LA Earthquake - Meat????

Its been on Sky News and I wondered if Meat and his family lives around that area of LA. If so, I hope his family are okay. I know at the minute no one is to be reported as injured or killed.

Plus if anyone from here lives there, I hope all is okay......
I didn't know so I thought I'd ask...

An earthquake measuring 5.4 has caused buildings to shake across a wide area of southern California in the US.

The epicentre of the quake was 29 miles (46km) south-east of central Los Angeles, near Chino Hills in San Bernardino County, officials said.

The quake was felt as far south as San Diego, witnesses say, but so far there are no reports of casualties or damage.

The US Geological Survey initially said the tremor measured up to 5.8, but later downgraded its size.

The BBC's Peter Bowes in Los Angeles said the quake initially felt like a rolling motion - followed by a sudden shaking sensation that lasted about 10 seconds.

Pictures fell to the ground and some people reported cracks in the walls of their homes.



"It was dramatic. The whole building moved," said Los Angeles County sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore, who was in the sheriff's Monterey Park offices east of Los Angeles.

Many other buildings swayed across central Los Angeles and office workers quickly poured out onto the streets.

"We had forgotten what a big earthquake felt like, at least I did," said seismologist Kate Hutton.

"It's a drill for the big one that's going to happen someday."

There have been no reports of power cuts in the area, although telephone services were disrupted because of a surge in demand on the network, witnesses reported.

More than 20 aftershocks were reported following the quake, the strongest measured at 3.8.

In 1994, a 6.7 magnitude earthquake in Northridge, California, killed 72 people, injured another 9,000 and caused $25bn (£12.5bn) worth of damage in the area.

Meat lives outside LA, northwest I believe, but definitely not near the epicenter of the earthquake, as that was south-south east of LA.
It was a small quake per se for them; enough to scatter groceries off shelves, do some cracking of older buildings, and shaking of loose items and people's nerves. Of course, this starts again the speculation of when the Big One is due, something they and the rest of the US have been living with especially since the Northridge Quake in early 1994.

Earthquake, Broken Rib Don't Faze ALICE COOPER - Aug. 7, 2008

While Alice Cooper was filming a promotional film on July 29 for his new "Along Came A Spider" (SPV) album at Linda Vista Hospital, an abandoned facility in East L.A., a 5.4 earthquake shook Los Angeles to its very core. He happened to be choking a nurse at the time. The 5.4 quake was the strongest since the devastating 1994 Northridge quake, shaking Alice, the band, and everyone on the set (including director Piggy D) into a stunned silence. The epicenter was in nearby Chino Hills.

"The floor started moving. Whoa, this is more powerful than I thought! I hope they keep it! You can’t get special effects like that," enthused Cooper, who had just wrapped production on the film that features lengthy portions — up to two minutes each — of "Vengeance Is Mine", "(In Touch With) Your Feminine Side" and "Killed By Love", all from the new album.

The current "Psycho-Drama" tour — approximately 100 shows from July 5 to December 4 — is still as physical as ever. In Redmond, Oregon last week, fans watched fascinated as Alice took a violent fall. Few noticed just how crushing the thud was. Most figured it was part of the show. Alice, hurting, continued with the performance and with a few performances after that, negating any suggestions to get himself checked out. Finally, giving in to those whose job it is to keep him healthy, he learned he had broken a rib and suffered ligament damage. Doctors advised him it would take three weeks of inactivity and rest to fully recover.

Fat chance. Cooper continues on tour, unrestrained.

So, not an earthquake, not a cracked rib, not ligament damage, can stop Alice from entertaining his loyal fans.

The show must go on indeed.
