I am fairly new at posting and interjecting any of my own thoughts here, I hope you will allow this intrusion at the eleventh hour of this thread. But I have a few things to say if I may…. And this is across the board and taking no sides at all in this very interesting thread and discussion. Much of this is close to own my heart and thoughts however, as being from California and definitely affected last summer by several cancelled venues……
David said: >> Further, he threw salt into our wounds when all of the UK dates were promptly made up, yet he cannot find time in his busy schedual to make up NOT ONE single date in America that he missed. << You know David, I had seats for three concerts last summer. Universal City which I saw, Lancaster which was to be in my local theatre and for which I had second row seats, and Anaheim. The last two concerts were cancelled and my money refunded. It was very disappointing at the time, I was so ready to see him again in concert. My reaction to the rescheduling of the UK concerts has been a bit wistful, but very happy for the UK fans… and hope that perhaps I may get another opportunity sometime to see him again in a concert somewhere without Cyndi Lauper opening. Why do I say that?? Well, I will get into it more a bit later in this post…. I do not personally feel the salt you mention here, but I can understand any big fan who lost out mourning a lost opportunity. I just think it needs to be kept in perspective perhaps… by fans on both sides of the issue. ChoccyBat said: >> Perhaps the fact that in his American shows half the audience [...] off after Cyndi Lauper, and only being half full anyway meant he really didn't see the need. Over here he is selling out massive venues, so probably feels an obligation to reschedule. << I have NO idea if this was a factor… and if it is indeed true it would be I would think understandable in weighing the balace. But I can say this… the two concerts in California that I was to go to that were cancelled did not have Cyndi Lauper as the opener… and the Lancaster venue was very small with around approximately 800 seats. David said: >> During this tour, the Cyndi meet and greets were held during the first part of Meat's set - after Cyndi left the stage. I am sorry, but I could not imagine going back and watching another band play after meeting my hero. I would say I would most likely be buzzing so much I could barely think straight at that point. I know that most of them simply went home. Also, are you aware that most of Cyndi's fans that did not get meet and greets left as well. They were basically not interested in seeing Meat Loaf at all. If Meat were to have arranged ticketing like Cyndi, maybe the crowds might have been better. << I was not aware in any way if there were meet and greets going on at Universal City, but I can say that in the long timeframe that it took between Cyndi Lauper and Meat Loaf's sets, the audience did empty out considerably… and they continued to leave throughout Meat Loaf’s performance. It was a looonng night and it ended well after midnight. It did seem to me that many were perhaps there for Cyndi Lauper, and that the combination did not necessarily work in Meat Loaf's favor. Meat Loaf said: >> Igot tell you are all wrong , calm down didn;t know therre waas a makeup date, the told you there wrong!Q allways taking a break after australia. If it makes sense we will play more dates, we might be recording Bat3 , one more thing I read Cyndi had meet and greets for 200 and 300 people not at my show she had done, we 300 people bacstage at LA 225 were mine other than that no meet and greets, That's crazy. If you think I want promote bat 3 like a bat out of hell then your are insaine What brought this angry on me, what have I dione to you!! I'm just a working man trying to make some people happy. But I see it is impossible. all that happen record co wanted it in Sept I wanted march so I could sent it up. the single was top 5 in a lot of cities and there were big stations we did for Bat 3. Alot goes on that doesn't make sense to you but it really does << You know, I think that is it so amazing and a bit daunting that an artist of this stature would feel that he needs to justify himself and post on a fan webboard in his defense like this. It is more on the unique side of fandom that he posts here at all, and I can only imagine what it costs him as an individual. I am not completely certain what it does to the dynamics of this community… But I love his passion, his drive to be understood, his honesty and forthrightness… Caryl said: >> But I do hope Meat can complete the later repeat legs of this tour despite recording Bat3, even if dates are delayed .. the reviews of his current shows demonstrate that he is in as good form as he has ever been, and it would be so good for his many loyal fans who adore him to see this celebration of an enduring world class talent, and the "Last World Tour" would be the huge triumph it should be < For me I look at this from a bit different slant I suppose. Bat III is part of the legacy that he will leave behind long after the cheers from the fans at the nightly concerts have subsided and waned. I think the concerts are absolutely wonderful and a gift to the fans… But the gift to the future will be the recordings, and it is what he will ultimately leave behind. He is going to need everyone’s support for the next important leg in his journey… Just as he has needed patience and understanding throughout the trials he has faced in this past year while on tour. I suppose I am stuck on looking past the near to the far… So forgive me. Bat III calls, and it was so good to read his words here this evening. Vickip said: >> What doesn't make sense to me is what the heck were you doing on the internet posting this message at 6:00 in the morning Seriously though, please remember that you make your TRUE fans very happy, and we will always be there to support you, no matter what And there are those of us who are willing to sit here patiently waiting for Bat III and to see if you can hopefully schedule more shows after you come back from Australia. << What indeed was he doing posting at such an hour??? But Vicki, I just had a thought here… What makes a true fan? You see… In my mind, anyone who is taking the time to sign up here for this message board, post, and become involved in any of the discussions IS a true fan… or, they would have never found their way here in the first place. The difference’s between some may be in the way they approach their fanhood, and the focus of what moves them. People are always going to differ in how they see things and appreciate the arts… and truly, that is just a part of life and what makes us all so diversified. The key is additionally in how we treat each other in our different views, tastes, approach, and styles… and if we can work through the times we disagree and strive for harmony, or destroy each other while in conflict. I think this is an amazing community… and it reflects the passion and heart of the man it exists because of. In the end, it is not just the man, but it is the music… and the message. And anything we post here is going to be our own truths as the individuals we are… and not "the" truth. Just a few thoughts on a quiet Monday night…. Best to all, Di ….. still a Rookie but working on it… |

