Default One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest / Fight Club - missed chances?

I'm just listening to Meat talking about acting. He mentions that he was supposed to be in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and that he would have had more scenes in Fight Club if a tour hadn't kept him from filming. He suspects that he might have had chances to win an Oscar. From what he says I conclude that he probably refers to Brad Dourif's role in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. Does anybody know more about that?

I'm of the belief now more than ever, especially after seeing Roadie recently, that acting should be the way for Sir Loaf.

As i've mentioned before a strong role in a tv drama would be great for him. He doesn't have anything left to prove musically.

Except that he clearly wants to continue musically. My opinion is that he tours so much to get himself in shape vocally for the next album. Of course thats not the only reason.

My opinion is that Meat tours because he enjoys it. Being up on stage performing is like a drug, and he wants more. If anything touring will negatively affect his voice and he will need to rest before the next album.

Touring has periodically wrecked Meat's voice throughout his career, so it must be some drug to keep on doing it !

As I have said before, not really interested in Meat Loaf the actor. His music is always where he amazes me. Bring on the rock and roll!!!

Maybe part of it is because I didn't see Meat in concert for the first time until 2001 But I became a fan of him as an actor first (Crazy In Alabama, Focus, etc) and then became a fan of his music and live concerts

Now I really enjoy both and truly enjoy seeing Meat healthy, happy and having fun in whatever he decides to do

Before this descends into a discussion on whether Meat Loaf is better as an actor or as a singer, I'd like to come back to my original question regarding details on the Jack Nicholson movie and the additional scene(s) in Fight Club. I'm especially interested in the former, since if I understood Meat correctly, the other actor got the role "because of a long, complicated, stupid story". Background info on his possible involvement in the movie would be cool.

What impact could it have had on his career? Do you think he indeed would have been nominated for an Oscar? Would we have gotten Bat Out Of Hell?

Is it being suggested that Meat would have played Billy Bibbit? Cuz if that's the case, I could see it working brilliantly. Billy probably has one of the most emotional final scenes and (SPOILER) death scenes in movie history. Meat would have CRUSHED that role. Shame he didn't take it, even though wazzisname did a great job in the final product.

As for an impact on his career, he definitely would have been pressured to act after a role like that, so Bat may have been pushed aside.

Probably. Meat neither mentioned the character's nor the actor's name but he said that the actor who got the role was nominated for an Oscar. The only male member of the cast I remember being nominated (aside from Nicholson) is Brad Dourif who played Billy Bibbit.
