She sings RnB/pop - she did the theme tune to Bridget Jones Diary 2.

Paul Crook has updated his website to say that he won't now be performing at the Royal variety Show. http://billymarx.com/pcrook4/index.p...id=37&Itemid=2 is the link. He says that Meat Loaf is not happy about it (which was very obvious from Meat Loaf's post here yesterday!).

Yea the surprise guest wasn't kept to well. Shame i was dreaming of Cher preforming this one last time.
In saying that Jamelia has an excellent voice and it should be good viewing.
At least BAAB will get some good publicity as the viewing figure's are normally really good for these show's.

I'm more upset than angry - I would absolutely love to hear a full live version of Blind as a Bat. Already means a lot to me, that one.

I guess it depends on what they do .. comedians are normally live .. so are sketches with cameo performances from Soap stars, magicians, and acrobats:) .. and I've never seen a fire-eater lyp-synching .. lol

Musically, usually they have one or two acts which feature a group of artists from a current musical, who generally sing live using the orchestra at the RVS .. the remaining singers I think vary depending on whether they need their own backing band or not .. just as Meat is singing one song live but having to lipsynch the one which he knows demands his own band rather than the orchestra provided.

As I've only seen the RVS on TV, and there are so many acts following each other it's frankly hard to tell sometimes. I'm pretty sure the Beatles sang live, but that was many years ago, and of course each of them was considered a star in their own right. Shirley Bassey sang live .. but her songs are different and can be sung with the orchestra provided relatively easily .. just as Meat says Dead Ringer is one that doesn't need the NE to do it justice. Larry Hagman sang live .. know that because he dried completely and his mother had to come on and help him out!!

I can understand Meat's frustration and disappointment, but there are so many acts having to be managed through a very tight show (plus they all have to share dressing rooms). Traditionally most performers only had one very short segment .. 4 minutes or so (except for the main compere and the headliner) and if you blinked you'd miss them! Recently they've tended to give more time .. and at least we'll get to see Meat perform two songs :)

And he still carries the honour of being one of the few artists to perform live at the Prince's Party in the Park a few years back .. and then the sound equipment let him down.

Prince Charles clearly likes Meat .. he was I think the only artist invited to sit with the Prince in the audience at the Party in the Park. I'm sure the Prince will love seeing him in the RVS even if he only sings Dead Ringer live :) .. as will I of course :)

Yeah very upset now to be honest.

Does anyone know if its just Paul thats not playing?
Is Randy playing too?
Hope so, that would make my day if Randy was. but would be even better if Paul was. But not to worry. Still got chance to see him next year.

I'm pretty sure there will be no Randy or John. I guess for the same reasons as no Paul.

Meat has already told us that none of the band are allowed to play at the RVP. Look here. I'm sure the band members are just as upset about it as Meat and ourselves but it was very good of Meat to take the trouble to let us know.

I've just got back from RVP and it was an entertaining evening but very long! The show lasted over 3 and a half hours.

Meat Loaf was on in the first half (although they could change the order for when it's televised next week). I thought his voice sounded very strong during DeadRinger (although I think Jamelia missed a couple of lines!).

There was a nice touch when Meat Loaf went towards the back of the stage to sing DeadRinger, as Kasim gave him a reassuring pat on the back as if to say that he was performing well!

There's a strict budget with RVP and after they get the artists they want or need they start trimming away, That's why you end up with Ken Dodd and not somebody who's any good. That's probably why the band wasn't allowed to play, plus they need to take down one set or performance and quickly put up another one.

Meat Loaf's part of the show was set in a bar and the introduction was that it was a bar that had seen better days so a band would not really have fit into that sort of scene. They had dancers during DeadRinger, plus there was the problem of not being able to play live.

I think all artists donate their time for free for this show as it is an event to raise money for the Artists Benevolent Fund.
