I know it's been ages since I've been here....

...but I've been busy. I tend to nip onto Facebook 'cos it's permanently signed in on my phone, so much easier to access than firing up the laptop. Anyway. Since I was here last, I've completed an OU course called Understanding The Autism Spectrum, and (hopefully) I think I've done alright with it. I've also got about two thirds of the way through Exploring Psychology, and once I've done the exam in June that one'll be done too...

I've had one friend decide it was a good idea to phone me at all hours of the day and night to tell me she was sitting with a pile of pills and a bottle of booze and she was going to take them all, only happy once she'd reduced me to tears and begging her not to do it. I've since managed to sort that one out, and she's no longer doing it, (and frankly, with hindsight, I don't think she'd ever have gone through with it, but in the middle of the night I don't tend to think too clearly...) I've had another friend attempt suicide by drinking a bottle of bleach, thankfully she's still alive, but since I was told by another friend and I'm not supposed to know, I have no idea how she's doing... A third friend also attempted suicide by downing a whole load of sleeping tablets and a bottle of Benylin cough mixture, thankfully he realised pretty quickly that he didn't want to end it like that, so phoned his mum sixty miles away and she arranged for an ambulance... I've seen (and spoken to) him a few times since, and he seems much better, as though he's gotten it out of his system, as he put it. I've also had a friend asking for my support as he's due in court in a couple of weeks, charged with assaulting his ten year old son - it's a complete load of codswallop, but somehow the charges haven't been dismissed yet, so he's facing complete ruin as he is an FE teacher, and even if he's found innocent, the arrest will always show up on his CRB check, so that's his job knackered. Life's been a bit shit really, if I'm honest.

Still, there has been some good news, although I'm not sure I should open myself up to the ribbing I'm sure I'll get from you lot, still, here goes nothing....

I'm going to be a grandmother. Yep, you read right, I'm going to be a granny. Well, technically a step-granny, since it's my step-daughter who's expecting, but it's bad enough 'cos I'll still be married to a grandad! She's due at the beginning of August, and I'm doing her Painless Childbirth Hypnosis, so I'd better get that one right! For goodness' sake, I'm only 35!! I'm too young to be a granny! Anyway... For anyone that's stuck with this post, thanks for reading, and I'll (hopefully) be around a bit more now! x

Claire, good to see you here. Sorry for all your friends' difficulties. Sounds like a rash of depression going on.

Congrats on being a granny-to-be. Yes, you are young, but as you said, you're a step; you weren't super-young as a first-time mother.

I've seen you over on Facebook - very addictive place, especially when you get hooked on the fantasy life games.

Welcome back - any hopes of a trip to the US sometime this year? Next year?

As for everything else, as you well know the only thing you can do in these circumstances is be around for them and hope that they can get through it.

As for Jonty and his admittance...the first step for him is to admit that he was there...since he never usually is!

I'd love to come and do a long weekend in NY, but we'll just have to wait and see what the bank manager and the husband and the uni assignments and the soon-to-be-grandchild all have to say on the matter, lol....
