In the movie version of hot patootie meat goes "whew!' at the beginning.
On the soundtrack, that sound effect is omitted..... or is it Listen closely on the section where the whew has been omitted. am I Hearing things or is something their, but really really faint. Also, Listen to the time warp. You can hear Meat sing "Put your hands on your hips" faintly under the narrator's voice (more prevalent on the karaoke version on the sing it CD). Was Meat originally gonna double as the narrator? |

It is well known and well reported that Meat Loaf was chosen to play Eddie in the movie, made a fuss about also wanting to play Dr. Scott and was shot down by the producers of the film with this idea. That is the only legitimate speculation or accurate reporting about Meat Loaf's casting in the movie. It is also well known and well reported that Meat Loaf had his musicians union card at the time the music was recorded for the movie version of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, and not only did he perform his role of Eddie, but he also contributed to nearly every song on the soundtrack as an uncredited additional background singer. Here we go, I get to open a can of worms here....but Lou Adler (who produced the RHPS soundtrack) intentionally sped up the background vocals as an homage to the Munchkins from The Wizard Of Oz. The movie was originally to have been filmed in black and white until Brad and Janet enter the ballroom of the castle to continue the Oz homage. I hope that helps.

If you listen closely, you can hear meat sing 'Lets do the time warp again' in the chorus of the song, when you hear him sing it, his voice is the one that stands out the most, and clearly over powers the rest.

I don't need to listen carefully, I have always been able to hear Meat singing the background vocals, but I thought it was something everyone knew.

There are multiple different mixes of the RHPS movie soundtrack. There are also multiple audio mixes of the movie itself - mono and stereo. As a RHPS shadowcast producer, it makes a big difference when you are acting off audio and no visual. Now, with the BluRay, there is a totally new audio mix - they even re-recorded some of the backing instrumental pieces. Fun stuff..I am telling you!
