Default Meat Loaf buys back own record collection

Just found this:

Meat Loaf buys back own record collection

Friday, 25th August 2006, 12:05
LIFE STYLE EXTRA (UK) - Meat Loaf is buying his entire record collection back off eBay.

The legendary rocker - who is in the UK promoting his forthcoming album - 'Bat Out Of Hell III' - had his own entire back catalogue stolen and all his favourite LPs by other artists stolen while he was moving house.

He told BANG Showbiz: "It was in the back of a removal van. The police arrested the driver for some reason and impounded the truck.

"While it was there someone broke in and stole my entire back catalogue of everything I had done - every single, every album - gone."

Now the 'Dead Ringer For Love' singer is trying to replace his collection by trawling the internetauction site.

He added: "I have managed to get most of it back. It's been expensive and time consuming and they might not be the exact same ones that were taken, but it's a start.

"It's kind of weird trying to buy back your own stuff too."

However, Meat Loaf - whose real name is Marvin Lee Aday - says not everything the thieves took was valuable.

The rocker revealed: "They also stole a box of hangers. Hangers? What the hell are they going to do with a box of hangers. I won't be trying to buy those back."

I seem to recall reading something quite a long time ago about Meat's record collection being stolen whilst he was moving house.

Thumbs down

Nightmare. I'd be devastated if my cd/record collection was stolen.

And hasn't Meat said he's lost other stuff in past moves as well? I seem to recall him saying that at some point. Maybe in the book?

Thanks for the article Diane

OK buddie!
What was stole was probably the demo, something that's irriplaceable and also this is Meat's life work, show some consideration, I am more than certain he wouldn't preach to you about your work so don't do it to Meat. Also I think he can decide for himself what quality to call his work!

Calm down, the person was only having a bit of a joke, I thought it was pretty funny anyway. It was a sarcastic comment he/she wasn't actually telling Meat what to do.

Anyway, it's quite shocking that someone would just steal stuff like that straight out of a removal van and I wish him well in tracking down all his stolen items.

You might be forgiven for assuming a new album was about to be released.

It's all great publicity.

What was stolen may or may not be a demo, and may or may not be irreplaceable, that is purely for Meat to know, and not an obsessed fan.

Tongue in cheek posts appear here with monotonous regularity, keep your shirt on. I didn't see an attack on Meat anywhere.

Good luck in your endeavours Meat.

Mike - I first heard about his record collection being nicked ages ago - over a year ago. So it is NOT publicity!

This thread brings back some fun memories.

When we had a m&g with Meat after a show at Wembley (Jan. 2004), Jules had a copy of the single "More Than You Deserve" for him to sign. He asked where she got it and said he'd been looking for it. Then explained about the robbery and losing his collection (plus hangers and towels ) and buying stuff on ebay.

J offered to give it to him, but he declined, not wanting to take a fan's cherished possession. J insisted and Meat kept insisting he couldn't accept it. This went back and forth until I started thinking to myself "she should stop arguing with him." Finally I came up with a solution, suggested Meat take the record and in return autograph a mini-frisbee for a friend. That satisfied him, deal done.

All in all, a memorable experience, especially finding out we were ed in Wembley when we went to leave. I'm sure Dottie, Rosie and Eva all have fond memories of that night too.

No offense, but is this yet another off-the-wall publicity stunt for BAT 3? I thought the last one had topped the cake

Hope he has gotten or will get it all back.

I agree about Blind Before I stop, not the entire album but a lot of it...that said i thought this was a place to have fun as well, think between here and Rockman a lot of that has been disappearing lately.

Yep ! Never cared for his solo stuff, but this one was quite interesting, and definitely the best. The original cover design was going to feature three guys, one playing guitar, other playing drums, and other on keyboards, floating in a cocktail glass. LOL

EDIT: I'm hoping they didn't make off with all the demo's Jim sent Meat for his original vision of BAT 3. Meat said he got about 15...

Yes, I know you were locked inside Wembley..... I was waiting outside to give Michelle a lift back home!!! Still, it was a laugh with her daughter and my friend as we sang and danced round the traffic cones while we waited!
