Default 30 years Ago Today

Thirty Years ago today in 1982 i went to see my first Concert, i was 13 years old and went to see Meat Loaf at the Birmingham NEC, a life changing event that inspired me to become a musician and sound engineer in Los Angeles CA...

Thanks Meat!

Somewhere around that era, there's a video where the than NLE played Come In The Night . I believe its Paul Jacobs on piano along with Ted Neeley singing an excerpt of Steinman's "How Do You Bury The Skull Of Your Country."
Cool stuff!

side note: My brother witnessed Neeley in a very recent performance of Jesus Christ Superstar.

On a similar theme...

16 years ago today I saw my first ML concert at Newcastle Arena, I was 10. Funny to think that that one day changed the course of my life. Seen him countless times since, and through Meat I have the most wonderful friends, some of which really are like family, and I'm about to marry one of them.

Good job I went really huh?!

i have been in the music biz for a long time so my memory may be a little cloudy...
Anyway i remember this and it may not be the exact order but i will give it a shot, somewhat similar i think to the Wembley 82 Video, pretty sure there was no promised land...

Neverland Express opened up with come in to the night/revvels begin
Bat out of Hell
Took the words
Dead Ringer
Read em and weep
Im gonna love her
All revved up
paradise
Gimme Shelter
Two outa 3
Revved up reprise

Wow way to many to mention...a couple jump out

After the 82 show i had to meet this guy, i went to the Apollo in MAnchester in 84 for a meat show, i went early and ran into Bob Kulick, it was my Birthday so he said come on in and gave me full access to the dressing room and even took me on the stage and showed me his guitar rig, i had just started learning so he showed me how to play Dead Ringer and Jump the Gun, just an awesome guy, he took me to the dressing room where Meat was, like an idiot i had about 30 LPs i wanted him to sign...Meat said "you want me to sign all of these? and the bootlegs" and i said "yes i do".....and so he did.....

more to come when i get time if anyone is interested, i have seen Meat over 60 times i am sure, also met him and the "old" band members numerous times.

Again let me know if you want more stories, i dont want to come across as trying to bragg at all, maybe this can be my way of documenting all theses incredible stories.

Good point

By 84 Meat would have brought out Stoney & Meat Loaf, Bat, DR, MATLAF, BA, & HOOH. Even with special editions and bootlegs, i've no idea how it could ammount to anything near 30 LP's

It'll be my 10 year anniversary on 29th July.
Will have to have a Meat day

So as someone said earlier you do meet friends for life like this, i met my best friend at that show at the Apollo in MAnchester and we have been mates ever since, we even moved to the USA togetther, he in Florida and me in LA,

So after that show we had this bright idea to go to EVERY meat show on the next tour, so we did, every show on the Lost boys Tour and the 20/20 tour, i dont know how we found the time and money but we did!! too many great stories but the some of the brief highlights were.

Leslie using us as Body guards to get to the tour bus, why? i dont remember

Reading festival....Meats bus drives past us as we were outside the venue, he pulls in past security and tells the bus driver to stop, he gets out and tells us to get on the bus, we go in and get the passes for the day and hang with everyone...

A kiss on the cheek from one of the Goffs sisters!!

Steve Buslowe asking our opinion on the set list all the time, Steve was the nicest guy and ALWAYS had time to talk with us, one day walking around in London we actually just bumped in to Steve on the Subway...

Seeing many many many sound checks with different versions of songs.

Hearing Special Girl live (Birmingham i think)

Meeting George Borowski the guitar tech who is the guy that comes on at the end of the Wembley 82 video for the jam, we did not know it but we already know him from a band in MAnchester that we used to see, great guy, his nickname is "Guitar George" and yes that song is supposed to be about him......

There is so much to remember it just impossible, but know this, the band, Meat and his wife at the time Leslie were always gracious and pleasant, we met Andy K somewhere on these travels also....

Next we went to the states were we saw meat and jim perform heaven can wait..

more to follow
