I'm not going to sign it, not because I'm for child abuse because I'm not, I have 2 kids of my own and another one on the way, but for the simple reason petitions p!ss me off and they don't do squat.

I feel truly sorry for you Pud, that you feel that way.

I hope a million people around the world don't feel the same apathy, and are prepared to show their abhorrence of online child abuse in this way.

I generally take the view also that petitions don't do much but as a victim myself ( losing 6 years of my childhood ) I hope something can be done by someone and if lighting a seemingly insignificant candle gives the slightest chance of that happening then i'm for it.
candle lit!

Pud
That might be true Pud but it costs nothing and only takes a few seconds of your time. And if by some chance it does help then it's time well spent, imo.

Mine is lit!

This strikes too close to home for me to ignore.

Pud, I understand how you feel. But just doing something like this - it is reaching out, and trying to do something, even this small.

The Blue Ribbon organisation can be found on:
http://www.preventchildabuse-ri.org/...nworkplace.asp

Childline in the UK on:
http://www.childline.org.uk/

Either organisation would welcome donations to help their important work in preventing child abuse and supporting those who have suffered abuse, or are suffering it now .. or perhaps give some of your time on a regular basis to help one of these organisations .. this would be giving more tangible and concrete support than lighting a candle, however worthy that act is.

You're welcome :) Don't get me wrong; I'll happily light candles and lit one on this occasion. But ultimately it's actions that effect change and improvements, and if we can't do anything directly ourselves, any donation, however small, helps those who do work tirelessly to rescue and help victims of abuse, and protect children who without help will become victims.

If people actually bothered their ass to read that site properly, it's about trying to stop child pornography specifically and not the general umbrella of 'child abuse',which covers many areas and something some people here feel they are linked to.

The links CarylB gave are the ones I'm interested in. Actual organisations that actually do something. Not online sites where you light a cyberspace candle FFS

And this is just my opinion, but I personally don't think a Meat Loaf website should be linked in anyway to child pornography, and I hope mlukfc doesn't become a site where moral crusade threads are started every week.

Child pornography does come under the umbrella of child abuse! And yes, there are people on this website (and, I'm afraid many many others) who have been affected by a form of child abuse, so yes, they will feel empathy toward this cause. Child abuse in any form is abhorrent.

If you bother to read the thread properly, this Meat Loaf website is not linking itself to child pornography. This thread is raising awareness that it actually happens - it is NOT condoning child pornography. This thread has also provided very useful links, that may one day be of use.

I do find your remarks on this thread offensive Pud. It is of course up to you if you wish to belittle and poo poo the posters that wish to show their support of the linked website. I doubt very much that mlukfc will become a weekly moral crusade ground.

Default Bottom Line.

OK, here's how it is.

Some people may believe that sites like these "light a million candles" are a waste of time, and they might well have a point.

However, it can do no harm to add your sig to a petition like this, and it just might (even though the odds are against it ) do some good.

I can't see a problem with people posting to charitable sites they feel a certain empathy with.

mlukfc is not affiliating itself to this site, but we have no problem in a thread being started here in off topic.

Can we have this thread back on topic, where people can post their suport of this cause.

And, incidently, for what it's worth, candle lit
