Default Record Stores....A marketing consiracy???

Hi All

I popped into my local HMV this afternoon and they have an offer on the album charts buy 2 for £20.....
Now out of all the top 10 albums this week the only one not included in thier offer is CHSIB
I asked who decided what was promoted by offer and the snotty aasistat said it wasn't promotion and they were given the details from Head Office.

Well excuse my simplicity but anyone who might have been considering it could be swayed in their purchases by the offer?? Yes/No

Me thinks another phonecall to HMV customer service is in order

It is a promotion. it is set by the Head Office on the advice of the record companies who influence the purchase price of the albums to the shops. Ie. cut the profit margin to the point where the shop is unable to discount the album.

I can't stand HMV, they always have other promotions on, like Buy One Get One Free on dvds, but they bump the prics of the DVDs up to 19.99 instead of the 9.99 you can get them everywhere else. I am never influenced by 2 for £20 deals, i prefer to get cds off of the internet for £8.99.

I agree with you a big rip off and influncing purchases/sales through price promotion. Unfortunately however we feel about them the are a major record store affecting Jo Public's buying.

As all last weeks Top 10 except CHSIB were on offer does this reflect the drop in its chart position?

supermarket's often annoy me as well. I have often liked Tesco for music as their cds are often very cheap, however they make up the chart of themselves. They had CHSIB at about 8th in the chart for some reason. I don't see why thy cannot use the normal chart. I used to work at Sainsburys and did the cds quite a bit and the chart was always nothing like the normal one.
