OK this poll is null and void in my opinion as I've never heard of these;

Behind The Music
Ultimate Albums &
Biography

Anyone care to enlighten me on these ?!

Behind the Music was a VH1 series, and Meat's (made in late 90s) featured footage from his singing career interviews with him, Jim, Leslie, Pearl, Amanda, Todd Rundgren, Karla DeVito and Sam Ellis (tour manager).

Ultimate Albums, was also a VH1 series, I think early in 2000s, which focused on one specific album that an artist had released that made a great impact on their career, in Meat's case BOOH, again with interviews and clips from the album.

Not sure what "biography" refers to unless it's the one made a couple of years ago? Jules and Terry and I went into the studio in New York to record questions they would ask Meat at the end of the film, but our questoons didn't survive the final edit :)

Caryl .. wondering if misery really does love company, does company love misery? .. lol

It's probably Biography Channel's "Monsters of Rock" from last year.

I believe it's hard to rate documentaries, especially since the ones mentioned here focus on different issues. Some are concerned with Meat Loaf in general, some with the album Bat Out Of Hell in particular, one with the 2007 tour. I think they are all interesting.

Could well be .. I was thinking of A&E's Private Sessions, which aired summer before last.

I wouldn't like to try to "rate" documentaries either .. I find them all interesting, and what makes them special is how far they capture Meat and his thinking/values etc ..

The one I probably enjoy best is the one he had most input into, In Search of Paradise, which captured so much of the man behind the character imo :)

That one is definitely more personal than the others. It's quite surprising and impressive how much it reveals. There are not many artists who would release a documentary like that.

Indeed .. which I guess is why it says more to me about Meat than the others :) .. and probably gives insight into the man's view about some of the more "managed" and "produced" documentaries about him and others ..

i dont really care about someones views as long as I like the music. After all I'm a fan of the music first. Meat could be a Nazi and that wouldnt affect my views on the music.

Which serves to underline how very, very different we are.

A "Meatumentary", the subject of this thread, would always be for me first and foremost about Meat .. but then I'm a fan of Meat first .. and the music in terms of his delivery.

I like the classic album one because of the input Steinman had put into it, it wasn't just drudging up the same old quotes from the Bat Out Of Hell II: Picture Show

Personal fav bit is when Steinman is playing two out of three ain't bad on the piano.

In Search of Paradise was pretty good, but then i think you (or maybe just I) come away from it thinking, why is he still doing this if it tortures him so much.

I think that's why he's still doing it :) That inner drive to achieve some vision he has of his perfect show is what tortures him yet at the same time spurs him on to keep trying .. and what makes him the exceptional performer he always has been and still is. Plus I suspect he wanted us to see that there's a lot more to it for him than just giving his considerable all when he sets foot on stage, and just how seriously he takes it and puts effort into it.

I haven't heard of either Behind The Music or Ultimate Albums, are they available on DVD or video or anything. I'd like to see them. My favourite is In Search Of Paradise as well, it gave good insight to Meat and what he goes through to put on a good show for us. I showed it to my niece who stayed with me for Christmas, she is a singer and teaches singing, and she said it was interesting and she could relate to the preparations Meat goes through before each show.

I have yet to see the Biography or Behind The Music and have been wanting to badly.
BTM was on YT but I didn't have the time to watch it at that moment and the poster was asked to remove all 4 parts so I missed it
I hope to catch it and the Biography soon maybe on YT in the near future or on TV.
I do love ISOP though, that was an amazing documentary and one of the best on an artist in my opinion :)
