A couple of my friends sing in a local band and they do a really good duet of the song "Making Love Out Of Nothing At All". When I was listening to them last night, it got me to thinking, how great would Meat and Patti sound singing this song as a duet. What does everyone think? Would this make a good duet for them?

just practically id say that neither of them would be able to sing the high...."never gonna tell you everything i gotta tell you..." part, Id love to be proven wrong though
MLOONAA as well as Dirty Job have always been the two steintracks i would have loved to see done by the loaf. |

Although "Making Love" was obviously written for Meat and always meant to be a duet, both the Air Supply as the Bonnie Tyler versions are great enough as they are.
I see no need for Meat to cover it, especially not as a duet. |

dont care what everybody says, never liked Bonnie's version (same with Karine Hannah's which was pretty much the same), her voice doesnt suit and song and the production always sounds cheap to me (espcially the intro)

Hehe...wonder if the sharp-eyed will spot the reference in the first sentence. That said, I think Meat could do a great job with this song as a solo if they transposed it a bit. He should cover some of the songs that he says Jim wrote for him, like "Making Love" and "Total Eclipse". After all, if his "All Coming Back" is the definitive version, so will these be as well, right?

i'd love to know how old you are, who said his is the definaitive version?? because some people said in another thread that they didnt like pandora's version?? He says,Jim says, it's getting boring now, stop trying to stir shite and actually make an intelligent, less spiteful point, reading ALL your posts really makes me wonder what the hell youre doing on a ML fanclub, most of us criticise things he does from time to time but you seem on a bloody mission, even Pud can give the guy his due when it's called for

Personally i dont think it's something he should cover, just cant see how they would make it work. |

As a duet? I'm not so sure. Jim produced the song twice and neither time was it a duet. Just like Jim produced IACBTMN twice and neither time was that as a duet either nor sung by a male. And since it's Jims song, then he should know. Pud |

And i know you never said it Pud but considering the other posts regarding Meat says/Jim says, i'm inclined not to believe everything i read or hear from either of them and wish the fans wouldnt get involved in trying to get one up on each other, it's stupid, songs got released by whoever and everyone will have a faveourite different version to someone else where there are a couple. Personally i love this song, i really like both versions as they are completely different to each other but not really sure what Meat could do with it that would make me like it as much/more, i would rather see some new stuff from him instead of classic already tried by someone else Steinman stuff. If that means he doesnt do any Steinman stuff then so be it. |

Jim says the opposite to Meat. "Total Eclipse Of The Heart" was written as a centerpiece for Bonnie Tyler (even though the verses of the song, musically, existed as early as 1969). I'm not sure about "Making Love (Out Of Nothing At All)".

i love the song and i love bonnies version best, not saying meat shouldnt do it but i would rather hear some new stuff from him instead, which as we know now is more than likely the case

Patti could definately sing that part, hearing her in her own shows last yr definately confirmed that for me, you really dont hear everything patti can do when she sings with meat imo. As for Meat i honestly couldnt comment, some songs on bat3 make me think yes but then other times i think no so |

lol where did that come from? Cant even remember posting it...
you might be right about Patti, cant comment on that as I havent seen her solo yet. however, I thought Bonnie's version sucked, her voice just didnt suit the song. |

Ummm...your avatar is a picture of the album cover of a show that I have seen live and in person. I believe I heard parts of Making Love in that show. There were fragments of Making Love around during whenever Confidence Man was written.

I thought that at first, and I was going to mention it, but Jim has a habit of recycling riffs more than actual tunes. I've heard a lot of people say "Holding Out For A Hero" is a recycle of "Stark Raving Love" or "Seize The Night" is "Back Into Hell" but it's just the riffs. In the case of "Edging Into Darkness" in "The Confidence Man", he just took a small riff and expanded into a massive song. It didn't exist with the bridge or chorus or anything like that until Air Supply or whoever it was intended for. As far as I know...

I'd rather say that half of the "a small circle of friends" soundtrack have been recycled for MLOONAA.

How bizarre i was listening to these tracks by Bonnie today, i love them, i see her in a few weeks in concert with Lorraine.
I would love to hear Meat do them, either with patti or on his own, i was thinking that as they played in my car at full volume, the way i listen to all my cds! |
