Crap quality youtubes seem to really effect how Meat's show sounds. I can vouch for that, having been to many live shows....The sheer power out of that man's chest and vocals is not represented in barely any youtubes, hell its hard to capture it even on his CDs. I think its because he is more of a powerhouse performer singer than a backstreet boys/LMFAO autotuned performer. So its harder to capture his sound the way it actually sounds live. I respect him for sticking to his guns after seeing him live this summer and last winter. Best thing to do is a quick http://keepvid.com download so you can still hear it before it gets taken down. This way everybody wins...hardcore fans and Meat versus the internet of haters.

Red Pony Tours regularly goes through the vids reporting them for copyright infringements, mainly the concert bootleg vids but sometimes other types as well.

Well known that Meat doesn't like the quality of them.

(And it's been discussed to death on this forum so please lets not have another thread with the same arguments)

Normally I don't think artists mind but he definitely has flagged tribute band vids and I got a few strikes as a result. Even one from some random company (Stage 3 Music). No clue why as I'm pretty sure they don't have anything to do with the actual copyright/publishing of Meat Loaf/Jim Steinman songs. I could be wrong though.

Actually recently I can no longer see those strikes on my YT account so maybe they go away after a while or if the user account who flags it changes or disappears. Weird. I definitely don't bother posting any videos relating to Meat's music anymore this includes me playing piano or whatever. It's fine with me if the artist doesn't want it as sad as I think that may be / outlook for future etc.

A lot of fans like watching bootleg videos and for those who haven't been able to go to shows this summer, it is the closest they can get to seeing what it was like. On the other hand, people don't have the right to record concerts and share them on the internet. A lot of bootlegs aren't recorded in great quality, don't do the performances justice and can be damaging to an artist's reputation.

Do we have any proof for this statement?

No but I've seen comments which suggest that people have come to the conclusion that an artist doesn't sound great live based on bootlegs.

I thought Monstro's post said it all. It's Meat's right, choice, and decision. It's been discussed to death.

But do we have any proof that it doesn't damage an artist's reputation?

Whether a reputation is damaged dut to a clip is down to several factors.

The quality of the performance.

The quality of the camera used to film it.

The musical taste of the viewer.

The expectations of the viewer.

And as the end result of whether the reputation is damaged depends on the personal opinion of the viewer, there can be no "proof" either way.

There have been some vids that have been posted here that have had people saying they enjoyed them, so that stands in favour of the point of view that a reputation can't be hurt by sub-standard clips. Some disagree

But I don't think there are any unanswered questions in this thread, so i'm inclined towards locking it (before the usual argument starts again) if nobody has anything new to add?
