Default WARNING: Facebook users

I've posted this on Facebook, but I thought i'd post here to get the word out a little faster..............

WARNING! For some reason some private messages are being posted on the posters timeline (another reason it's a pain in the arse) for everyone to see.
I've recently heard of this happening to other people, and today i've noticed my PM catch up convo with one of my friends has been shared without my knowledge or consent.
Do not send any private message through Facebook that you would not be willing to to have posted publicly.

Apparently even deleted messages can be retrieved and posted publicly, so if there is anything that you don't want posted publicly, best to delete the account and open a new one.

Joanne was talking to one of her friends about their health problems, and i've had to delete Jo's account because her friend didn't want their convo shared publicly.

I had heard something about it on the news a few days ago. it is affecting everyone. it has to do with very old messages and the Timeline format for Facebook. Unfortunately I didn't pay much attention. FB is always messing about something and being a problem

You don't have to delete the account, just hover over the section on your profile page (not your homepage) and select "hide from timeline"

I usually love Snopes too but the above is not a copy and paste job from somebody elses status.
I wrote it.

The convo in question happened when a girl, Jade, I used to work with in my Bingo days (back in 05) added me as a friend, and we had a bit of a catch up via PM to see what each other had been up to.

Next thing I know I looked at my wall and the posts were there.
I don't know if only the owner of the account can see them there (why i't be set up like that, I have no idea ) but one way or the other I was reading them on my wall.

A friend on another forum asked me the obvious question "Are you sure the convo was by PM?" and all I can say is i'm 99.99999% sure it was (there's always room for error )

I've just checked, and the convo between me and "Jadey Hollywood" (she should have gone into showbiz with that surname ) is still there on my wall.

I've sent Jade a message asking wether she remembers if we were talking in PM or on my wall.

She'll probably come back now and say it was on my wall and i'll feel like a numpty

On an unrelated note I've just discovered my Hotmail account has spammed most of my contacts in the last two days. By a curious coincidence I ordered something from Amazon two days ago. The passwords were similar.
