Surely not really Meat's scene? I dont think the goth kids that will be there will appreciate the great mans music to be honest. I went last year (I come from Donington) to see Iron Maiden and the amount of kids who were disrespecting Maiden was disgraceful! I fear Meat might get similar treatment. I would be highly surprised if Meat performed. BTW who told you the organizers wanted Meat?

If this is true it WILL be a disaster. I saw Meat in 1983 at Donnington were they never stoped hurling bottles not only at him but everyone else also. Meat also played at the Reading Festivel in 1985 which was a complete disaster, he thretened to walk off several times after bottles containing urine and beer pelted the stage constantly, I believe after maybe 3 songs a bottle hit Meat square on the nose and broke his nose, he left the stage and never came back. I talked to Steve Buslowe after the show and he told us that Meat would never play a festivel in the uk again. If this does happen there may really be no more meat shows........
Meat if you read this there is no need to put yourself thru this take your break and see ya next year

I agree. He's worked so hard lately and i think he should just take his time to do Bat 3 and just take it easy.

I don't think meat has done ay festivals in the UK since Reading 1988, where he was bottled off stage, which im sure is enough for him not to want to do any more.
I know he played Knebworth in 1985 and a similar thing happened, also donnington 1983.
If Meat was to play any UK festivals I think Glastonbury would be more fitting as it has a wider variety of acts on the bill.
I can't see Meat fitting in with the likes of cradle of filth, The Distillers and Linkin Park, but then again why not eh?

I have a videoclip of either VH-1 or MTV announcing that Meat Loaf would play Glastonbury in 1997. He didn't but I often wondered how far advanced those plans were when they announced it.

It's quite possible that Meat Loaf may have been offered a slot at the festival at some point.
Many bands and artists have played there who have been around a while such as Rod Stewert, Tom Jones, Johnny Cash, Blondie, Rodger Waters, Al Green, Tony Bennett.
Also this year Paul McCartney is headlining the saturday night and James Brown is tipped to appear.

It's a festival that is not about a certain type of music and has lots of different stages so people have a good choice in what they want to see.

I think Meat would go down very well at Glastonbury, I mean if you are a music fan then surley you own a copy of Bat so most people would know the songs and Meats shows always impress.

PS - I seem to remember reading a review of Meat Loaf supporting 'Big Country' at a festival somewhere in Ireland in the early nineties - anyone know of this?

I've heard that Canterbury Festival in 2001 was very good and friendly... at least from what Hawkwind, Arthur Brown and their fans told...

but as about festivals - I think the best ones are private - like big fan's conventions...

He sung at Party in the park but i think he might aswell take a well earned rest..instead of worrying about the publics reactions at the downloads fest.

Meat played the Feile Festival in Thurles, Irleland on the 30th August, 1990. Big Country were also on the bill but it was Meat who was headlining!

A few quotes from the review which appeared in Kerrang!! magazine:

"A Festival with no bottle fights, each band given an enthusiastic response and an Irish crowd determined to have a good time at all costs. An enjoyable atmosphere to watch a show in, and equally pleasurable to play in".

"Sadly, as 'Bat Out Of Hell' flew across the field it was time to go, but as this faded into the night it sounded as spectacular as when it first appeared way back in 1978".

"Meat Loaf still delivers, and if his promise of 'Bat ... Part II' next February proves true, then he'll be back in a big way".

Well, 1991 might have been a little optimistic for 'Bat II' but the "he'll be back in a big way" proved to be something of an understatement!!!

Personally, because of the moronic element who plague the festivals in the UK I'd be much happier for Meat to give them a miss. The audiences in Ireland on the other hand seem to go for the enjoyment of the music and, although not a festival, I have wonderful memories of Meat's appearance at Marlay Park in Dublin during his "Having Fun" tour in 2002.

Moronic Element? - what do you mean by this?
I go to most festivals in the UK and apart from the yob element that was at the Leeds festival a few years ago, which was nothing more than a few posh kids let loose for the weekend, the majority of the festivals go off very peacefully with everyone enjoying themselves.

Have you ever been to a festival? - cos I simply don't understand your moronic element comment at all?

I'm with Diane on this one.

rom my own experiences, I've been hit in the face by a 2 litre plastic bottle full of something that certainly wasn't fizzy pop! Threatened with a knife, threatened with a burger (which was actually more scary than the knife), had my car broken into and many other things which I have subconciously blocked out.

Personally I think Meat's show is far better suited to his own tour rather than as part of a festival line up and it benefits from the "more intimate" setting of an indoor show I beleive. On the Summer fun tour a coupl eof years ago Leeds was outdoors and Liverpool was indoors and the Liverpool show was far far better than the Leeds one.

Yep, that's just about summed it up. Sorry Andy .... I couldn't help but laugh at the thought of 9 foot tall you being threatened with an offensive burger even though it wasn't funny for you at the time. I hope you slapped the guy with a baguette!

I prefer the indoor shows too but have to admit I really enjoyed the "Havin' Fun" tour. The Liverpool show was a fantastic closer for the UK leg of the tour.

The Marlay Park show will always have a special place in my heart too Chris. It was just one of those magical nights when everything came together. Meat and the band were on top form and were obviously enjoying themselves, soaking up the atmosphere and warmth of the 17,000 people who packed the park that night.
