Default Jim's injunction against Meat

Right its just gone half two, feeling very tired but wanted to pose a question to the rest of you:

The song "Its all coming back to me now" sang by Celine Dion written by Jim Steinman, whilst randomly clicking around a few sites tonight i found out that Meat did originally want to record this song, but Jim had injunction put against him because he thought the song would be better sung by a woman.

Having pondered Jim's reasoning, then listening to the song a couple of times I'm not sure I reckon Meat could have possibly put a bit more passion into it?

Any way there's my question for the day going to get some shut eye, cheers,

Rich Scully

By the way not sure if this needs to be moved to Tyre Tracks - will let you decide nice admin people!

There is absolutely nothing wrong with Celine Dion. She sings the song well. If Meat Loaf were to sing it I think it would put a different sound to it.

The original one on 'Original Sin' CD is by far the best version I've heard!!

But I agree, the version by Pandora's Box is much better than Celine's version. I don't think her version is that bad, but it could have been a lot better.
As for Meat singing it: I hope it won't happen. Why? Let's face it, the only album it could appear on is BOOH3. And I want all new songs on that one. I don't need another version of IACBTMN, since there is already a 'perfect' version of it.

The injunction was nothing more than a rumour to the best of my knowledge.

Shuffling this over to TTaBH

When Celine did my song "It's All Coming Back To Me Now," she did a great vocal, but she didn't own it.

But I think Meat can sing a more perfect version of this song.

I have to go with Gerry and others on this one - I think the Pandora's Box version is the ultimate version. I simply can't imagine anyone doing it better, and that includes Meat. As for him refering to it as his song, it seems that I've heard him refer to Jim's songs that way before and it's a bit annoying in my book. I know I'm prejudiced toward songwriters, but I don't see how he can take the credit - credit for excellent versions of Jim's songs, yes; credit for the songs themselves, no.

As for the injuntion, I'm sure I've seen Jim refer to it somewhere - not that he isn't above a little hyperbole himself, but it wouldn't surprise me either. He has also refered to his songs as his "children" and I can imagine him going to that length to protect one of them.

Didn't know this topic was around but here's my two penneth.

If Jim did have an injunction put against Meat NOT to sing this song then rightly so. Jim knows how a song should sound and by whom and if he thinks Meats voice isn't upto it or he's the wrong sex then fair enough. It's probably jealousy speaking on Meats part because the song was such a huge hit.

I think Meat would crucify this song because it requires the high notes Meat can't quite reach anymore and although we all have our own opinions about Miss Dion she didn't do that bad a job but not as good as Pandora's Box though.

Also just to side with Miss Dion on another song. After hearing her rendition of Is Nothing Sacred, I think her version is far better than Meats.

I soooo agree with you on that... it still sends shivers down my spine...
Though I do enjoy the duet Meat and Patti made of it later...

You might want to remove your forward slash / before your top [quote] and then the whole quoting thing works better

IDon't get me wrong I like Meats and Patti's but I like Celine's better.

Yeah I think the original version is better than Celine's also.
I think Celine Dion can sing very well but I think she "shouted" the words in that version a bit too much.

Jim should just write new songs so that his fans cant debate too much about this!

Having said that the gems he composes are worthy of several outings I suppose.

Anyway I hope he is doing well anyway and composing away. I always think of him as some kind of possessed Rock and Roll version of Mozart!
