How can you not like Mercury Blues? Are you talking the studio effort or Meat's take on the song in general? I'd put the performance on the MSO DVD in my top Meat live recordings any day.

You forgot Los Angeloser. But it's not so much the songs I referred to. Do you remember this: http://www.mlukfc.com/forums/showthread.php?p=468003? That's what you said about people who said they didn't like a song.

I just think the lyrics are so stupid!! I don't get why anyone would do this song, and I don't get why someone wrote a song about a crap car sorry that's just how I feel about it.

Do you know when and by whom it was written? Obviously a large number of musicians have a different point of view, otherwise it wouldn't have been covered that often.

I like Mercury and thought it was a nice surprise on CHSIB. I liked how they credited in the booklet "on the bumper". I was like is that about until I got to the last tracks and found out about the hidden song. As it was at that time perhaps going to be Meat's last album I think he wanted to go out with a fun rock song hence decided to put it on after Forever Young.

Not all songs need to have deep and meaningful lyrics. Compare a top notch, three course meal to a decent plate of fish and chips; both excellent in their own way.

No I didn't forget about Los Angeloser I do like that song I know you may think I'm contradicting myself but the things I said about it were about how much better the other songs are on the album accept Like A Rose, and that it was a bad choice for a single when you have songs like Song Of Madness, and Peace On Earth. And sorry but opinions change

Hmmm I'm not sure about that (though I do know what you mean about the final pan-shot it's a stunning image of Meat at the end of Bat), during the CHSIB tour it emerged Meat was going to record Bat 3 (WITH Jim at that point) and he was talking about a two night stand type show thing across several cities to perform all Bat songs back to back. During the early months of 2004 he was at times annoyed with the reviews (mostly from here I think) and did threaten to quit but I doubt he really thought MSO was the last Bat performance ever.

Meat seems to go up and down in his thought process after shows but I'm not so sure he thinks those kinda negative things during shows. If you listen to the commentary track on MSO you can hear his excitement at getting out there to tour again which he did in 2005 even though there wasn't a record yet.

Yes it was written in 1949 by K. C. Douglas and Robert Geddins.

Did you just copy that from Wikipedia or do you really know the background to the song?

i can listen to mercury blues, but it doesn't move me.. i wouldn't go searching to hear it, but if i heard it, i wouldn't skip it. (though its VERY VERY rare chsib gets an outing from me)

bad for good, i first heard on audio cassette on the meat loaf and friends tape, and i liked it... got the bad for good cd, and still liked it... never loved it though... its not a particularly great song in my opinion.. and if i listened to bat 3 much (which i dont) it would usually get skipped.

less and less since 07 on... theyre becoming more like a rare treat rather than the non stop staple they were... purely because the more recent stuff hasn't moved me as much as the earlier stuff... and the earlier stuff i played to death and it needed a rest (or i did)

currently dead ringer in the car though for about 6 days

I really like the way the loudness works on modern recordings. To me, it makes all the instruments and voices clear and distinct with none of the "fuzziness" of eg bat 2. on hctb I do find that this makes the first 7 songs quite exhausting to listen to as everything is so in your face.

But firstly, that to me is just part of what I like about the album and it suits both the songs and the story.

Secondly, it makes me appreciate dyels all the more, for the contrast and the brief welcome respite before the rocking starts again.

Bad For Good is a good song. None of my favorites but good. Could sound fantastic with proper arrangement, vocals and production.

That's what I suspected. Explains why you complain about the "stupid lyrics" and "don't get why someone wrote a song about a crap car".

about mercury blues, trying to make this related to 3 bats as possible, the 3 bats DVD version i can see why youd hate it.

But i like it to the extent it should have been given a rest from 2007-2008.

The writing is great!

I mean you cant compare it to the writing in Steinman shit But its still excellent.

mercury's weakest moment was on the 3 Bats DVD. I really think it was unnecessary.

Many don't like it, but I personally think it's a decent show and shows some good/average highlights from a "fluctuating in quality" tour. Obviously I would have preferred RAH on DVD (who wouldn't?!) but then there wouldn't have been any space for a cameraman from where many of us were standing.

Let's forget that DVD that shows Meat in a pitiable state (and hope for a better, new DVD). Let's assume you had unlimited means to re-record Bad For Good. What would a perfect version of it sound like?

Jims version Instrumentation + bat 3 vocal (and repeated riffs). hands down.

So you don't agree with Steve6 who thinks that the drums on Jim's BFG sucked and sound like pots and pans? I don't get what he is on about to be honest. I love the instrumentation and drum sound on Jim's whole album. For 1981 it's a fantastic production that still sounds modern to this day imo.
