Half hearted - what twit wrote that. Anyone with an ounce of sense can see that you give 110%+ in all your performances. Maybe the voice might be a bit off sometime but 18 shows a month is bound to take its toll.
4 or 5 shows a month - you could walk it.

Ignore them all - they've got jelly for brains.

Looking foward to Manchester on 17 December.

We've seen you on Tour since 1982 Meat, don't let these morons get the better of you. We can't think of any other performer who puts so much into their shows and provides the energy, commitment and quality you do. You rock and always will.

Bums on seats is what it's about (in the UK a bum on a seat is a good thing!)

People vote with their feet - 400,000 ticket sales tells its own story - see you on Tour, we know you'll be just grrrrrrrrreat.

Hi Meat, whoever said Half Hearted must be braindead, the shows I have been to are .... there is no words to discribe, because they are out of this world. My girlfriend first saw you in Manchester in 97, and she was blown away. She has been to many concerts because she likes a variety of Music and to her and me also, nothing even comes close to yours, and those words come from the heart, I can't wait till the 13th November, to be blown away again. ROCK ON FIREBALL

Meat, if you're half-hearted, why have you been able to sell out most of the venues for this tour?

I don't care about the quality of your voice either, it's the heart and passion that you put into your work. It's clear to everyone how much you like performing, don't let the muppets tear you down :)

I have an idea the half-hearted remark may have been in a review posted on the OIFC board .. but I wouldn't swear to it. But you don't have to stray from here to find criticisms about the same playlists I fear. Meat makes a fair point though .. if anyone doesn't like his performance, or the fact that like most people on tour he has a set list which doesn't change every night, why do they go if they are just going to complain? Leave the tickets for fans who know what to expect and are more than happy with that.

And like Sin, I don't tire of hearing the same list of songs on a CD. I appreciate there are songs which people will expect, and if I go to several concerts I will hear them again. Luckily I love Meat's performance, so I'm happy whatever he sings, and am perfectly content that I will hear pretty much the same songs at different shows in the tour. Each show will have something different, each will be the best Meat can be, and each will be a wonderful experience.

I go to spend an evening with Meat Loaf. How he chooses to delight me is up to him .. and he never fails :) If he suddenly said "Hell .. I'm puffed. I'm just going to chat to you all for a bit and read you some extracts from Wind in the Willows" I'd be happy. I can go home and listen to all the songs .. but to hear him talk and joke is a magic which is not repeated .. and I know he'd bring Mole and Ratty to life on the stage

I don't think the post was from a review on the OIFC, that review didn't mention a half-hearted performance. I think it may be a post on this site that may be the culprit.

JMHO,

Jules

And Meat NEVER gives less than 125%! I saw 4 shows this summer and each show was different from the others and Meat gave his all.

Hi Meat

The idea that your performances are only "half hearted" is absolute bullsh**t !!! It really pisses me off that someone would even suggest such a thing

This past September, I travelled 5 hours to go to your concert at the Mohegan Sun. A lot of people, including my Father, thought I was crazy, considering I was going to the show the following Saturday night in Atlantic City :) He couldn't figure out why I would want to go to the same concert twice in one week ....

But what he didn't realize is that they were both two totally different shows .... from the level of energy in the audience, to the theatrics and stories, to your interaction with the fans and the band ....

Ok let's do a comparison here between the two concerts I went to :

(a). Were the songlists the same ? Yes (with the exception of Frying Pan).
(b). Did you sound the same ? Yes -- brilliant both nights
(c). Did you give more than 150% at both shows? Yes.

(d). Were the theatrics different ? Yes.
(e). Was the interaction with the audience different ? Yes.
(f). Was your level of energy the same ? Yes.

(g). Was I disappointed ? ABSOLUTELY NOT
(h). Would I go see you again ? IN A HEART BEAT

If I just want to hear you sing, I could stay home and listen to the CD on the stereo (or in the car if I hadn't worn out my CD player ).

The bottom line is I go to watch you perform the songs ... you said yourself that each show is like a great play, and I just sit back and enjoy each act while I sit there waiting to see how it ends :)

Here's an example for you ... Paradise By The Dashboard Light.
Although it will always be one of my favorites .... but it's a song that I have to watch you perform to enjoy it the most. Everytime I see it, it's totally different, and I enjoy it even more ... from being the "other woman" during the makeout scene in New Brunswick last year, to watching you and Patti having a ball with it this past September :)
So if your performances were "half-hearted" ... would you be able to keep Paradise as fresh and as much fun as you have for the past 25 years? I don't think so.

Oh and if you didn't care about your fans ..... would you take the time out of your busy schedule and talk to us on the forum? Probably not. But the fact that you answer our questions and get involved in the discussions whenever you can shows a true concern for your fans. Having the opportunity to talk to you really means a lot to me.

