Hi stephen. Ok, first of all you need to install the XP system backup utility. Insert your Windows XP Home Edition CD and using Explorer, go to the following folder: CD-ROM Drive:\VALUEADD\MSFT\NTBACKUP In that folder there is a file called Ntbackup.msi Double click on it and a wizard will start adn work through the installation. When it is complete, you can run the Backup Utility by going to Start->All Programs->Accessories->System Tools->Backup When is starts, click on the advanced mode option. Select the Job menu adn select New. A set of checkboxes are shown, click on the one labelled System State Check the Backup destination is set to the right place eg. CD-RW or wherever! Choose Start Backup. This will backup your registry and all system/startup files. Any problems PM/IM/Email me!! |

Hi, I am having a problem with MSN Messenger on my computer and was wondering if anyone here could help.... When anyone tries to sign in a thing comes up saying : "sorry we could not sign you in because the sign-in name you entered does not exist or your password is incorrect".... But that's not true! There's 5 of us in this house and it says that for everyone - there's nothin wrong with our sign-ins or our passwords, so what's it playing at? We have tried uninstalling and re-installing, but that hasn't worked either. We cant get into hotmail at all using explorer either..... Anyone know what the problem might be, and how to fix it?! Thank you!!!! Louise |

If I'm not mistaken, WindozeXP supports restore points. Wouldn't it be more simple to just set up a new restore point? What about simply exporting the registry keys affected by the changes? | |

Aargh any of you two geniuses know why my home page keeps going to a different one. I'm on freeserve and home page always set to open on it, but when I go to Internet Options to clean out cookies and temp files, it's always changed to a different one. A friend gave me a link to Start Page Guard, and I sorted it etc., but when I booted up this morning, it had gone back from freeserve to the other one. Have tried everything I can think of (basically I can sort anything if I sit and take my time) but this has got me really stumped! I've run virus scans etc., run the Ad aware programme I have but it's still doing it. Any help appreciated. |

Caz, May I ask what the other page it reverts to is? It could be some software you've installed that wants you to buy more stuff. Failing that it could be something in your start-up programs changing it all the time. Chris is probably better suited to answering that. |

Best bet is to remove the software as it cna be used by viruses!! Open 'Add/Remove Programs' in the Control Panel. Select the 'My Search Bar' (MySearch variant), 'MyWay Speed Bar' (MyWay) or 'My Web Search Bar' (MyWeb) entry and click 'Remove'. For the MyWeb variant, be sure to also remove 'Fun Web Products Easy Installer'. You can then reset your home page (Internet Options->General->Start Page) if it has been changed, and search settings (Internet Options->Programs->Reset web settings). |

I am looking at going onto broadband. I've been told that if I do I will need a firewall as well as antivirus software. Any recommendations as my antivirus software is due to be renewed this month. Was looking at Amazon at McAfee and Norton and they seem to have so many positive/negative responses that I'm very confused |

Personally I use Norton and think it's great, but McAfee are well lmwon company too, and provide much the same facilities as far as I know. Everywhere I've worked has used McAfee for its virus protection. Either will do the job admiably. Andy |
