree more. I guess from "their" point of view there was no point knowing that there was the release of the album, the tour and then a live DVD and CD, but it would have been a fantastic recording

From my experience, a live recording never truly captures the "being there" experience, rather it serves as a reminder (good or bad) of being there. There's been a number of releases of live shows both on CD and DVD by a number of artists (Meat included) where I can say "I was there" or I was at a show from that tourwhihc was pretty similar, and in all cases the recorded show merely acts a reminder. Personally I'd have preferred to see Gimme Shelter and/or Mercury Blues as the encore tracks on this upcoming CD, but I guess the time available on the CD and the possible quality of the audio recording are the factors here.

I very much liked Bad For Good, and preferred it to most if not all of the other tracks.
