![]() ![]() NOT DEBATE ![]() FFS, there's been enough of that ![]() Just post here whenever youtube plays a part in turning you onto a new artist or album, and if so, to what extent? What is it? How and when was your interest sparked? What was the result? (you liked the song, you bought the album, you booked concert tickets, or were you turned off by a youtube vid?) I was on facebook today when I noticed that someone had mentioned Tom Jones' new album. I'd seen the 30 second ad on TV, and thought it sounded interesting, but to be honest i'd not thought much about it since. Anyway, this reference reminded me, so I went to youtube and listened to two songs off Tom's album. The first, Burning Hell, was interesting enough and I thought it was pretty good, but the second one is fecking awesome. I've posted the link in what are you listening to right now, and the song is called Did Trouble Me. I've got it on repeat at the moment ![]() |

I posted a couple of my songs up there and to be honest it hasn't really made too much of an impact
http://www.youtube.com/user/KingMikeMusic however the likes of Mr Biebler and another singer called Hagan (he sung on Joe perry's last album) have been discovered that way so it's another medium to promote yourself. |

I am currently heavily ino stone sour and have bought all their albums including the new one over the last six month and the prime reason for buying the first one was youtube.
I had booked tickets to Download festival so checked out the line up and until then had not heard of them. Two songs in I was completly hooked!!!!!! |

But in all seriousness: My best friend messaged me over facebook, that the Numa Numa guy has been making some sick music. i looked into it and found a few videos of Gary's band. and I gotta say I really liked them. My personal favorite they did was the "Trivial Pursuit Song". |

You Tube is a great tool to promote yourself, but in my opinion Twitter and Facebook are just as effective. Some talented people post videos on You Tube to try and get a name for themselves. It's like the X-factor a lot of talent but a lot of

Well, it worked from my end. I went and found the Tom Jones videos that you were talking about and liked the songs so much that I turned around and downloaded the album from iTunes. Probably wouldn't have heard the album if you hadn't mentioned the videos being on YouTube.

![]() A combination of the three I would say. If I hadn't seen the advert I wouldn't have been interested enough to give a damn when I was reminded of the album when I saw the mention on facebook, and if it wasn't for youtube I wouldn't know where I coult listen to songs from the album. |

I saw the trailer for the new Tom Jones album on YouTube. It was a "featured video". It was definitely YouTube that sparked my interest in it.

I heard Tom Jones as a young fella when he sang the song "Sex Bomb". I adopted it straight away as the song that defines me as a person.

![]() back to business... i was sent a youtube clip of a song to listen too, by an artist i'd never heard off. listened to the song, loved it... listened to more and more.. had to listen to everything i could... became a fan, got the albums, saw the shows so in my opinion YES, youtube can be excellent, but not in isolation... its an additional tool to promote!! |

So it was the advert not Youtube that sparked your interest? My point is, Youtube on its own doesn't promo really anything, it has to be used in conjunction with another form of media to have an effect.

Agree with Pud here.
I never search Youtube on the off chance of finding something that I've not seen before. I go there looking for something specific, be it a TV clip, a song video or whatever. In the ocntext of music my visit is either prompted by the knowledge that there is a "new release" from an artist I quite like, or I've seen or heard a snippet of the song elsewhere and go to youtibe to hear it again and make the decision as to whether I'm going to open my wallet or not (and as a Yorkshireman that is never a decision that is taken lightly). |

I've probably been more inspired listening to new artists via Spotify than YouTube in the last year. The recommendation list and new releases thing that comes up on Spotify has made me find a few artists I never knew about and one particular one I'm a big fan of now. Wouldn't say YouTube has done or could do that for me in its current state.
