We've had a record breaking snowstorm. Lets make that a record annihilating snow storm! Previous record for Concord New Hampshire in October is 3" and last night we got 17". Yeah, you read that right.
To put this in perspective, we don't get more than a dusting in Oct, if anything. The news was saying that if this was November, it would be considered a "50 year storm". This is more like what we'd get in Jan or Feb. ![]() 1030110841a by tribrats, on Flickr ![]() 1030110828a by tribrats, on Flickr ![]() 1030110826a by tribrats, on Flickr ![]() 1030110813a by tribrats, on Flickr |

17 inches of snow in the U.K would cause chaos. Last year I was flying to and from Heathrow. Stuck on the gorund at Manchester for 40 minutes due to heavy snow at Heathrow, when we got to LHR it was surrounded by green fields for at least 40 miles. When I was flying back to Manchester, the closed a runway at Heathrow we were on the aeroplane for 2 hours on the ground. The flight was only 19 minutes!

Whoa! I'm sure I heard about it at the time, but had forgotten that. I do remember a cousin of mine wondering why he and his wife had built a house in South Carolina because of the locale only to have it snow, and yeah, that was last year. They moved from New Jersey (a snow region, guys) to the "safety" of South Carolina.

It was snowing here late yesterday, but then it turned into sleeting rain and didn't amount to anything. It's bright and sunny today ... a little bit chilly, but absolutely gorgeous

Don't think the snow will last but it did it's damage. Thousands without power. Hope this isn't a sign of how this winter will be. The kids could end up making up school all summer!

We get a really big one now and then, so I know how you feel. We got around 20 inches one time last February. October is really early, though.

I lived onm that area through the 90's. Snowed once in that period and the place stopped. I'm sure the grit on the roads was depper than the snow too. The day after Meat's show last December we had to dig the car out of the hotel car park to get back up north, was impressed with how well they'd cleared the roads though once we'd got on to the roads.

![]() I hope yesterday's snowfall was simply a fluke, and not a sign of a particularly cold, snowy winter. They are getting old. ![]() ![]() Sue |

I was a kid when the '93 blizzard hit the South with 18 inches and completely shut us down for the better part of a week. But since I was like 7 at the time, I thought it was the greatest thing ever.

![]() Yeah, it was tough. I remember the drifting well. ![]() Former neighbors and my then-husband and I had a thing going though in that if it snowed two flakes, the call went out for a "blizzard party". ![]() Made things more bearable. ![]() I'm trying to remember if it was the blizzard of '93 or '96 when it was impossible to get Christmas decorations down and off the lawn until something like March. ![]() Hmm...maybe the '93 storm happened in March, and '96 was right after Christmas? Anyone remember? ![]() Sue |
