On his last tour Peter Gabriel offered a similar £200 package for that you didn't get a Meet and greet, but you did get the following: Early access to the venue and the chance to sit and watch the sound check, a pre-show party with food and free bar, a package of gifts, including bag, tour T shirt and two dvds.

A friend of mine who's a huge PG fan bought this, and when we compared the prices of the merchandise on sale compared to what he'd got in his package, it would have cost him around £50 more to have bought everything (including the show ticket) individually, so that worked out as a good deal, considering you got the access to see the soundcheck as well.

If the gates open at 6.00pm and the show starts at 8.00pm there's not much time to party (what does this party consist of?).

Usual fan club merchadise discounts are 10%.

Have you noticed the other assumption about this package!

Whoever drew it up and advertised the packages as on sale from 14 March doesn't seem to have realised that other tickets have been on sale for ages. REAL Fans have already got theirs so....

If you want to upgrade you sell your exisiting ticket (if you can); forfeit it and buy an upgrade; or don't upgrade.

On the merchandise front I don't entirely agree with Andy, many fans had difficulty affording a £15.00 programme last time though as a colector I appreciate this is quite the norm.

Yeah I reckon your right, what actually is the party???? I cant see it being anything that good come to think about it!

I think that like many others we will just stick with what tickets we have got now. Surely the main show is what we are wanting to see, not any pre show party etc!

I wasn't stating that I agreed about the overall cost Mike, merely comparing similar packages for value for money. Peter Gabriels deal was I thought vfm, whereas this one just doesn't compare.

Ho Ho Ho real Meat Loaf fan have I got a surprise for you.....
...that'll be $400 please!

I still can't believe this is right,
there must have been some sort of mistake made, after all they are unaware the other tickets have been on sale and I thought they'd promised to let .netters have advance purchase information, not just advance purchase of exclusive packages which most will not be available to afford.

If you think about it for $400 you could see (5) five shows.

I'd like to know if the Bat III tour will follow a similar ticket price to see Meat. We usually go to at least four dates and would do more if it is the last tour, this sort of price would preclude us meeting him then as well.

Surely they'll review this.

I still say I feel sorry for Meat, he can't have wanted this.

plus there is the fact that he may not be able to make it to to the aftershow...always that possibility, then what?

Unfortunately, I see a pattern developing here....

First, the $40 rip-off with what was supposed to be the official fan club. Now, I'm being asked to pay $300 extra for something that used to be given for free.

I have never met Meat.....now it looks like I never will. If this is how fans are going to be treated in the new, post-file-sharing world, I'm going to turn to religion - at least in church you're only asked to pay what you can afford and what you feel you need to pay.

Echoing what was said earlier, why wait until weeks after the tickets are generally available to publicise the packages. The bronze upgrade may have been worthwhile....the others are not worth commenting upon. The real fans will already have bought tickets before these 'benefits' were announced. Yet another own goal!

I am disappointed: it seems that someone in Meat's entourage is determined to make up for loss of income from the aborted world tour. Thanks, Meat. For someone who claims to value the fans, you have a funny way of showing it.

I wonder will anything be made available on a later date for the Northern Ireland, Dublin and Kerry show. Also Liverpool and i'm sure the people of Germany would want the option of special tickets.

Just to add another opinion to this new fan club and pricey ticket packages. This is not exclusive to Meat. In fact, a lot of us Alice Cooper fans also got the news about pricey ticket packages being offered for Alice concerts in 2005 through Fanfire/Signatures, see www.alicecooper.com

Notice the part about how no entire row has been reserved for the package opportunity. That means you could still get a good seat without paying a fortune. Some Alice fans asked about what would happen to the tickets that were not sold through the pricey packages. These would be put back on sale to the general public about 1 or 2 weeks before the show. So, if someone just wanted to get good tickets, if it didn't happen as soon as tickets went on sale, it could be possible to keep checking and see if these package tickets are released. I assume this would be the case with Meat shows as the same company is running this deal.

However, what if Meat, Alice, or whatever other artist has signed to this special ticket deal has to cancel a show? Do you get a refund? What if they are too tired or sick to do the Meet and Greet? Or, what if they get sick half way through the show? It says you can get a refund if the event is cancelled minus the handling fees. Also says you cannot transfer your package or re-sell in whole or part or they have the right to cancel the whole package.

As far as being up close, when Alice played the House of Blues on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood for 3 nights in a row a few years ago, I was up front for each shows and didn't pay a scalper or anyone else. All tickets are general admission and if you buy dinner you get in a half hour before the rest of the line, so if you show up early, have dinner, and get in the early line, you are up close! Only the really big fans want up close anyway. I was at Meat's last show at Universal (Cindy Lauper opened) and it was disappointing to see "corporate" people with free tickets up close leaving half way throught Meat's show! Those were seats real and energetic fans could have occupied! (not uninterested corporate people on their cell phones during a show--that is what I saw.)

Anyway, here is the bottom line. After belonging to the various incarnations of the official international Meat fan club and paying at first what was a reasonable fee for postage for newsletters, autographed photo, and some special contest opportunities, and possible meet and greets (that never happened in my area of So. California), I finally get an autograph and meet opportunity with Meat at Alice Cooper's annual golf tournament dinner/auction. See www.alicecooper.com and then check from 2004 and before to see Meat's name on celebrity list.

This event is for a non profit Christian charity to help children and teens and just the dinner/auction was $125, now it is up to $200. However, the money goes towards charity which is well worth it, and you have the opportunity to bid on some cool autographed memorabilia, have a fantastic sit down dinner, and a celebrity jam with Alice and others! You get to mingle with the celebrities that are there and if you are lucky maybe get an autograph or photo just for keeping your eyes open. They also put a celebrity at each table so you never know who you might have dinner with! A few years ago Meat went on stage and performed "Paradise" and one more song. I was jumping for joy!

