Default I met Niles Crane from Frasier!!!!

Hello all, sorry it's been a while! University work and my computer is very slow when loading this website...

Well, I didn't literally meet Niles Crane, he is a fictional character and David Hyde Pierce, the actor who played him, is nothing like him!
Mam and I were going to New York at the beginning of April, and decided we had to see a show while we were there. I had no idea what was on, so the day before we left I looked on the Broadway website and found that DHP is starring in a musical called Curtains over there (by the same composers who did Chicago). Only 25 hours later we were in the theatre watching him, it was just unbelievable! With Meat, I knew there was a chance that he would tour the UK and that I would see him; but seeing my favourite actor on Broadway was just completely unexpected, it didn't seem real at first!
After seeing him play the rigid, physically awkward Niles for so long it was something of a surprise to learn that he's a rather good dancer and singer.
After the show all the cast came out and signed autographs and had photos taken (oh, Edward Hibbert who plays Gil Chesterton in Frasier was also in it!), they were all really nice and at ease with everyone who had waited for them.

That was on the Wednesday night, and on the Sunday, by happy coincidence we were passing the stage door 40 mins after the matinee had finished (I know, matinees on a Sunday - how wierd!), so we hung around for 5 minutes and saw him again!

It seemed so strange to see him come out wearing jeans, a baseball cap, a hoodie and a baggy sports jacket; but he was so nice and he also has the loveliest eyes I've ever seen! My photos don't do them justice!

Anyway, here's (half of - took Mam out for the internet postings) the photo I will treasure forever!:

Sorry this thread is rather long, by the way!

Sounds great

Frasier was always one of my fav TV shows, and David Hyde Pierce played Niles brilliantly.

I must say though, David hasn't exactly aged well

I mean, it's been a while since I saw him in anything, but he really does look a lot older than the relativley fresh faced Niles

Yes, I must agree with everything you say!
Some of the candid photos I took of him on the Sunday when it was still light are a lot more forgiving, the flash on my camera isn't exactly flattering. I know what you mean, though, in the first five series of Frasier he was gorgeous (you don't have to agree with that! ), I don't know what happened after that, I hope it's simply down to aging. However his eyes are still beautiful!
Nevermind, Niles has always been my favourite character, and it was a privilege to meet David Hyde Pierce.

I'm so jealous i love Niles!! I saw an interview with him a while ago and he's so different from the character I was disappointed he didn't come over here to do Spamalot cos he was in it on Broadway Loving all the Frasier repeats that are on atm too!!

I hoped he'd come to London with Spamalot, too. I suppose at least in Curtains he was the lead role, whereas Spamalot is a more ensemble cast and therefore he wouldn't be on stage as much as he was in Curtains.
I also tune into Paramount almost every day to watch Frasier (since I got back from NY I have an even bigger smile on my face whenever Niles is in a scene!), even though I have series 1-7 on DVD and can't stand the adverts on Paramount.........
Well, he finishes Curtains this June in NY, you never know, he MIGHT come to London if the show does. That role is his and his only! No one else is to play it!!!
By the way, Curtains is a musical comedy murder mystery in which he plays a Boston detective investigating the suspicious death of an abysmal and unpopular stage actress on opening night. His character is also a musical fan, so he helps out creatively with the show...kind of like Michael Crawford in DOTV but without disastrous consequences!!!

I have it on canvas! Somehow it looks better on canvas than it does on paper or on the computer screen. I've never had any photos done that way before, now I want all my photos on canvas!
