I wonder what Jim said about it at the Hall of Fame. Are we meant to take this as a more definitive "it's happening" (as in there's actual dates and plans set), or is just talk like usual?

It's true. Meat will be playing both Peter Pan and Hook whilst Patti will be performing as Wendy. The Dream Engine is going to be the band along with Rob Evan on bagpipes. Jim Steinman will play the accordion for 30 minutes whilst people take to their seats whilst acrobats will be riding motorbikes which are on fire down the isles when these are empty. Venue is apparently the O2 arena in London, there was some doubt with that as it is a bit small for this type of show. Expect to hear something like 20 new songs. Opening night will be 21st of December 2012 to coincide with the end of the world. I got all this information from Susan, Mr Egg and Steven Stuart so it's definitely a go-er.

Any idea on ticket prices? Do you think there will be Meet and Greet packages?

Sorry but thats not funny at all. For whatever reasons it hasn't happened yet, I don't think that ridicule is fair. We have no idea what is going on or what is going to happen. Yes it has been seven years and still nothing. Doesn't mean it won't happen. Only time will tell.
My personal opinion is that it will only happen with Meat involved. Looks like maybe theres a possibility of that so lets wait and see.

My staple answer when the subject of the musical comes up is that Jesus Christ will make his debut in the west end or on Broadway before the Bat musical.

But a few things have got me thinking.

• Jimmy being inducted into the SHOF has put his name back in peoples minds.
  
  
• Meat & Jim seeming to be getting on great at the event, which could mean that he and Jimmy could be happy to work together (in part at least) on the project.
  
  
• Constantine (a guy i'm told has theatrical connections) joins Meat on stage to sing Bat at the award show.
  Would be a very high profile way to intoduce the guy who is to star in the show.
  
  
• Jim mentioning the musical after years of silence.

So the time would be perfect for the musical to get to a flying start.

It's a little worrying though that there hasn't been any actual news.

I'm very doubtful, but perhaps this is a sign that things are about to start happening.

In fact, the time is so right, I think this is the last chance this musical has got of happening.

Its easy to ridicule it - especially given that all the songs have been written already ... but just think how long Bat Out Of Hell took to conceive, write, produce and release - 5 years ? - so the moral is - don't be negative ... ! If it does happen, it WILL be a masterpiece.

It's seemed to me that the London proposal didn't get the financial backing it needed, not even after the full page ad in the Evening Standard some while back, and with the economy as it is, it seems less likely. It occurred to me when I read the story it might be an attempt to try and raise money for the musical in the US. Again, I suspect the climate is not favourable.

Maybe it would take Meat doing another album of Steinman songs culminating with the musical opening. I don't think it will ever happen without Meat on board.
Even at the songwriters awards they had Meat over Bonnie Tyler, because Meat is the driving force for Jim's songs, always has been and always will be.

I'm not ridiculing the project (how could I, I've not seen it?), just the people who claim to have (family) links to the project feeding false lies time and time again, which they claim are promises of things to come, this has been going on for 6 years. If people believe it will still happen that is fine by me but don't go telling everyone horse shit such as Steinman and co are trying to find a venue when they are not etc. Who put out the evening standard ad? It could have been a rich fan without links to Steinman for all we know, even so it is quite a few years ago now. The only thing Steinman has written since his ideas about such a project back in 2006 are some things about politicians he disagrees with. There is no need to be secretive about a project like this. Not to the extent that some people claim they have been. In my own personal opinion I believe Steinman has retired. To me it makes no sense to try to revive a Bat out of Hell concept musical when Warner Brothers couldn't even see a justification in a proper Batman one, which surely is always going to gain more interest, certainly with the new Christopher Nolan movies around. I do not believe the Bat out of Hell "franchise" is worth $50 million. It simply does not have that kind of appeal. Even "Dance of the Vampires" needs to resort to... yes vampires to gain interest. The best chance would have been to revive a Batman musical in the mid 2000s in my opinion. It seems like a more interesting project to me and already had new songs.
I definitely think Bat out of Hell has lost a lot of mass appeal in the last decade or so and I doubt even Meat Loaf could help to change that to the extent to allow for Steinman to get funding for his ideas, as great as they may be. Not even all the hard core Meat Loaf fans around the world could make the show profitable I believe, and then you are talking about a show, at a fixed venue, in one city with 8 performances per week at at least £50 per ticket, 1000 seats to fill, having to run for around 18 months at least to gain some sort of profit. Hmmm. It may sound extremely negative but I feel I am being realistic. Sorry.

Perhaps if he teamed up with Andrew Lloyd Webber again and named it something like The Dark Peter Pan. I feel it would require recycling of a more popular/current brand rather than the recycling of songs really.

I think this is the rub. In my view it would arguably have had its best chance in terms of paying its way in London, where it would be accessible to an audience of fans drawn from all over the UK and from Europe to get started. But even then any musical needs to have a very broad appeal to sustain it for that length of time. It's not simply about its worth in musical terms, it's about bottom line economics in a notoriously difficult industry, and filling those seats night after night for a long time.

Perhaps if he teamed up with Andrew Lloyd Webber again and named it something like The Dark Peter Pan.

(I think those who have referred to Meat have perhaps been thinking more about his drive and determination to bring any project to fruition rather than his name as a draw btw. It would certainly need a drive as weighty as Meat's to make it happen in my view, but whether he could commit to it as wholeheartedly now as he did getting BOOH out into the world is another matter. He still has music he wants to deliver, TV and film he wants to get into the world. He is a performer rather than a producer, and I can't help but feel were he to shift into producing or directing it would be film that called him. Just my thoughts.)

You might be onto something there. Peter is still 18 but Wendy is 38, so I could imagine Patti playing Wendy and Meat playing Hook. Not sure who would play Peter. I'd pay good money to see that show.

Also, going by the 1988 tour, MASCULINE could fit into the show quite nicely. Sung by hook, hes telling Wendy (whose captive) how attractive and manly he is. :)

As Meat gets eaten by the giant crocodile, he sings Heaven Can Wait before the crocodile devours him whole.
