Well I'm still confused about what's happening but from what I've read my personal view is: if someone's got a bootleg and is willing to share or trade then fair enough but if someone is trying to flog a bootleg then they should burn in hell!

However I think that if the artist (i.e.Meat Loaf in this case) did do more in getting demo's, live recording cd's, dvd's, videos etc etc etc out to the fans then bootlegs wouldn't become such a problem.

On a personal note if someone does have anything to trade then email me

Do many artists personally arrange, record, manufacture and distribute videos/dvds of live concerts? Because I would have thought this would normally be done by whichever recording company they are contracted to. And I suspect it's here the problem lies. Virgin put out a video of Bat2 which included live performances, but sadly Meat doesn't seem to generate wildly enthusiastic support from record companies now.

Meat was he says the first artist to push the idea of promotional videos, so I doubt it is anything to do with a lack of enthusiasm on his part. But he's also pointed out recently that record companies are reluctant to spend the considerable amounts of money involved in making promotional videos without a pretty cast iron assurance of masses of playtime, and that his music doesn't get that. I'm guessing they would want similar assurances of sales to meet the costs of production and distribution plus a good profit for themselves before they would put out live concert videos. I would buy one in a heartbeat, so would many here. But would some want copies rather than buy themselves? And how many are we? How many would sell?

At least someone's having a punt with the Oz concert. Interesting to see how well that sells worldwide .. perhaps a good result might lead to interest in putting out a Bat3 dvd? But I would have thought we should lay the whole issue of releasing live concert dvds at the door of the record companies and not the artist. Doubtless a live concert dvd of the teen idol of the moment will rake in the dough .. but whilst they're enjoying their year or two of fame their CD releases sadly will outsell Meat, and so I would guess would their concert videos/dvds. I suspect the same would be so of live concert recordings. Ultimately the record companies are interested in making significant profit. I really don't think this is down to Meat who adores movie making and pioneered music videos. On the other hand, whilst he's flogging his gollies off delivering a world tour I suspect he doesn't have the time, even if he had the inclination, to try to manage such a venture himself! :)

No they don't and I never mentioned Personally but I don't think it's beyond an artist not to turn round to their record company and say "Hey why don't we do a live recording of a show or put some demo's, acoustic versions etc or whatever to CD and if we can't sell them mainstream we could do it through the Official Fan Club"

Meat Loaf visits here regularly does he not?, so he should know that he could sell at least a few hundred copies of whatever and I've been told that most of his shows have been sold out so that would turn into a few thousand easily. That in itself would cover costs and at the very least, THE very least he'd (or whoever) would break even and the fans would get more Meat.

Who here has a CD-Writer? and who here has a DVD-Writer? and how cheap could a copy of whatever be made?. I'm not talking about a 1st class printed booklet with stories and lyrics, I'm just talking about a simple bogstandard disc that could quite easily be done on anyones computer at the very least.

I mean who wouldn't like to see : Surf's Up, Nowhere's Fast, Modern Girl, I'd Lie For You, Not a Dry Eye In the House and any other video he's done that's not available be put to disc of some sort? Hell I'd cut off a nut to see them.

Personally, I'm hoping Meat releases a Farewell Tour live cd at some point. I would probably cream myself if he did, but hey.

Maybe people wouldnt feel such a need to dabble with bootlegs if fans werent so deprived of official live Meat recordings... Given the number of shows that Meat has done over the years, the official release numbers are depressing... i say ROCK ON the LIVE DVD / CD from the Australian show!!

Take care,
Ewan :)

That sounds fabulous, Meat - can't wait!!!

And as for that woman in Scotland - she soo needs her head examined!!! I admire the way you completely make your songs your own - it'd be so boring for all of us, you too, if you sang your songs exactly the same way every single time.

Thank you Meat .. thanks for listening .. and for responding .. (and all this while flogging your gollies off too!) .. you'll know you have made many people very happy bunnies today :)

She may be a Stepford wife .. or perhaps from Village of the Damned? Those with ears and sense to appreciate what you do will always be thrilled that every show is fresh, creative and has something we haven't heard or seen ..

There's always something magic, there's always something new! ..

Perhaps she should listen to the words rather than the timing on the CD?

Time to trounce that toe-rag with the bootleg tape now?

Why would Meat want to make money off of his own live recordings?? He doesnt need the money. Bootleg copeis are illegal. I have a few imports myself which I loved! I dont know if they are considered bootlegs or not but they were sold in stores legally to my knowledge. I thought that taking recording devices into concerts was illegal anyway?? I am sure that a lot of people have gotten past security with those kinds of things but still... I dont even think in most places wether US soil or overseas you are allowed to have cameras to take pcitures are you?/

Will these be available to the US as well or only at shows in Europe? I had heard you didnt sound very good at Wolf Trap in Virginia back in Sept? I also had heard you fell of the stage. if I am not mistaken they arent exactly the biggest stages at that particular location las I havent been there in a while lol. Is it really true talent if any artist did it the same way live as they were recorded? Man of Steel for example I have not heard it live BUT without Pearl it couldnt possibly be the same. Just like with the song Testify you dont have the same type of background vocals touring with you as you do on the album recording.. etc etc. DUH right?

Re: tapes from uk shows

Oh my lord, Meat!! Having all those recorded shows to look forward to has filled me with sooooo much happiness!! Thank you (yet again) for all the smiles!! (Big hugs for Meat Loaf!) THANK YOU!! But how on earth do you get these recordings into the record stores when your record company seemed to have little erm... motivation when it came to getting your ONE studio album / single into the stores? Maybe take x1 record company monkeys ass - remove his or her finger + insert x1 large rocket style firework?

Im not ass crawling, but what i hear from this tour is simply awesome... Meats voice, the band... everything sounds and feels like it is going much, much further than it ever has before. After hearing Bat, Anything For Love and even CHSIB from the live bonus disk from the Australian album - they make the studio recordings sound like they are lacking and restrained. All i ever listen to these days are the live versions from the CHSIB tour.

Take care
Ewan :)

Aye, and she even had the cheek to claim she's been a Meat fan since the 70s. If this really was the case, she'd be well experienced on the fact that Meat doesn't sing the same way twice.

I wonder how these will be distributed? Through normal retail outlets? .. Or perhaps via fan club on internet? Will Meat's new website be open by April? I seem to recall reading that Turnstyle, who will be running his new fanclub on the web offer this kind of service .. and it would open availability up internationally without the need for expensive distribution in normal retail outlets.

And I've just heard from eBay that they have removed the illicit recording of the Newcastle concert. From the still used in the listing it looks like the person who recorded it wasn't even in the front row! eBay are sometimes painfully slow to act on this kind of thing, but this time they got their cyber bum in gear :)

WAHEY!

This is the best news I have had all year - firstly, that Meat is back "on board" if you see what I mean, secondly that I have been PRAYING for more live recordings for years, thirdly Meat must have seen all the support for him from this board.

I'm sure I saw a mention of a DVD in this thread somewhere, but I can't find it now. If it's true, I might just cry from JOY!

ROCK ON FIREBALL!

Oh, theres that thread about the DVD (next one!)

Great news - where did you hear about it?

Sell it publicly, Meat. Like "Live Around the World". It's not fair for just the privileged few to get these cds, just like it's not fair for MLOIFC to get first pick on this and that. It's not fair. At least the Steinfans are equal, and not laid out in ranks - first class, second class, all that nonsense. Please release it publicly.
