Correct. Although my version of Heaven Can Wait was pretty similar to the original, regarding key/tempo etc, but it was me playing the piano and singing, no backing track. If I get the time, I'll do something similar again, a stripped down piano version of a song. Maybe Left In The Dark? Been wanting to have a stab at that one for a while now.

You know what, folks...I think all of us will love this kind of thing...we have quite a few tributes or people aspiring to be tributes or just very very good singers...I heard enough good singing from people here to make an independent band or two...

The valid point was made above though...is this encroaching on somebody's copyright and/or somebody's intellectual property? Both Meat and Jim are Americans...we don't use toilet paper here until we make sure it's copyrighted...and I am not sure how those laws work...oh I sort of know how they work here...but I am not sure our laws stretch across the ocean...

Before we go all gung ho...is anybody an expert here?

Have the songs been released? Yes? Then they are free to cover. Since this is not a commercial endeavor, we won't have to pay licensing fees to any publishers. You're not cutting off income to anyone's pocket. (Incidentally, that's why Meat did mostly covers of Jim's songs on Bat 3, except for "Pig" and "Heaven," which he pulled from demos and got Jim's permission to use in the lawsuit settlement. He would have to have Jim's permission to do any new or unreleased material with another producer, and Jim isn't likely to give it.)

Thanks mszee! I never thought I would come off well in comparison to the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra!

Thanks for everyone's feedback - really glad you're enjoying the tracks (or at least that's what you're telling me ).

I have now uploaded new versions of both tracks, with much better volume levelling and minor vocal fixes. Mszee, I'm afraid I haven't got rid of the orchestra yet

Enjoy!

One of my goals in starting all this up was to record some of the less covered, and in particular, non-Jim tracks. Not because I don't like Jim stuff, I love it, but there is great non-Jim stuff that is a bit under-rated and under-played.

My version of Modern Girl is WIP - I haven't quite finished yet, need to do the big finish. The rest is done though. Feel free to download it from www.paniclord.talktalk.net and post any feedback!
