Meat has gave his thought's about the performance at meatloaf.net, he said that he could not hear the softer tone he started off with through his ear piece, but was back on track, by the word 'cryin'. He said he thought his voice sounded great after that point, which he was right.

Meat Loaf in another article:

After performing a duet from his "Bat Out of Hell: The Monster's Loose" CD with McPhee, Meat Loaf advised potential singers to stick with it. "People will love you, then hate you, then love you again," said the singer, who jokingly expressed relief he wasn't arrested for being a 58-year-old at an otherwise youthful "Idol" show.

Yes, it was a bit of a slow start as I attributed to the fact that the song had been slow down to accommodate McPhee singing style versus that of Meats.

I also though that after the slow start it was great, at least on Meat’s part; his voice was strong and clear. I did not care to much for McPhee as she did not interact much with Meat, I didn’t feel that Meat had much to feed of off in the duet with McPhee at least seeming to me to be singing off into the distance rather then to Meat. At first, I attributed that to her lack of experience but then after further reflection I felt that I was glad that she lost, if she cannot take advantage of such an excellent opportunity to really get into a song with Meat.

Over all except for Meat’s slow start I thought that he sounded great and I cannot wait for Bat III, also “The Monster is Loose”, has really blown me and my daughter away, Meat’s voice is strong and vibrant.

Not to mention that Meat looked hot.

Great job Meat, thanks for everything.

I don't understand you here - You just couldn't tell? Unfortunetly, I think it was rather obvious something was funny with the opening line or 2.

Well Kat McPhee must have made an impression, looks like Steven Spielberg wants to cast her as Dorothy in a remake of Wizard Of Oz. This might be off-topic, but I thought I would put it here. http://breathoffreshink.com/steven-s...e-in-oz-remake

Just saw your post, Unofficial, so this may seem a 'day late and a dollar short".

I have to ask you . . . . why did you find it necessary to bring up the whole "I must be a bigger fan than you" argument? This is in no way intended as a "bash" against you. Just an observation since, in the past, there have been way too many "board wars" over who is the bigger fan resulting in hurt feelings and the loss of some really great people from the boards. I think we can all agree that we're ALL fans - no one of us is any better than the other.

Personally, I've been a fan since the seventies and I can honestly say that there have been some performances where Meat has been, shall we say, a tad "off". I too thought the beginning of It's All Coming Back was a bit, I don't know . . . slow, fuzzy, weird . . . I'm not sure, but it didn't sound quite right. I chalk it up to the sound since it seemed a bit garbled and choppy to me. Meat has already stated that he could not hear the first few bars of the song through his ear piece so let's just leave it at that, shall we?

Quite interesting Jayd. I actualy think it's about time Spielberg directed a musical. Maybe Meat Loaf could be in it??

The Wiz had some cracking songs too; "Ease on down the road" is great, but the movie wasn't so good I thought. No doubt Spielberg would do a great job with this.

I agree, she was about 14 in the film, but the way 14 year old's dress and act nowadays, I suppose Kat McPhee could pass for one.

Hi everyone,

It has been a long time since I have posted, the reason been the last time I posted was deleted, because it was deemed only to cause problems. I will keep this message short, sweet and controversy free hopefully, which will aim at hopefully preventing the messages from being deleted.
Here we are once again, a great divide, people saying how fantastic meat is, then people slating his perfomance. This is a Meat fan club, and although we need to hear both good and bad reviews, we do not need to hear people viciously criticising. I have seen the perfomance, Meats opening lines were a bit flat, but so the hell what? Was it just me thinking that in some strange way, even off key Meat sounded absolutely amazing, with one of the most incredible voices ever? My god, if i could sound near as off-key as he did that night, then i would be straight to the recording studio. We do not need to fight about who is the greatest fan, we do not need to turn a blind eye to the "occasional" slip up, but we need to realise that this is all about enjoy the music of Meat. Silly arguments such as which songs are best are irrelevant. I for one can only imagine that in 6 months time, we will be thanking the stars above, that we now have a version of Its all coming back to me now, performed by who we all love, and dreamed we would here when listening to Pandoras Box original great version.

Bat 3 is coming,
Could we ever dream of anything more. Did we really ever think it would happen?
Please remember what mlukfc is all about.

I don't really like to scrutinise performances but I think all the negative (scrutunising) comments are just forcing me to have a more detailed opinion (sorry folks):

My final scrutunised view on the AI performance:

* Meat sings the second line "That my body frooze in bed if I'd listend to the wind right outside the window" a bit too fast (he said he could not hear himself sing at that point).
* Kat's solo start is excellent
* The "You and I had ever made .... baby baby baby" part is great I think, synchronised and perfectly in tune
* Meat sings the "When you touch me like this... hold me like that" bit quite well. I personally do not like Kat's low dropping answers here (you can especially hear that in the way she sings "That" in this part twice).
* Meat does the middle bit well IMO leading up to the "...Now" bit and if you listen he is singing for around 50 seconds solid with no time for a breath almost.
* The "if I forgive you all that, forgive you all this" bit .. is almost spoken by Meat. Kat complements this really well I think. "Forgive and forget" again is almost spoken by Meat but he then carries the tune really well in "...and it's all coming back to me now". Listen closely and you can hear that it is actually Kat who is almost out of tune here! She sings this part a bit too low than the melody really is.
* Kat quickly recovers with her howling: "It's all coming back to me".
* Meat fills in with "if we forgive and forget" and together they then sing "and it's all coming back to me now". At that point Meat has a little bit trouble with the word "coming".

So that's my opinion. I still think Meat did really well. Fair enough his voice has changed over the last 20 years. I certainly do not think he sung anything flat during that performance. His voice is maybe not just as powerful now as during the 87-93 touring days (at least live - on "monster" he sounds pretty much the same to me as on Bat 2/WTTN/CHSIB). But to me his voice is still very distuingishable and simply is Meat Loaf: Loud, massive range and brings emotion to the songs where it should be. I think all these press reviews of people leaving the room when he was on etc are just daft. There have always been lots of people who do not like Meat Loaf or Steinman (like Meat said himself: "you either absolutely love "Bat out of Hell" or you absolutely hate it). The fact that he was on AI (one of the biggest broadcasted shows he has ever done I think) has just sparked some people to write about him for the first time I suppose. To me personally a lot of people who do not like Meat Loaf / Jim Steinman music are badly informed and have never even given him or the music a chance. For example one of my colleagues is well into Goth rock (Evanescene, Nightwish etc) yet he refuses to even listen to "Monster", why? Cause it's Meat Loaf. Quite ironic as I've listened to lots of stuff he usually plays (in addition of trying these great goth rock bands he gave me cds from Iron Maiden, Metallica etc and I am quite open to new music so played them even if it was just out of respect for the guy. Shame he cannot show that respect back to me but instead make jokes about Meat Loaf).
I just think a lot of negative press came from the fact that it was just Meat Loaf singing with Kat rather than how and what he sang.

Nothing particular in the last couple of days. I was just re-reading this thread along with the articles you pointed out yourself and other posts on .net and js.com. I think there has been a lot scruntinsation of this performance, I just wanted to post my opinion on all the parts of that short song and why I think there has been quite a few negative online articles.

Default Deluded

Are you people that deluded that you think the AI performance was good.
The Singing was flat, and he could not carry the tune.

Since 1980 i have seen Meatloaf 24 times live, and sad to say this was an apalling performance, and i believe if it was not integral to the show in would have been axed.
The worst i've seen in 25 years, i have subseuetly read the he had "stage fright" which would explain a lot.

But don't delude yourself the performance was dire