I'm sure Bat3 will be excellent, given the talent of the two main people involved, although right now I'm still swept away by CHSIB. Like Meat I consider it to be his best and most exciting album since BOOH, and a fitting and worthy pinnacle which is how he saw it at the time, and what he thought then would be the future, and the crowning glory of his legacy. I am so thrilled for Meat that this tour, which must be so very special to him, after a difficult start is now becoming a triumph and a celebration. I feel privileged, honoured and blessed to have been part of the audience for that, and that I will be again in January. I am so very pleased for those in the Antipodes who will finally see him in concert .. people like Shane who has longed for this opportunity and will at last now realise it :) I was just expressing the hope that fans in the USA (including some very dear friends) who missed out for one reason or another this year, would get the chance next year to get the gift of Meat live, as was planned, to hold close and treasure for the rest of their lives. I have been blessed, and I hope they are too, just like the sweet man who sat next to us last Saturday and sat with tears in his eyes at the concert's conclusion, "That was bloody amazing! He's bloody amazing!! I'm so glad I got to see that. I'll never forget it, never!!!" It doesn't diminish any feelings or hopes I have for Bat3 Di :) It will call .. but in its time. Just now I hope that as many as possible may share in the wonder of this current tour, and that Meat and they too will have an enduring memory of a triumphant celebration that stays Forever Young. |

Yes, we're all human and have disappointments and frustration when something we have eagerly awaited does not come to pass. Sometimes, we rant and sometimes we take it in stride. I'll be the first to admit that the cancellation of the September 12th show at the last minute ticked me off. Of course, I had some major issues going on in my life at the time and had looked forward to this event as an escape for a time. And yes, I have experienced twinges of jealousy that the UK shows were rescheduled so quickly. BUT, I understand that some things are out of my and Meat's control so I'll waut and see what happens. So, until I can enjoy a live performance again, I'll take care of what I must and look forward to next year (or the year after that if necessary). With much affection to all - Debbi V |

I hope that you did not misunderstand my thoughts in this portion of my rather epic post of last evening.... For my own part, the only observation and/or worry I have is that the very busy schedule he is experiencing will not adversely affect him in any way, and that he remains healthy, can fulfill his concert commitments without stress and worry, and that his voice will remain strong for all his future plans. There is no doubt that you are a long time, passionate and very loyal fan, and additionally a very eloquent one. It is very easy to read your heart in the words you write, and the care, concern, and love you put into being a fan. :) In reading many of the threads here as I have been familiarizing myself with the various forums, I do have a thought to add here if I may, and this is in general and not directed at anyone in particular.... To the same extent that we extend ourselves to be heard and understood in our thoughts, opinions, feelings and beliefs.... so to the same degree should we also allow others to do the same with whatever they may hold to be of value to them. No one is exactly right, no one is exactly wrong. Just differing minds... and it is how we exchange those ideas that show the true quality of the people we are. Well.... that was a bit deep before morning coffee.... I love CHSIB and listen to it often. I think it is a fantastic CD and there are many songs on it I have grown to love. I think Meat Loaf is a very special artist, and a large part of it is the passion and feeling he puts into the work he produces, in whatever medium he is presently involved in. :) And with those closing thoughts.... off for that steaming cup of coffee and the day, I hope you have a great one Caryl. :) Di |

I've no idea David. I've only got Utopia's albums, I've nothing of Todd's solo work. Ask Pebbles.

The problem (or advantage depending on your viewpoint) with Todd Rundgren is that his albums and tours vary so much. For example he's toured with no instruments and just 15(?) vocalists in 1985, in 1994 (I think) he toured with mainly computer generated music, in 1997 they played almost all the set as in a Tikki lounge with bosa nova style music and in 2000 it was a Power Trio Tour with pure rock music.
Also with Todd (unlike Meat Loaf) there are very few songs that he HAS to play on each tour so it leaves the whole set very open. As Liars isn't released until next week or February (depending on what you read) we really don't know yet what the tour format will be. SueW |

David, my favourite Utopia album is Oblivion. RA is pretty weird, they all wear 'dresses' on the front cover, but after a few listens it's actually quiet good. Deface The Music is a Beatles rip off, which isn't the best. Adventures In Utopia is good. Oops Wrong Planet is not bad. You should get Anthology 1974-1985, that has songs from various Utopia albums on it, and it will give you an idea what they were like, although some great songs were left of it.