I have signed up for my free 6-month extension for Meat's official fan club. However, when that expires, that is it for me. I'll just check in to this board to see what Meat is up to.

As far as Meat or Alice or anyone else's shows I want to see, I will not pay a scalper for a good seat. Even being a subscriber to Universal/ Greek theater in So. Cal. does not cost any extra other than regular ticket prices. Sure, you have to buy about 3 or 4 shows (or more for even better seat), but you have first pick at them before the general public. I'm also not going to pay $40 or more for the opportunity to get better tix. I'm already signed up to receive Email for every venue in my area, and it didn't cost me anything. I get special notices all the time for pre-sale tickets by doing this. I don't know if they have this kind of thing in other countries, I don't see why not.

Also, a lot of the fans are getting older also and as we struggle to hold on to our jobs, talk of having our retirements messed with (at least in US), and have other financial obligations, we have to carefully budget our money. The reality is a lot of these artists will not be touring within 5-10 years, and I guess some people think this is a prime opportunity to milk the last of the die hard fans for that special opportunity to meet their artist before they retire.

I don't know what percentage of money from ticket packages Meat, Alice or others get from these special tickets deals. I would be interested in finding out their thoughts on this. For those that think they will never have a chance to meet these artists through an in-store DVD signing, a chance run-in, etc., I guess they can justify the cost of the tickets. There are always local contests you can enter, maybe friends of friends, etc.

In fact, as a last note, I finally met DEVO when they did a concert as part of a Nike race post concert (it was a four US city event) at the Coliseum. I had been in contact with their webmaster before the event. Some fans pointed him out during the concert. I happened to meet with him after the show and just told him I would love a quick chance to meet the guys, so without a special pass or any money changing hands, he told the security guy to let me in, and there I was getting autographs from all the guys on my "energy dome" hat, briefly exchanged a few words, and then they had to make it to the bus. A simple gesture of a fan helping another fan :) That is what makes a meet and greet opportunity special, not paying for it.

Not so sure that they could do this on the shows that have other artsts on the bill. Status Quo fans would be none to ahppy I'm sure.

I can tell you what they do in the event of a cancellation.

40 Licks Tour, Stones @ Twickenham, we went on a hotel, ticket, transport to venue package (we did this because of my disability for easy access). When we got to the hotel we were informed they had postponed the concert for about 4 weeks, Jagger ill.

If you had no cancellation insurance (we did, most didn't) only the ticket was valid for a future date. Still cost two sets of train fares instead of one for the new date. It'll be interesting to ask what they would do if you had the party and there was a no show. Get insurance

As for this being the norm it may be but it's not so in "old Meaty world" and the PR has always been what he's done for the fans. Indeed we have all praised him for re-scheduling a concert and for the meet/greets.

The point about failure to sell the meet/greet package is an interesting one and makes my previous point, most fans want to see more concerts so a price of $400 precludes that package. Previously I felt this would be aimed at a "corporate" style market, highest bidder gets, probably not fans, the people who can afford Wimbledon but don't particulrly care about the tennis, same as Ascot, corporate soccer and cricket. Eventually this corporate stuff will change the nature of concerts, and kill the real enthusiasm.

This is very sad but I fear will become the norm. It would have been better if they had offered a ##% package discount to fans of all clubs, I can't see what benefit it is to .netters at that price.

I received the e mail from the meat site stating the changes taking place. Although my cheque was cashed in September I have never received any package and therefore have still not been able to access the site, and therefore have no priviledges. Tried to e mail them about this but e mail returned by "webmaster". Is anyone else in this situation? If so has anyone received any answers??

It's so frustrating - couldn't really afford to join but used my birthday money. Wished I'd never bothered as I don't think I'll get it back or have a membership on the new site. Oh well!

Love

Here's my two cents.....

I am very disheartened to see Meat go the way of so many "fan clubs" that require you to pay for the priviledge of meeting the artist. KISS started using this same system and I went for it ONCE.....although I could not afford the top package deal (meaning I did not BUY a M & G moment with the band) but I did hope that I would get prime seats for the show via paying the additional money. I saw the tour 6 times (only did the upgrade once though) and I got comparable, if not better, seats the five times that I did not pay the additional cash. Where I work, I see a LOT of shows coming through and a LOT of them are going with this new system. Granted, it does afford the few who actually have that sort of cash to spend an opportunity to meet the artist - but those of us who put everything they can into just getting to and seeing the show will never be able do so. It was bad enough before when I wasn't 'cool' enough or my breasts weren't big enough to get invited to a M & G. Now its escalated into my bank account is not big enough either.

As for the 'new' fan club. I found it very amusing that I was offered a free membership for SIX MONTHS......I purchased a yearly membership way back when........perhaps they forgot that NONE of us received a welcome packet.....or hey....what about that incredibly awesome patch I designed........I just have to laugh I suppose. Yes I paid for a membership and probably will continue to do so. HOWEVER.....MLUKFC will always be the first place I visit....even if I have never officially joined by sending payment....I have always felt welcome here!

Jo I agree with you wholeheartedly on this being the No 1 Meat fan club. I would just like to say that I think they all do a really excellent job here. They're all great people and deserve a bit of recognition for their hard work.

I coud 'nt agree more this fan club does a brilliant job but gets no real appreciation from the man himself. This site is alive and there is always two way communication between fans and admin, unlike .net whicj is just a dead shop window waiting to take your money. No interaction I am still waiting for four questions to be answered by them all I got was an automated reply??????? big deal
