98. Cry To Heaven
This is the START OUT OF HELL & ARRIVE TO HEAVEN topic.
Let's Go to Rock 'n' Roll!!!!!!! Cry To Heaven (4) A bad Angels Arise cover. Cry To Heaven demo from Batman is so much better. It's able to be the second Lost Boys And Golden Girls but it's not. The lyrics is nothing, the orchestra is nothing, this epiloge is nothing. My score: 4 |

Hate to say it but have to agree with everyone here. Couldn't understand why it was on the album, I understand that on most previous albums there has been a nice gentle ballad to finish off but this is not a good choice for a finishing song. They should have cut this and finished with the future, or found a better gentle ballad that lasts more than 2 minutes.
5 out of 10, afraid to say definately the poorest song on any Meatloaf album. |

It's a nice little song that takes some getting used to. Don't care if it's not popular with lots of others ~ I like it. 7/10

The demo is better. The irish flute and that last not annoy the hell out of me.

A beautiful song in my opinion, completely apart from the rest of the album.
Both soft and sad, sadness being enhanced by the notes of Irish flute and once more by Meat's interpretation (I don't only mean singing). And Meat's voice on the last note is absolutely amazing, powerful and upsetting. He proves here that, even if the album is recorded in 2006, he still is and will always remain the best singer ever. 10/10 |

Don't understand why some people hate this so much. It is short and bittersweet, and ends on a big long 'hell!'. Job done.

Have you heard the original 'Angels Arise' demo? There's so much potential in it, that it could have become the best song on the album, but that potential was completely wasted.
Go listen to Angels Arise/Graveyard shift, you wont regret it! |

Here is the link to the Batman Musical page, one of the fans over at the Steinman board created. Among a lot of other stuff you can listen to all the demos Mr Steinman gave us on there.

Thanks a lot for the link, I didn't know this site at all.
I've listened to the demo and you're right, it's a beautiful version. But when I compare both of them, I think that Meat's version is way better. I can't find in the singer's voice the emotion that I hear in Meat's and his voice is also much more powerful. It's always difficult to express why a singer moves you more than another, but when I listen to "Cry To Heaven", I feel that particular emotion that made me love Meat's songs and see him totally different from others. Well, as it is most of the time with steinman songs, you really have to listen to them a few times before you really get into it. It's a very long and complex song, but over the time I've acknowlegded it as one of Jim's best compositions.
And I disagree, I think it is much more emotional than CTH, only that the emotion builds up over a long time, and you have to have the patience to listen to the whole song a few times before you really get it. That's my opinion anyway. |

I understand your point of view. As far as feelings are concerned, I guess that everybody has his own way to react.
If I have to be touched by one of Meat's songs, I'm usually moved at once. |