The bottom line is .... you can't please all of the people all of the time.
Please don't be so hard on yourself. I know it's easy for me to say, but instead of thinking about that 1 person who for some reason didn't like one of your shows, think about the other 49,999 or more who were there and had the time of their lives :)

Those are the ones, like myself and the majority of people here on the forum, that will keep coming back to your shows and continue to love and support you no matter what !

Now it's time for me to watch that Mexican concert on DirectTV once again

Thank you for everything
Love you always
Vicki

Dear Meaton't let one person get you down. I have been a fan for quite a few years, but this concert is the first one I have seen live. I have seen some other performers who also did a good job, but none that bring the energy and enthusiam to a show the way you do. I saw the show in Hutchinson Kansas at the State Fair. I felt bad for you because of the setting (a stage in the middle of cow dung central) and not a lot of people there. I thought to myself, well here we go, he will probably be mortified with the turnout and give a good performance, but...What I got that night knocked my socks off.Let me say that your professionalism and energy and emotion were impressive.I have never before seen a show like yours and never will again (unless I am lucky enough to see you live again!)My entire family loves your music. Yours is the only music that my husband and I agree on. My kids absolutely LOVE the new CD. They are four and five and boy do they have good taste!I guess what I am trying to say is, don't let one person's opinion of your performance upset you. Those of us who are true fans love your music. We also love your energy and your ability to connect with an audience. We all feel that we know you when we leave a show. We also feel like you have known us for a short time.GOOD JOB MEAT! You are truly one of a kind!!!!LoveMichelle Knolesksbat

Default Who do we Lynch?

Oh mighty Meat,

Do not be concerned with the jibberish of idiots. Since the Bat II tour here in the grand old land of OZ I have been to your shows. They have all been brilliant. So much so, when I go to other concerts I always leave and comment, "it was good, but Meat Loaf went for 3 hours, and he rocked more". You are the best showman I have seen. Your concerts are not just a bloke up there to sing his songs, make some money from a tour and get the hell out of there. Your shows have meaning, and the song selection makes sence. It shows a level of thought well above that of your normal concert.

If you can advise me as to who is talking this crap (can I say crap here? I note that you can say shit, but not bloody.....Anyway I digress) I would be more than happy to start a lynch mob and dispatch them back into hell

I got my Tickerts for Brisbane on the 28/2/2003 and I cannot tell you how excited I am. I cannot wait

So meat Keep plugging away, there will always be those who seek to pull you down. but it is important to remember that they are usually those who are jealous of your huge talant and ability to sing that song just right.

Default I saw that "half-hearted" comment

It was followed by a post by that "tribute" singer.

I know you want your shows to be perfect, and that's why you take these people seriously, but you shouldn't do that, because

They're just jealous!

You're the best, Meat. You make the world a better place.

Love, Kathy

The review to which you refer was critical, and did refer to Meat's voice negatively, but I don't believe the reviewer accused him of a half-hearted performance, nor of being dismissive of his fans; it said he gave one hell of a show.

Someone else who had attended the same show disagreed, and I would query anyone saying it was a great show but "your voice was ****", however halfhearted was not a term used by that particular reviewer.

Personally, when Meat feels he's been carved up I think it's great that so many people show support for him and that we tell him just how much we appreciate all he puts into a show, that we know his exacting demands on himself, that we know how much he cares for his fans, and that he never disappoints us.

I'm not sure that singling someone out as the perpetrator and opening the door to a war between the boards is useful. Smeg is imo hyper-critical, expresses himself bluntly, and I often disagree with him. But I don't remember him saying Meat didn't care for his fans, and he praised the overall performance at Las Vegas. Nor to my recollection did he complain about the set list not changing.

Yes Beerman, I appreciate what you said :)

Just this could so easily become a board war which I think helps nobody and sets fans against each other .. I know you weren't advocating that .. although I would hate to see someone strung up for something he didn't say

Really well thats a first then because all I've seen him post for months are negative criticisms bordering on abusive. Mind you I suppose the fiddler will change his tune as the UK dates become closer

I know it was Smeghead - I didn't "infer it was anyone else."
The "Oh dear" reply was a snide thing to say. From reading their posts, I have formed the opinion that these two are cut of the same cloth - they purport to be fans, but then proceed to snipe away at Meat.

In the interest of the truth...
Once and for all, Smeghead did NOT use the term half-hearted or complain about the setlist not changing. This has been stated several times here. He and Meat had a discussion on the OIFC, since deleted, but he did NOT use those terms. I may disagree w/ Smeghead on many things, but let's do our best to keep things true and honest.

So someone said what they said and Meat responded. I appreciate his response and it truly shows how much he does care about the fans.

People are entitled to their opinions, however wrong. No, I'm not telling who posted the remarks Meat referred to, but it's on this site. What's the point? The statements have been discussed fully here already. What are some after....Carnivale justice?

I'd suggest take your time and energy and watch the first 7 episodes of Carnivale, which star Meat's daughter Amanda. They will be rerun on HBO November 2nd. She's great!

My rant for today,
T
